Mr. GOH!
Well, in this case it was a subsidiary company that was sold off to satisfy the terms of the agreement, IIRC. Which would also not apply to Ninty. Yes; the bottom line is that Ninty cannot ignore its falling stock value for long.

Mr. GOH!
Apparently Nintendo is pushing a notification to all Wii owners about the Wii U. Emphasis is on the Wii U being a new and different system than the Wii. http://www.destructoid.com/nintendo-urges-wii-owners-to-discover-wii-u-252827.phtml

FMW
I feel like that's something they should have done right at launch. I mean, it's not hurting anything to do it now, but there certainly would have been more impact trying to make this part of the larger launch push. TheFlyingGerbil
I don't think there's been much advertising at all for the wii u compared to the wii and (3)DS. They used to advertise in practically every primetime ad break. People need to know about it to buy it.
Thursday Next
At least they are trying I guess..?
Mr. GOH!
I think this counts as barely trying. I'm curious to see how the Wii U is marketed in the West over the next year; will Nintendo continue to market in dribs and drabs, or is it just waiting for the library to develop and will push harder this fall and winter? FMW
I imagine that there will be a new marketing push leading into the holiday season, as opposed to trying to boost console sales through these next few months where there are still no releases of note. That would just be kinda throwing good money after bad I think. Better to let the enthusiasts continue to doomsay until August/September and then try to pull a 3DS. deanb
Marketing during summer might be a good idea unless come run up to Xmas they want to jump in fresh while Sony and MS are well into the swing of their campaigns for two new consoles. Also assuming Nintendo is still attempting to go after "core" gamers then it might not be the best idea to drop off the face of the earth during the summer months and two new "core" console pushes. deanb
http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/07/wii-u-frostbite-engine-tests-yield-not-too-promising-results/ So two snippets of news here: 1. EA are likely to skip Wii U in many 8th gen games. 2. New Dragon Age is going to be using Battlefield engine (and Mass Effect dropping Unreal)
Mr. GOH!
It was revealed a few months ago that DA3 would be using Frostbite. As far as the Wii U goes, well, there are plenty of Japanese developers to make 3rd party titles, right? And that gamepad is just begging for loads of shovelware once the install base increases.
TheMightyEthan
Is it a surprise that 3rd parties are going to skip Wii U with their 8th Gen games? They did the same thing with the Wii this gen. The only real question is whether they're going to develop Wii U specific games to make up for it (I doubt it).
Mr. GOH!
Didn't surprise me. I wonder if it surprised Nintendo.
TCP
Who wants to play 3rd party multiplat games on a Nintendo console anyways?
Strangelove
I think he means new franchises or side games. Like Ubisoft's Zombi U or Dead Space Extraction on the Wii. I loved Extraction, but I hate when a franchise starts splintering to different consoles, Im looking at you Kingdom Hearts.
Strangelove
Im still waiting on $200 for the deluxe set price cut. Or $250 with Nintendoland and another game. Honestly, theres a lot of denial from owners and a lot of hate from everyone else. Its still "new", so its hard to say whats going to happen. The Wii survived solely on the casual crowd. I dont know the facts, but Im assuming that as popular as Nintendo franchises are, the shovelware and sports games sold a lot more combined than all the Nintendo games. Honestly, the Wii would have died in spite of having the Mario galaxy games and the Zeldas. It wouldnt have been enough if Wii Fit and Wii Sports hadnt sparked a fire under the casual crowd. Now Nintendo thinks they can do it all over again. I personally doubt that. I think the people the Wii attracted are ironically the same exact people who don't care enough to even know that the Wii U is a whole different console from the Wii. Those people they attracted are biting Nintendo on the ass. Its kind of sad. They are not going to become lifelong gamers after theyre done with Wii Sports. Theyre just going to set the Wii aside like a teenager gives up on trying to play guitar - its going in the closet with their keyboard and paintbrushes. As for the people who own a Wii U and defend it - a lot of you are crazy. You think there's a crash coming and that the new Sony and MS consoles will fail just like the Wii U. Sour grapes. I think a lot of people are way more excited over these new consoles than they EVER were over the Wii U. TCP
Who's defending the Wii U? I own a Wii U, it's nice enough system, by Nintendo standards, but there outlook on the system is very bleak... I don't think anyone can say otherwise. One thing that bothers me is the eShop. Nintendo has a huge back catalog of classic games. They finally release the Virtual Console, 6 months after launch, (I know you can play Wii VC games in Wii mode but that's not showcasing the features I bought the system for) with about 8 games, most of which being boring NES games like Ice Climber. Here we are, two weeks later, after two updates, and what have we gotten? No Super Metroid, Link to the Past, Super Mario Brothers, etc etc etc. None of the promised GBA games. No N64 games. No GameCube games. Barely even any SNES games. We get Solomon's Key and Xevious. That's not good enough. Nintendo has a huge drought of new games but the biggest library of classic games that they could be rereleasing. And it's work too, I don't want to play Super Metroid on my HDTV, but playing it on the gamepad as I also watch TV would be fantastic. Obviously, releasing ROMs of old games doesn't make up for the lack of new games, but it's better than nothing. It's like they don't want money. It doesn't make any fucking sense!/rant Edited May 9, 2013 by The Cowboy Poet
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, there is no good reason why every single Mario game from Gamecube and earlier shouldn't be on the eShop. Same with Zelda. I really don't have any idea what Ninty's problem is with that.
