Faiblesse Des Sens
ALSO WHERE THE FUCK IS: A Link to the Past This. That game would be so perfectly suited to playing on the tablet while watching TV or whatever. I don't have any handhelds with it and while I could use my laptop that's a lot less convenient. I suppose I could use my Nexus 7. Is it possible to sync a DS3 to an android tablet? Hmm... Yes.

Mr. GOH!
Citing the continuing lack of key first-party titles being released to drive hardware sales, the gaming giant sold just 160,000 Wii U systems in April to June. Wii U sold just over 50k WiiU units worldwide per month in the first quarter of its fiscal year. That is atrocious. Yet Nintendo still expects it to sell 9 million between March 2013 and March 2014. Nintendo is delusional; there will be an uptick in Wii U sales figures when the big name first-party games drop, but likely not to the point of pushing 9 million more consoles by next March. Then again, I'm dubious that Donkey Kong, Pikmin, a Zelda remake, and Wii U fit will be huge system sellers. Things are not looking up for the Wii U. TheMightyEthan
I just realized that Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart 8 aren't coming out this fall. What the fuck Nintendo? Are you retarded? There's also Super Mario 3D World this fall, but I'm not sure how much that will drive sales either.
danielpholt
I wonder if Nintendo thinks the likes of 3D World and Pikmin are more interesting to the mainstream consumer than they actually are. Pikmin isn't going to provide a major push on hardware sales, and Mario 3D whilst looking neat; is just another Mario game. I'm sure Mario Kart will help, but i don't see people going ape-sh*t over these things and suddenly making the Wii U a console to own. FredEffinChopin
*sigh* Way to make use of that 1-year head start. I have to say, this is weird. I predicted it, but I didn't expect to actually end up correct... I guess that perhaps I too came to believe that they were going to land on their feet somehow, despite numerous missteps. It was just a matter of time though, before the magic of the Nintendo name lost its luster, and they had to actually produce to impress people, rather than just exist. I don't think any one or three titles can bring them back from this... They need a full strong year. A "year of Nintendo", so to speak, where they just drop hits steadily. I don't anticipate that happening. It seems this system will exist on the outskirts for however long it enjoys support. I wonder if Nintendo thinks the likes of 3D World and Pikmin are more interesting to the mainstream consumer than they actually are. It seems that way. It seems they've been in a bubble convincing themselves of what gamers want, need, and are waiting for, rather than just looking out the window. Pikmin is a fine franchise from what I understand, but I'm not sure that it's going to sell systems after Bioshock: Infinite and The Last of Us, and as PS4 and XBone release. Mr. GOH!
Nintendo launched the Wii U prematurely; the hardware was ready (and had been since 2006 (ZING!)), but the software wasn't. Why Nintendo chose to launch the Wii U with lukewarm third-party support and with neither a strong Nintendo system-selling franchise (ZELDA, MOTHERFUCKERS, PEOPLE LOVE ZELDA. AND POKEMON. AND GODDAMN ANIMAL FARM OR ANIMAL TOWN OR HAPPY FUNVILLE ANIMAL FUCKERY OR WHATEVER THAT GODDAMN ANIMAL GRINDFEST THE KIDS LOVE IS CALLED) or any games that appeal to casual consumers that really make great use of the controller. Oh, and Nintendo also seriously fucked up by calling it the Wii U. Nintendo has sucked the Mario brand dry and a Mario game won't sell as many systems as it would have six years ago. Pikmin looks kinda cool and I'm sure it would sell well if it were an iPad game. Edited July 31, 2013 by Mr. GOH!
Mister Jack
Even if the games were better, the thing still costs too damn much. When the much more powerful ps4 is only fifty bucks more, that's just all the more reason not to bother with the Wii U. That price has to change. Period. TCP
What saved the 3DS? A price drop, Super Mario 3D Land, and Mario Kart 7 all within a few months of each other. I would hope they're smart enough to do a price drop, but it's Nintendo so who fucking knows. But Mario Kart 8 isn't out this year. Hell, even 3D World, which I'm still not sold on, isn't out till December, after Black Friday. If this is how the Wii U is doing now, with 7 and 8 year old competing consoles on the market, how on earth do they expect to compete this autumn and beyond? What's the game plan? Do they launch another console in 2 years? Will their investors let them do that? Will they just go completely handheld? I'd be lying if I said I didn't hope this blew up in their face. It would be a wonderful day to play a Zelda game that takes full use of the PS4. But that's just wishful thinking for now. Further to what GOH! was saying, how hard is it to make a fucking Zelda game? If Ubisoft can turn out decent Assassins Creed games every year, how come Nintendo can't get a fucking Zelda at launch? 8 dungeons, decent size overworld, it's not like it's Elder Scrolls or GTA or something. They knew they were going to launch the Wii U in late 2012 for years, you really can't get a team working on that? But it's super important to have your best developer making a side scrolling platformer? Right.... right.... As hardcore gamers, the people who buy consoles in the first year of release, how impressive do Pikmin 3, Super Mario 3D World, and Wind Waker HD, look to you guys? I'm sure they'll all be good games, but Pikmin doesn't look that different from the GCN games, Super Mario 3D World is the same experience that we can already get on 3DS, and Wind Waker is literally a HD port of a GCN game, which I'm planning on getting but honestly your big November release should be a NEW game, not a rerelease, Wind Waker HD would have been a great game to release in early 2013 to tide people over to the new Zelda game coming this winter. I'm not one to say Nintendo needs new IPs, but there's nothing exciting like Super Mario Galaxy was, Metroid Prime, or even the Wind Waker was when it launched the first time. TheMightyEthan
