So, my thoughts on the final episode:

Very good, but a step down from Blackwater as expected. It tied up all the loose ends it needed to, and it actually finished ahead of A Clash of Kings, closing with the prologue of A Storm of Swords.

More spoilery commentary through ASOS Prologue/ Season 2:

All in all a good season, maybe not quite up to the first in terms of book faithfulness and writing, but very good. Blackwater was a new high water mark for the series.

Good read. This is the problem I have with a lot of women that indentify themselves as feminists - and the white knights that stand by their side - all they really are is misandrists in disguise; only interested in shouting about the horrible injustices of today's culture and how men are constantly putting them down with horrible misogynistic literature like ASOIAF. To them, a woman acting more like the "misogynistic" stereotype is a weak-willed sympathizer of men.

Westeros is a world that reflects our own around the same period. Rape was common, even encouraged, among soldiers and women had very few rights, if any at all. Yet the fact remains that, just like in Westeros, there were those few who broke the shackles of inequality and rose above the station that their world threw them into.

People like Laurie Penny remind me that there's no opposite word to feminist/feminism - of course, if you were to ask Laurie Penny, I'm sure she'd say it was misogynist/misogyny.

What like Asha "I can suck whoever's cock I want" Greyjoy, Arya "cut your throat open" Stark, Melisandre "true power behind the king" priestess, Osha "saved these kids on my own after murdering all these people" Wildling, or how about House Mormont and their women? Or Brienne? The oldest child in the North receives the lord/ladyship when their parents die. Women are leaders of houses in the North. You can't have selective complaints. Yeah marriage rights yeah. Sometimes the women in charge of their houses put the kids to marriage as well.

My sister: there's a very good chance i was quite rude to an actor from game of thrones on friday night. ooops.

Me: Hope it wasn't a Lannister

My sister: i don't know much about GoT but i know that they are evil. this guy played jon snow

Me: Ha. I think many girls would have been insanely jealous of you then.

My sister: he doesn't look as much like heath ledger in real life as he does on tv. he also wears ugly scarves.

Trust my sister... Bet she called him a bastard.

@Chew Before you come back to add in an age jump:I am not sure how old Dany is currently but even if we shot up her age by five years, she will still be 18 and be more or less the same. So FDS point still stands. I think things will change with Dany in the Winds of Winter after what happened in Dance.

Of course things could go your way. I just believe there will not be a happy ending but Dany will survive through or very near the end of all this.

@Chew: Dany is 13. Cersei isn't. You just described an average teenager.

Cersei, from the information we're given about her past from her own recollection, had not changed one bit. If anything, she got worse. Dany is 16, I believe. It still doesn't discount the parallels between the three characters.

It's an interesting take, and I think it's plausible given that nearly every major event in the book has been foreshadowed in a very forthright way--though we don't always pick up on this until a re-read.

This kind of stuff is all over the place, and it's certainly possible. I could still see her maturing and things going the other way though.

I'm loving ADWD. 3-4 chapters ago I reached the point the events overtake AFFC. I know it sounds silly but I felt a bit oversaturated with all my favorite characters in one book for so long and so often. I miss the Sansa chapters, believe it or not.

I think Sansa might be one of my favourite characters. She's come a long way from the annoying little girl in AGOT, and she's got some pretty interesting stuff going on. As for Crows, what did you think to it? Aside from the last third, i was completely underwhelmed. Maybe it was coming off ASoS but it lacked any real...excitement. Thankfully ADWD fixed that. I managed to get through the last half of that book inside 5 days.

I'm at the 90% point of ADWD.

As for AFFC I actually liked it but can see why people were underwhelmed with it since folks had to wait years for the next book after ASOS and it wasn't nearly as exciting. All the chapters dealing with the Greyjoys were uninteresting for me but necessary [i guess]

I was spoiled over the RW and was half spoiled about what happens to my favorite character at the end of ADWD so I asked since I was dying. Besides that I've learned that you're basically looking to get spoiled when discussing the TV show on the internet without having read the books, or reading the books way after they come out.
