Wouldn't it have made more sense to take his full force down to the Crossroads Inn and then split up? Or was he taking Riverrun from the rear?

From the description of how important the Twins are, I'd have expected them to be further down the river.

Like I say, obviously need to read again. Once I'm done with Nightwatch.

I just finished A Storm of Swords. So many people dead and so many things out into the open. George sure love to make things gloomy and... freaky like the last part. With that I got to ask.

Do you guys read the books as if magic and whatever shouldn't exist in the world of A Song of Ice and Fire but it is slowly creeping back into existence as the Winter comes?

I don't think Winter is what is bringing magic. At least, it's only tied to half of the magic of the world...

Spoilers for whole series:

This is all speculation based on scouring forums a few months back but the thing that stood out is that there's essentially two types of magic. Fire and ice. More specifically, Dragon magic (fire was very weak or even non-existent until Daenarys dragons were born, this includes the ability to revive people) and Earth/Old/etc sort of magic. The green seers, the Stark family's abilities, Coldhands, etc.

On magic...

Surely then there are at least three types of magic? Fire (Dragons), Ice (Others), and Earth/Old (Greenseers). All three have their own version of reanimation / living death, we've seen Rhllor's fire, the Wights, and the bloke in the Weirwood. Perhaps magic ebbs and flows like the tides and is not tied to one specific creature, the magical drought is coming to an end and so everything, the Others, the Dragons and the Weirwood is increasing in power at roughly the same pace?

I was more annoyed/surprised by how sudden it was. Kind of like when your headphone jack get unplugged while you're watching porn.

Regardless... it was a fun episode. Was the scene with Cersei and Littlefinger in the book? I don't recall it but it sure is a good scene.

So Season 2. Anyone else catch Episode 1 so far? I felt it was good, albeit each piece was a bit truncated due to the outward-spiraling storyline. Re-watching Season 1 right now, I can say that S01E01 was better than S02E01, but ACOK is definitely more difficult source material. I felt the new characters were all cast well, and the season's setpieces like

the Battle of the Blackwater

ought to be phenomenal if they continue with the storytelling and production values of the first episode.

Episode 4... by the Seven. We finally see Harrenhal, which is a really heavy looking place to say the least. The scenes there just make my skin crawl. You really get a sense on the feeling of "Yay! I got a castle now" but it turns out to be Harrenhal and suddenly you're freaked. Now the end... playing horror games don't really prepare you for that with real folks acting. When I imagine the world of Westeros, as I said before, I imagine a world not that unlike our own but with loooong forgotten magic which is now rearing its creepy head with the White Walkers and that thing... Which brings me to the following questions:

Episode 2: Was it mentioned in the books that Craster was sacrificing the boys to White Walkers? I knew he killed them but I don't recall white walkers being involved.

Episode 4(Current): That black thing... do anybody know if that thing lived after killing Renly or how exactly they work? I was sitting here and realizing that thing could still be prowling around.

Something tells me he's going to hate having played this role later in life. I mean even Cersei has some redeemable qualities.

In real life, he seems to be pretty cool. People just have to separate fact from fiction, which seems to be impossible for some folks.

Personally, I think when he is older he can be a Bond villain. Act non-batshit insane and I can see that happening.

Apart from the excellent first episode, the second season has taken some time finding its footing.

Luckily, it's hit its stride now with The Ghost of Harrenhal. Easily one of the best episodes of the GOT saga so far. Arya's scenes were tremendously powerful, as were Davos/Stannis, who shared some awesome on-screen chemistry. Brienne was awesome as expected, in combat as well as with her clumsy/oafish honor on display in her speech with Catelyn. Dinklage was great in his scenes with Cersei as well as the pyromancers. Just a great episode that makes me pumped for

the Battle of the Blackwater

Also, so far as I know, there was no nudity in this episode, which is a change of pace. No Roz either.
