Jamie mentioned a large cache of it hidden away in the Red Keep and a large portion of King's Landing during the bath scene with Brienne a while back. The Mad King wanted to blow/burn up the whole of King's Landing to the ground. "Burn them all!" was his orders during the Bran's flashbacks this season. Well, since Tyrion used Wildfire during the Siege of King's Landing a while back and with what Jamie knows... Cersei is going to go Mad King level of being a cunt. This theory should be true. There's Bran's greenseer dreams and Dany's House of the Undying visions to back this up. Bran's dream had exploding Wildfire. Dany's vision had a roofless Red Keep. In the books, I recall Cersei burning the Tower of the Hand down. This is a logical next step for her madness. On another note, I'm sad with the development of Jamie's arc in the show. In the book, even he's tired of Cersei's bullshit. In the show though, he's still really all about her. Although, I believe the show actually left out that part of the prophecy, it could still feature in somewhere. There is the theory that it will be Arya because Jon Snow repeatedly referred to her as "little sis" (valonqar could be gender-neutral) and "The Strangler" is a poison the Faceless Men use that could "choke the life" from her. Of course, the show hasn't really set up the "little sis" thing (Needle is a reminder of Jon though) but it did set up that situation where Arya was supposed to poison an actress playing Cersei, which I find interesting. Joking aside, it's worth noting that it was a Mormont shield that John grabbed to win the fight against Ramsay so that we could all delight in seeing his face get beaten to a pulp and eaten off. The knights of The Vale (aka Sansa and whatever deal she made that I hope isn't marriage to Baelish and his lordship of Winterfell) really saved the day, but every last scrap of manpower counted towards the battle's outcome. *can we also talk about the tremendous fortune this show had in stumbling upon a child actor that can deliver the intensity that that little girl who plays Lady Mormont does? Unless she's much older than she looks, I'm very impressed, even when she doesn't have a single line to deliver. I think Lord Tarly probably holds the intensity crown at the moment though, for the record. At least among living characters. On to the obvious: Is it safe to say that we've achieved a new milestone in the cinematic portrayal of medieval battle scenes? They crammed so much activity and detail into that scene that I'll probably have to watch it it least twice more to fully appreciate it. A buddy of mine claimed (as we typed in caps to each other after the episode) that there was a good deal of reference to historical battles contained in there as well. I know that one was mentioned in the behind the episode. There was a lot to appreciate, but my personal favorite part was that one lengthy shot of John fighting on foot while the soldiers clashed. It was incredibly busy and chaotic. The trampling was intense as well. I'm pretty impressed that this episode managed to be as exciting and satisfying to watch despite much of it being (I imagine) being predictable for many of the viewers. Even though I was waiting for the knights of The Vale to show up the entire time, it was still an awesome arrival for how well done it was. I loved that bird's eye. Ramsay's ending could only have been more fitting if Theon popped out of nowhere, cut off his cock, and beat him to death with it. I think this season might have replaced season 4 as my favorite. I might just be saying that because of how pumped I still am from ep 9, but I feel like I can say that this one takes the crown, even before seeing how it ends. Speaking of, things are about to get incredibly awkward between Davos and Melisandre... Davos plays it cool for the most part, but I really hope that this doesn't end up in anything bad happening to him. Or to Melisandre, even if she has it coming big time... I guess I'm a sucker who forgives child killing when the killer becomes useful in other ways. And when she becomes increasingly attractive with every season. Her vision about the Flayed Banners being lowered in Winterfell came true by the way. There have been a few other little things that had supported my theory of her communications being with an actual character that exists in the last episodes, but I'll spare you guys for now. And yeah this is the first proper battle we've actually seen on screen on GoT, rest are all of a "and then he got hit with a rock n woke up after it had all happened" style. So definite increase in budget. I'd be curious to know of the inner-industry knock-on effects that GoT is having with the amount of money being pumped into it. I know having Harry Potter over in UK helped pick up chunks all of the place having boosts to likes of Doctor Who n eventually Star Wars. There's definitely a degree of predictability snaking in, and I think some characters are starting to get too strong a plot armour. Reveal hidden contents The mireen stuff I think now has a neat bow on top, Danerys has her fleet, her horses, her dragons, and I think slavers bay is pretty slaver free. The banter/flirting between dany n asha was great (we had seen them being on the way in their last appearance, so it's not that they arrived super quick, more than it was somewhat sudden given last we saw of danyrsys was her on the dragon. Just a flub on the editing/pacing really). Theon n Asha were kinda pushovers in negotiations though, if Danyerys offered to work with them to change their "way of life" then might have made more sense. If the show had any sense Jon would be fucked going forwards, yes they eventually won but Jon single handily fucked up the entire battle plan leading to large loss of life and I hope at least Davos chews him out for it. And yeah be interesting to see how Davos handles Melisandre. Be interesting to see how it plays out between Sansa n Littlefinger. I'm not a huge fan of fantasy writers having this issue with using decent names. I think Jon n Ned are the only two with regular-enough names. Book I'm currently reading has a character called "Kvothe" which it even has a bit describing how to pronounce it, thankfully he normally goes by "Kote", but given "Kvothe" is like "Quoveth" or whatever I'm not sure how if it's "Coat" or "Quote".
