So, how do you guys feel that the show is very likely going to overtake the books?

As a fan of the books, I'm not too pleased about it, but there's no way we'll be able to avoid show (and thus), book spoilers. Not with the popularity of the show as it is currently anyway.

If there are mountains, rivers and valleys, you bet that we geologists will be on it!

To be fair, the mid-ocean ridge and the thrust/subduction seems to be kind of odd but overall... Old gods and the new, eat rock and magma.

Do they ever explain in any of these articles why they act like Southeros doesn't exist?

I think the main reason would be is that we do not know much about Southeros besides its covered in rainforest and the like, and is dangerous as hell. Sure we know that some cities dot the coast but that is pretty much it. Same can be said of the Summer Islands (Not as much) and Ulthos (Continent southeast of Asshai). We need to know the topography, stony building material or any geologic resources that these people may be around.

Edit: Also notice how they only covered a portion of Essos. I think the main reason is to avoid the Doom. We know enough to do something with Slaver's Bay but even I would avoid Valyria. That would be quite a gap in the map. Hell, even now I would be hard pressed to come up with something for the Doom. Shit is odd.

Yeah. The Doom still reigns in Valyria even after 400-500 years (~300 of Targ rule with ~100 before Aegon conquered Westeros). The place got blighted and still remains a danger for people to go into. Regarding dragons, there may still be more in the Far East in the lands beyond Asshai.

Anyways, fuck the King. That was a nice good start to the season. The little part before the opening sequence started was nice and made my blood boil. Such is the Song of Ice and Fire. At least I got Dorne to love.

I haven't read much of the books, so I have no idea how the series is heading, but the latest episode!! WOW!!

Edit: protagonist changed to antagonist, because I'm bad at grammar

In a lot of ways Joffrey is the total opposite of Ned Stark, so it makes sense if Ned is too pure, honourable, and good for GRRM to allow living, then Joffrey is too evil. However, he's not the smartest character, he's dumb, impulsive, and nowhere nearly as cold and calculating as Tywin, Roose Bolton, or even Cersei. I don't think he's ever been the main antagonist.

Thanks to a couple of asswipes on Twitter, whom I have since ceased following, the big moment was spoiled. Discovered that Sky Atlantic's 'simulcast' boast was for the first episode only, which is pretty pointless...

However, it was still a good episode despite some hammy dialogue. I'm excited to see where things go from here.
