I'm maybe not explaining myself clearly. I'm not talking about how Robert Treat his bastards, I'm talking about how Roberts bastards ere treated. As in like..by GRR Martin. Jon Snow being a Robert bastard doesn't quite fit in with how we've had all the other Robert bastards portrayed. It would be weird to have the rest all in various places around Kings Landing, then one just sent off with Ned post-war.

Oh, I see what you mean.

It would kind of make sense though if Jon's mother were killed or something, and if he were the first one.  And Ned could say this one kid is actually my bastard, happened while we were at war, but he can't do that for a never-ending stream of kids from King's Landing, especially since he's not even in King's Landing to be fathering them.

And he does have the "hair of black" that was so signature of Robert's line.  The other theory you posted above I don't think works as well due to the hair color.

Just catching up here. Jon is 100% not Robert's bastard. There'd be no reason for that. He does have King's Blood, as the Starks were kings for thousands of years so he gets that from his

mother's side (or via Ned, as far as Melisandre is concerned) and his father was Rhaegar Targaryen, the Mad King's eldest son. This theory is almost 100%, the only way it doesn't happen is if GRRM gets pissed that everyone's figured it out and changes course, but if he was going to do that, he probably would have already as this isn't a new theory. Never mind the fact that this season was also hinting towards it, with the conversation Sansa and Little Finger had about Rhaegar, and the scene where Maester Aemon and Sam Tarly were chatting about Danny being the last of the Targaryen's and then the camera panned up revealing Jon standing in the room. Could have been coincidence but I doubt it.

Don't worry too much about the TV show adaption, in the books, Jon is described as looking very much like Arya, who is described as looking like Lyanna, Ned's sister. In the Song of Ice and Fire universe it seems like children can take on the traits on either side of their family, so for instance, Rob and Sansa look much more Tully and Arya and Jon have very Stark based features. For the Baratheon line, it appears everyone in that family was "black of hair" but that's never been 100% for all the other families. Plus never mind that in the TV show Shireen Baratheon, who is certainly an actual Baratheon, had brown hair.

This video explains everything better than I can:

This guy's videos are fantastic, I recommend watching all of them.

There are indeed ways for Jon's parentage to become known: (One minor season 6 spoiler)

-Bran's learning magical tree powers, which means he'll be able to see through time and space with those creepy trees that are all over Westeros.

-Contrary to what Dean said, Howland Reed, Jojen and Meera's (the kids who were hanging with Bran) dad was with Ned when Ned found his sister.

Also a way of proving the lineage would be:

Via Rhaegar's harp. I can't recall how often this has been mentioned in the TV show yet, but in the books Rhaegar's harp is almost always mentioned when Rhaegar is. This could be tied into what's with Lyanna being buried in the Winterfell crypt's an honor that is only meant for Stark kings/lords. This part is reaching, of course. But it'd be similar to needing a direwolf to prove Bran or Rickon are Starks.

Such was my point.

EDIT: I was referring to "However no one would be able to prove the lineage (given it seems no one but Ed knew the mother and eds dead baby)", which isn't true if R+L=J then surely Howland knows, and I'm sure Jon would take Ned's best friends word on such an important issue. To prove it to everyone incase Jon ever wanted to take the throne? That's a different issue, but conceivably any of this could happen:

A) marrying Danny (making Jon's parentage a non-issue)

B) using the harp as proof of his lineage (still not great proof but since there's no DNA tests....)

C) becoming the song of ice and fire personified, defeating the white walkers, therefor saving the world, at which point who cares, he earned that throne!!

Fuck Olly.

(this is the first of at least two "Fuck Olly"'s)

edit: everyone bangs on about this "cleganebowl" but fuck, Brienne and The Hound is one hell of a fight.

edit: Okay this is for HotHeart

- Olly kills Jon Snow...."For the Watch"

- Jonathan Pryce pops into this as  a priest dude.

- Tyrion n Jorah join forces, Jorah gets "stoneflesh"

- Danerys gets attacked, Drogon comes to rescue

- Stannis wins "Worst Father award" (Davos doesn't know...he'll be so sad)

- Jon kills a whitewalker with his sword.

- Arya becomes an assassin..then fucks up.

So I knew Jerome, of Robson & Jerome, was in Game of Thrones, but I guess cos was largely a 90's thing I had no super solid memory of what looked like and wasn't really actively looking for him. Plenty other british actors in there (most recently Maester Luwin popping up as Rassilion in Doctor Who this week).

Just found out he's Bronn. So for the Americans here is the mercenary Bronn and friend singing "Unchained Melody"
