Mr. GOH!
The Wii U should only be $200.
Strangelove
Id say $250. I dont think its unreasonable.
TheMightyEthan
I don't think $300 for the deluxe is unreasonable. $200 for the basic. *Edit* - As of right now, that is. They would then need to drop to $250 for the deluxe this holiday. Edited June 11, 2013 by TheMightyEthan
Mr. GOH!
The Basic is dead. 32GB unit sans game needs to be $200.
Mister Jack
200 could actually get me to buy one. Maybe.
Mr. GOH!
I might buy a Wii U if it were $200. I mean, I've paid more for dinner dates within the past week.
WTF
Tell me about it dates are expensive especially if you're in a big city. As for the WiiU. It's Nintendo's Vita - this isn't their primary focus and Japan is their primary market. The 3DS is making money. A lot of money. HD budgets are expensive. They'll just give it about barebones support with Nintendo exclusive titles and let it limp on for a year and then give it more support if they see it's worth the investment. Right now I bet they're evaluating if it's worth it and the only way they can gauge it is after about a decent HD games developed by their first party launches. Right now we have 2 Nintendo developed games for the Wii U that have been released. NSMB U and Nintendoland. Let's forget the published ones for a second since that doesn't help them gauge development and they haven't done HD development till now. The next ones coming up are Game and Wario and Pikmin. Following that we have the Luigi DLC, Wii Fit U, Wii Party U, Super Mario 3D World by the end of 2013. The sales of Mario Kart 8 is what will make them gauge the future of the WiiU. I mean seriously do you guys not see a pattern? The 3DS dropped the price and they released Super Mario 3D and Mario Kart 7. If they can drop $50 and still be within their profit margins they will do so prior to the PS4 launch (they have time). They do not need to reduce the price so early when their next decent first party games are towards the end of the year. I expect that if they do drop the price it'll be at the earliest around TGS. I'm expecting a phasing out of the basic model and the premium one to be their main SKU in two colours at $300 with two games bundled (NL + some other title). Also expect the game to be installed onto the drive rather than discs because it saves money for them. If this doesn't drive sales, expect only the announced games plus a few in dev moving forward and the WiiU to be phased out by 2016-17. I repeat they will not drop the price right now because even if they drop the price there is no compelling software for the mass market. People will buy and be like now what? (Pikmin and Game and Wario aren't compelling and I've doubts about the exclusivity of Lego City Stories). That creates a negative brand impression like the 'PS3 has no games' to a greater market. Drop the price closer to release times of major titles. I'm expecting a price drop pretty much closer to Sony and MS's console release (A month or two in advance). Most people do not buy Nintendo products to play 3rd party games. If I'm not mistaken this price drop will be timed to the release of Sonic Lost Worlds because that's the only game that can come out before PS4 and Xbone come out and it's an exclusive second party title that has a bit more mainstream appeal. Yeah Nintendoland and Sonic Lost Worlds will be the packed in games. It'll be a clever strategy in their eyes. Will it work? It's quite possible. There won't be stagnation either as when people are tired of this you have Wii Party U, SM3DW and Wii Fit U pretty closeby.
TCP
So have we found out with SM3DW will have online play? It's Nintendo, I'm going to guess no.
NeoStarr
Are we just gonna gloss over the fact that Nintendo announced a Xenoblade successor where you pilot a mech and punch dinosaurs in their stupid fucking faces?

deanb
I'd guess because it was never clear what that was. Their feed was really shit, it cut to random bits all over the place.
NeoStarr
I guess I should share the trailer then... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6Q4ld4uqcY Looks fucking awesome but needs a more metal-er soundtrack.
Mr. GOH!
Not enough reason to buy a Wii U.
NeoStarr
Smash Brothers and Killer is Dead in addition to that is more than enough reason for me; on top of Monster Hunter already being on there. X just kind of gave me the nudge I needed but I think I've decided on my first console this gen. No one feature or game should ever sell a console; but Nintendo has had a pretty awesome E3 overall. CorgiShinobi
I still want a Wii U, and truthfully I've come close to just throwing the money down, but I feel like I wouldn't give it the proper attention considering I'm still crazy about my PS3. I haven't finished most of my 3DS games like KH: 3D and Luigi's Mansion, and trust me they're great, but they don't hold my attention long. Now I'm using my money on PC components, and I've pre-ordered the PS4, so my possible purchase in on the 2014 front.
TheFlyingGerbil
Did anyone manage to get to the Best Buy E3 demos? I think that was a pretty great idea of Nintendo's.
Mister Jack
The petition/campaign to get Nintendo to end region locking on the Wii U has ended in failure. This is Nintendo though so what did anyone expect?

deanb
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2013-07-05-miyamoto-we-underestimated-cost-of-hd-development So they're having issues that Sony and MS had 7-8 years ago. Are they trapped in some kind of time bubble?Part of their advantage in being a bit behind the curve is to learn from the mistakes of those rushing ahead, but they're not even doing that. Maybe Iwata should resign?
Alex Heat
On one hand, these seems like something that was a little too obvious to miss, even if you were ignoring all the trends of last gens (current gen? Whatever!). On the other, that's what happens when you decide to not pay attention to your competition.
Mr. GOH!
Apparently ZombiU was not good for Ubi and likely played into the decision to delay Rayman and make it multiplatform. http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2013-07-08-does-nintendo-stand-a-chance-this-holiday via http://www.destructoid.com/ubisoft-zombiu-not-profitable-no-sequel-plans-257720.phtml

ZombiU was one of my games of last year. I put about 20 hours into that game over a 3 day period and loved every minute of it. I wonder; had it been on a different system (with maybe a Vita or a Tablet in place of a controller *I'm not sure how that would work*) would it have sold better? TCP
I love how, except for sales, all the NES and SNES games on Wii U have had standard pricing, with SNES games being 7.99. But they finally release Earthbound and they jack the price up on that game for no reason. I understand they're a business and they're entitled to do this, I just think it looks bad. Clearly they know Earthbound fans will pay extra. TheMightyEthan
ALSO WHERE THE FUCK IS: A Link to the Past This. That game would be so perfectly suited to playing on the tablet while watching TV or whatever. I don't have any handhelds with it and while I could use my laptop that's a lot less convenient. I suppose I could use my Nexus 7. Is it possible to sync a DS3 to an android tablet? Hmm...
TCP
I KNOW!My girlfriend is not going to want to sit there and watch me play a 16-bit SNES game for 4 hours every night for two weeks. But this is the kind of shit I want to play on the Wii U tablet. Super Metroid on the tablet controller? BALLIN'
