I'd say it's minaly going to get use through the fact they have Sims. But I know a lot of people are jonesing for BF3 and won't be happy that they can't pick it up through Steam. I'm all for services competing with Steam, but a publisher exclusive platform that feels more like it's taking games hostage that presenting much incentive to buy from them isn't really what I had in mind.

It isn't "like" holding the games hostage. It IS holding the games hostage. I think EA has figured out that they can't really compete with steam so instead they're going to remove the ability to choose altogether. Hey, you want to download BF3? Well get our client or fuck off.

This is part of competing though, just like you'd never see a Valve title on Impulse or a Stardock game on Steam.

I think the issue with this though is that they're SPECIFICALLY going out of their way to pull games out of specific platforms just because they're making their own distribution system.

You don't see a 360/PS3 multiplatform game discontinuing the 360 version and pulling all copies off the shelves just because they suddenly decided to make it a PS3 exclusive.

Actually on the US Site Origin stocks Portal 2 and Orange Box. Boxed copies (which is kinda weird) but Valve games nonetheless.

Also I wouldn't be so confident on the Valve/Impulse Stardock/Steam thing. Don't forget Stardock sold off Impulse to Gamestop. Gamestop now allow Steamworks games on Impulse and I see no reason why Stardock would want to be self-limiting to only Impulse now it's not their baby anymore. Be nice to see Sins on Steam.

EA distributes Valve's games to retailers.

I know. Just pointing out how EA games popping off Steam n EA keeping future games to themselves, yet Valve don't seem to nonplussed on yanking ties with EA. Which does seem weird. They've have quite a long-ish working relationship as dev n publisher, seems odd that EA now seem to have Valve right in their sights atm.

Just a heads up but not allowing Wang, which Wikipedia points out is "one of the most common surname in the world", is maybe not a good idea for PR. Just in case any EA employees are looking. Bit of a faux pas regardless of what slang it can be. Johnson is slang for penis too and I doubt that's banned.

Haha... yeah... the PR department are normally the ones that are out there posting loaded guns to 12 year olds telling them to shoot anyone who gets between them and an EA title.

The much maligned legal department are the ones charged with apologising to the local police force (http://www.metro.co.uk/news/296342-outrage-over-mercenaries-petrol-stunt) asking for our stuff back (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/news/a152508/ea-recalls-promotional-knuckledusters.html) and general clearing up after PR have offended everyone within range (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/extra-credits/2794-An-Open-Letter-to-EA-Marketing).
