The theories about the red star (that knight being waved around by Wun Wun), the salt (tears), smoke (steam), etc all fit perfectly. What's with Bran getting short changed? Didn't like Dany's ending. She seriously needs to head to the Westeros. I was a little disappointed reading the entire book waiting for Victarian and Tyrion to get to Dany, only to have them never actually reach her before the end of the book. At least she's the fuck out of the city, and the city is completely fucked so I doubt she's going to stay there when/if she goes back. Bran is only getting short-changed because obviously there's not a lot going on yet. It's interesting, sure, but I don't think GRRM wanted to drag that out. Anyways, if what he's revealed from The Winds of Winter is any indication, he will show a bit of what was going on that we didn't have any perspective on before moving on to all of these converging events. The one chapter I read was from Theon's point of view at the camp outside Winterfell. Fucking great chapter. IIRC, we should have another preview chapter soon. Oh and yeah, no one thinks Jon is dead for that reason... but this is GRRM here and at this point he might have read that so many god damn times he's not going to do anything close. The legendary hero Azor Ahai was to be reborn, and every time Mel looked to see him all she saw was "Snow". There are a lot of indicators that he's "not quite dead". Reveal hidden contents To elaborate on what P4 said... "When the red star bleeds and the darkness gathers, Azor Ahai shall be born again amidst smoke and salt to wake dragons out of stone." Red star = When Jon gets stabbed, Wun Wun has beaten a knight bloody and is throwing him around in the air. The knight's sigil is apparently a star. Darkness gathers = this one could be anything. It was night time, it could be Jon's brothers, or the threat beyond the wall. Born again amidst smoke and salt = Jon's wounds were described as smoking. Bowen Marsh was crying.