I think a 3D Mario game could sell systems, but Super Mario 3D World is not that game. We need something new, and full-fledged feeling, like Mario 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy were. This feels like a game that should be $40. I plan to get it, and I'm sure I will enjoy it, but it does not seem like a real 3D Mario game, more like a weird offshoot of NSMB. I still think that Mario Kart and Smash Bros could sell systems, but they would need to release holiday, not after. As for Nintendo going the way of Sega, I want to say I'd be okay with that, but I'm not convinced the quality of their games would stay up if that happened. Though at the moment we're not really getting any games at all...
Mister Jack
Super Mario 3D Land was rather underwhelming and I expect exactly the same for 3D World.
TCP
Ethan, I don't know if we really have to worry about becoming Sega. By that I mean creating shitty games. Going third party is something they should be concerned about, especially since some of their investors were telling them to release games on iOS BEFORE the Wii U even launched, can't imagine what they'll do now. But I don't know if Sega was ever really that great of a software developer. Even in the 90s, those old Sonic games suck. Nintendo though, if the development teams could stop worrying about fitting gimmicks like motion controls or touch screens in their games, and just focus on making good games on powerful systems, I think they could do some great stuff. Can you imagine playing Mario Kart on a platform like PS4 with a real online system? Can you imagine trying to earn a platinum trophy in a Zelda game? Or your system dies but you can redownload your SNESClassic of Super Mario World? Can you imagine having actual online co-op in the next 3D Mario?! You'd be up in Freedom Town, USA and you'd be all like "Yo, TCP, hop on that goomba!"and I'd be up in Prince George, Canada and I'd be all "Sure, let me get this coin first".. FUCKING STRATEGY! TCP
Looks like the recently announced Arkham Origins multiplayer might not make it to Wii U. Not that anyone gives a fuck cause, at this point how the hell aren't we done with shoestringing multiplayer into games that don't need it? But I think it says a lot about A) the Wii U's online infrastructure B) developer's interest in developing for that platform.
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, the only reason I have mixed feelings about them going third party is that I'm not 100% sure their games would stay at their high quality bar, given that they would no longer have the pressure of selling a system. The idea of being able to play my Marios and Zeldas on PS4/Xbone/PC though is fan-fucking-tastic. *Edit* - Re: Arkham Origins MP: The announcement of multiplayer actually devalued the game in my opinion, and made me slightly regretful of my PC preorder I just did yesterday. TCP
Hey, Nintendo, it's me, The Cowboy Poet. I know we've had a love/hate relationship ever since the N64. I know you're pissed at me for never buying a Game Cube. Hell, I'm still pissed at you for thinking it's acceptable to not release anything besides Zelda in the final 24 months of the Wii's life. But friend, you need help. Though, to be honest, somethings can't be fixed. You can't change the name of the Wii U now. And yeah, you horribly underpowered this machine. But hey here's what you do:1) Price cut to 199 2) For the immediate future, get some more Virtual Console games on there for people to play. Make sure N64 and GCN games are there. Every week release one interesting game for each of NES/SNES/N64/GCN. 3) Get Retro working on the next Metroid game. Hardcore gamers like that franchise, they'll buy systems for that game. That means more money in your pockets. 4) Stop developing motion control games. 5) Call up Game Freak and tell them that the second they're done Pokemon X and Y they'll be doing a Pokemon RPG on Wii U, with a full 3D world. There's no reason to NOT do this. If done correctly this could be a system seller

TCP
It just doesn't make any sense they haven't done that. It's so obvious!?!?!??!
TheMightyEthan
Apparently they just don't want to have all the money. They feel it would be unfair to their competition. But seriously, Pokemon MMO is a fucking WoW-killer. And I'm someone who thinks it's stupid to think anything is a WoW-killer.
Mr. GOH!
A Pokemon MMO would be problematic to administer, as the Pokemon audience is split between small children , on the one hand, and manchildren on the other. It would be difficult to make an MMO for kids that adults love and vice versa. See: LEGO MMO.
TheMightyEthan
Okay, perfectly reasonable points, so go back to making it a singleplayer RPG. Still a system seller.
Mister Jack
Even a non-MMO console Pokemon game would sell like hotcakes covered in heroin.

Mal
I would be colored interested. Nintendo, look at it this way... if you can get me to get a Wii U, I'll be out of commission on getting any console for a while. Though... $199 for a Wii U? Can I get a rebate on the 3DS XL? Mr. GOH!
Pokemon for Wii U would indeed sell like hotcakes, and would sell systems, especially if it interacted with the 3DS game in such a way that it it unlocks new Pokemon or adds value to the 3DS game.
