Waldorf and Statler
I don't know. There's something about this new season. Some of the characters aren't working for me as they did in the books. To be fair they need to fit a lot in 2 seasons but even then the story is moving really slow because, as I feared, they need to fit too much and too many characters in two seasons. For me the strongest parts in this book involved Jon Snow and Tyrion, and we're seeing very little of their side so far. The Brienne/Jaime sword fight was much more well played in the novels. I know it seems like I'm nitpicking, and to be fair I am, but I still can't help it. Let's hope the season gets better once the story starts rolling in but at this pace so far I am not having too much fun.
Mister Jack
I'm liking it just fine but I have not read the books.
Waldorf and Statler
My main issue, which heck you might not experience, is that the pacing of the show has been dreadfully slow. Apparently I'm not the only one whose noticed as reviews for fans who have read the novels have also mentioned it. There's also some personal issues with them departing from certain characterizations/scenes that took place in the novels for the sake of say, having a character show up in this scene/season over another one. I'm curious how they'll use it to bring up certain plot points. But at this early point in the season I'm playing "spot the difference"
Thursday Next
I do the spot the difference thing too, some of what I have heard of season 3 troubles me, but I won't be able to see it until next year. It's made doubly worse by the fact that I am re-reading the books and have just started A Feast for Crows.
Waldorf and Statler
I am REALLY not looking forward to the pacing of the seasons dealing with AFFC and ADWD. Those two books moved along just fine separately because they focused on one group of characters. The tv show will do a chronological order so that means that if there were pacing issues with this season and next, there will definitely be some in the 5th and 6th season. P4: Gritty Reboot
I feel the show will handle that part of the timeline a little better from a pacing perspective than the books, seeing as the characters who wander around for 15 chapters can be fast-forwarded pretty effectively.
Waldorf and Statler
Maybe. All I can tell you for now is that I am NOT looking forward to a whole season or two of   Theon getting tortured. Doesn't he only come back by AFFC?  Edited April 8, 2013 by Waldorf And Statler

Bang on. I bet they can't wait for that. ADWD was slow as molasses.
TCP
Books 3 - 5 are all really slow. The TV show has picked up the pace in a lot of respects like when Davos was trapped on that rock. Instead of sitting there for what felt like eons he got rescued right away. Or even Bran instead of sitting on Hodor's back for 2 books walking, warging, and more walking, he's meeting new people which is at least a little bit more exciting IMHO. Hot Heart
Great, as if they didn't waste enough time already, we're going to have two people with prophetic visions. Â I'm liking some of the new characters introduced though. Some seem interesting, and I think Dame Diana Rigg was good.

Says who? Why does the TV show have to be straight adaption? Bran's storyline in book 3 is BORING. He walks through the woods. All book. That's all he does. At least with the way the TV show did it, he's meeting these characters now, which, again, IMHO, is more interesting than spending chapter after chapter getting carried by Hodor and going into the wolfs head.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Well as long as they include that one chapter with the tower... Â Anyways, I think you're overstating things a bit. Bran has less chapters because he's doing precisely that. That's how the books are written for the most part. There's a certain character who barely gets any chapters as things go on but I would be very surprised if they don't suddenly start to have more again when they're ready to be involved. Can't really discuss more without covering everything in a spoiler tag but the only time I thought the pacing truly suffered was in Book 4. I think people just like to forget that you need to go on the journey to get to certain points for it to be worth it when they look back on what they read. TCP
Agreed. The one chapter with the tower and a close encounter with someone else was exciting, I'd love to see that on screen.I just remember Bran chapters being a total drag. And then, in ADWD, when he finally does something interesting, he gets like 3 chapters. Edited April 9, 2013 by The Cowboy Poet
Waldorf and Statler
Discussing the novels have only made me realize how much more we need to get through before the end. If at all.
Hot Heart
...I liked when Brienne kicked Jaime's butt. Â That is my contribution to the discussion.
Waldorf and Statler
And to ruin your innocent comment, it was done much better in the novels. Watching these two spasstastically clash swords didn't make me feel like I was watching two of the best swordsmen in Westeros.

^^^^^^^  This post got everything right. Bran had the most exciting chapter in A Dance with Dragons and the third most exciting chapter in A Storm of Swords. Waldorf and Statler
Jon Snow had the best chapters.  Anybody who says otherwise will get lightly slapped repeatedly by me.
TCP
Especially in ADWD. Â I hope GRRM realizes that HBO can't take forever finishing this series, this show will probably have to be done around season 7 or 8. Bran/Arya/Sansa/etc are already looking much older than at the beginning of the series, and production costs are only going to increase. How on earth is he going to get the final two books out in time? Â If the TV show finishes first, how will that affect the books!?!?!??!
Waldorf and Statler
This is the part where I, like many fans, need to point out how ineffective GRRM's writing method is. He doesn't have the excuse that he's writing a brand new fantasy story and world building to the extreme, as a certain little fantasy novel series called Malazan: Book of the Fallen builds a world that is excellent, has a plethora of character POV's, is dark fantasy, has a really interesting premise, and characters also go to the slaughterhouse every 5 seconds. All while the author managed to deliver all 10 novels, each one as long as the longest SoIaF, within a shorter time period that GRRM could ever do. In fact I even believe he brought out one per year. Faiblesse Des Sens
Well GRRM is taking on a million things at once and I do believe I've bitched about that before.
