Kirby!

So I just started in on Kirby: Epic Yarn (thank you $20 sale at Target) and while it's not the classic Kirby I was expecting, I'm really liking the game. It's not the classic Kirby but it's fun and new.

So what are your favorite Kirby games? Any Kirby memories to share?

My favorite Kirby game was Kirby's Adventure for the NES. It was one of the very few NES games I am the only owner of (Kay-Bee had it on clearance when the Nintendo 64 and PlayStation were out and in vogue.) I list it in my top five NES games of all time and it's a shame that programmers weren't able to pull that kind of power on more NES games.

I was never a fan of the Gameboy (Color) games, but I loved the NES and GBA ones. Epic Yarn had me _really_ skeptical after it was first announced, but the game is so much fan in MP, that I cannot bring myself NOT to like it.

I think the most brilliant thing was when I played a GBA Kirby (can't remember which one), which was also my first Kirby game ever. I only knew of Kirby from TV commercials back then, so when I got the the final boss which was overly dark and dramatic, I was at a loss. Never expected something like that.

I bought the first Kirby game but not until after it had been out for a while. I remember being very pissed that Kirby couldn't absorb enemies powers in the first game. Dreamland 2 is probably my personal favorite. I never bought Kirby's Adventure because it came out after the SNES was out and I didn't want to pay $50 for an NES game anymore. I did eventually play it later and it was greatness and the GBA remake of it is also greatness. I haven't played Epic Yarn though. I lost track of Kirby in the N64 days. Also, Kirby was white on the box of Dreamland. He didn't become pink until Kirby's Adventure.

My first, and perhaps my favorite, is Dreamland 2. I also really enjoyed Crystal Shards, especially the true boss/ending.

I've played some of the GBA and DS games, though the last Kirby I've owned is Super Star Ultra. I was interested in Epic Yarn, but I've brushed it aside in favor of other games I had higher interest in. I know somewhere on TAY before someone posted the new Kirby game teaser, but...

Supposedly it's a "Dreamland" title, so it should definitely be going back to Kirby's roots.

I started with the Dreamland games. They were great. Its sad to see Kirby not get the same treatment as Mario, Zelda, and Metroid. Besides Epic Yarn, it had been a LONG time since we had a real proper Kirby game. That shouldnt be.

The portable games were pretty good (the ones I played anyway) but I was disappointed that the first GBA one was just Kirby's Adventure.

Supposedly Starfy is good if you like Kirby games but I've never played any of those.

That was me. :P Supposedly this is the game started on the Gamecube and then ported to the Wii. I'll definitely buy the new Kirby game. Hopefully it doesn't have gimmicky shake controls and will let you use the Classic Controller. Yarn would be a lot more comfortable to play if I could use the CC.

Epic Yarn is great and all (and I'm glad I only paid $20 for it) but I may have to preorder this one. :D

Supposedly it's the canned Gamecube game which I guess can be a good thing or a bad thing. It looks hella fun, though especially the 4-player NSMBWii style multiplayer. Edited by Battra92

I liked Epic Yarn, but THIS is the Kirby I've been wanting since the gamecube days. Hallelujah. 4-player co-op is great too. I wonder if it's onli---PFFFFHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Okay, I couldn't even finish that sentence.

The game still looks great, though, and I'm very pleased it's finally coming.

Heck yeah I'll put money on that Kirby. Kinda wish they gave it a better name, or at least a subtitle like Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards.

I really don't know why Nintendo is getting really crappy with the names. I guess they always have been (SNES sequels were all Super this or that and N64 games were all 64 this or that. )

On a side note, I'm 33% of the way through Epic Yarn (I'm going back and replaying levels to get all items) so I'm pretty happy with the game so far. My only complaint is it's a little on the easy side but then the whole thing has the feel of a "kids' game."

Actually, I think Kirby is one of the more exposed Nintendo mascots. The DS has two original games (canvas curse and mass attack just released in Japan) as well as a remake. The GBA had an original game (the amazing mirror) as well as a remake. The Gamecube had a spinoff that reviewed poorly but sold well regardless (air ride). The Wii has one original game (epic yarn) and another on the way.

Now this isn't a really HEAVY density of software, but it's right up there with Zelda and Donkey Kong as far as Nintendo mascots. Kirby sure gets more face time than Starfox, Captain Falcon, or Samus.

By the way, it's past time that we accepted that Metroid isn't Nintendo's third big franchise. In terms of software density and sales both Donkey Kong and Kirby are more deserving of that distinction.

My first Kirby game was Crystal Shards, loved it right away. Somewhat unsatisfied with it's normal ending, I began collecting all the crystal shards, as I kid I didn't even know what I was doing or even why, but when I had 'em all and replayed "Miracle Matter" I almost shat my pants. Also as a kid, I thought Miracle Matter was cool, but VERY creepy. Then I met 0^2 :|

Anywho! Favorite power combos were probably The electric Rock Yo-Yo (Stone+Electricity) and The Rock Critters (Stone+Cut)

I haven't tried Epic Yarn and I honestly don't really feel a need to, it looks fun don't get me wrong.

I just watched the Kirby Wii trailer and I am no EXCITED. Also watched the trailer for Mass Attack, the music reminded me of Yoshi's Story, but gosh darn it it looks tons of fun.
