>Mature rated game

>Can't swear

Let's be fair here, it's across all EA forums, not just Battlefield ones. To be honest, I don't have a problem with that rule - provided I'm not being banned from playing my games if I break it, that is. When the =iBF2= BF3 server was going (Still is but we're not renewing and couldn't be bothered keeping it seeded), we had a no swearing rule and there'd be people using that argument but in that case, it's passive swearing. By that I mean that it's not really directed at anyone in particular whereas players swearing usually means someone is insulting someone else and it could get very ugly, very fast. I imagine it's for the same reasons that EA don't allow swearing on their forums.

Now, if only they had half-decent moderators to run their forums effectively.

From my experience, you're more likely to hear "Fuck you, M16A3/USAS/JET/HELI/etc/etc/etc noob!" or something similar. The only time I really see that straight-up exclamation on servers is when someone fucks up and kills someone else and they're apologising, which itself is a rare act.

You have a fair point though, you don't need to swear to insult someone but I've found having a no swearing rule helps to maintain control on a server, and it has the benefit of weeding out the dickheads who'll join the server, ignore all the rules and then get angry when they're warned about swearing - Speeds up the kicking process. I should have some chat logs around here somewhere if you want an example.

Okay people, now's your chance to tell them what you think.

my post for the record:

"I do like the ability to download games that I've purchased through other distribution sites and overall the program works rather smoothly.I do not like the privacy policy, the integration with Battlefield 3 is horribly obtuse and obstructive and only through the brilliance of BF3 do I suffer through the quagmire of the Battlelog and origin integration. I do not purchase anything through origin directly and I fully intend to uninstall origin the second I'm done playing Battlefield 3."

Well, now you can be banned from the forums without being banned from the game, or so I'm told.

So far the winning comment is this:

"(1) I like the uninstaller. (2) Please add a feature to purchase and play EA games through Steam."

It's all pretty generic stuff, they collect data to provide services, don't share personally identifiable data with third parties, collect analytical data that is not identifiable. What about any of that do you find offensive? If you've got enough of a problem to complain about the Privacy Policy, then the least you could do is try to form some kind of understanding as to why you don't like it. Other than having read somewhere that it was a Bad Thing of course.

No, it's just the collecting of the anonymous data that I find irritating. Really though the other stuff is more what I don't like about Origin. It's horribly obtuse when using Battlefield and the whole thing serves to make BF3 a far worse experience than it would have been without it. If Battlelog existed solely as a website and was not required to play the game like Bungie.net I'd be fine with it. Bungie.net is great. Even COD elite is a separate site that's not required. Why EA insisted on forcing you to use a horrible web based system which is constantly needing updating is beyond me but that you have to launch origin to launch battlelog to wait 5 minutes until the game itself finally launches and if you want to change any settings in the game you have to do it while the game is live. It's a terrible terrible system which hampers a great game.

Yes I know battlelog and Origin are not the same. Honeslty my beef is a bit more with Battlelog than it is with Origin but I still don't much care for EA's catchalls about we're going to collect whatever data we want and you can't opt out without sending in a physical letter. It's just kind of jerkish. Not a huge deal but annoying nonetheless. If it were a huge deal I wouldn't have bought BF3 at all.

For the record, I don't use very many other direct download sites which use clients either. I only ever got into steam because the prices were so low I didn't mind selling out some of my rights because for $5 if I lost access to the game down the road it was probably still worth the $5 to me.

So long as you understand that Origin is far from unique in its data collection practices that's fine. Personally, I don't care which corporations hold my data, other people are more data concious. Vive la difference.

I agree that Battlelog is a somewhat unnecessary barrier to entry, as a console gamer it doesn't bother me as I only use Battlelog for the stats checking.
