Mal
I dunno, it would annoy me since I only have a 3DS and with only Pokemon for the Wii U to look forward to I would just skip Pokemon to avoid putting myself at a disadvantage, of sorts. For Mario... I would like to get a good look at the Mushroom Kingdom. Yeah, we played through it a bunch of times but it always felt like a painting. Its just there and have no real life to it. In addition, they should play around with something that has been with Mario for ages... the pipes. Mario is a freaking plumber. I would expect him to know how to build them too so maybe Bowser teamed up with the mole people and taken the underground. Your job as Mario is to explore the Mushroom Kingdom is to find Bowser's strongholds in the overworld and then build a pipe to the underground lair. Rinse, repeat and add in twist while exploring the Mushroom Kingdom.
TCP
At this point, I'm having more fun watching the Wii U crash and burn than actually playing it. Just as a fan of this industry, as someone who follows it closely, it's very interesting seeing a console be so mismanaged, from the second they announced it till today. It's fascinating! How far can it fall? Edited August 1, 2013 by The Cowboy Poet
Strangelove
Im getting a Wii U as soon as theres a decent price drop and Im going to hope for the best, but I really cant see how theyre going to dig themselves out of this one. For the 3DS it was easy, it was severely overpriced. 3DS had some good games and had even more coming. Not to mention that at this point Nintendo's handhelds have built up more must haves from first and third parties. The Wii or even the Gamecube and even the 64 before it have not. Im not sure what other people think, but the days of Mario and Zelda saving Nintendo's ass are over. Theyre not what sold Wii Us. Wii Fit, Wii Sports and dancing games did. I really dont think Nintendo should have ever expected the same kind of success the Wii had from the Wii U. That was just a "right time, right place" sort of deal. Being the first to capitalize on motion controls and attaching a goddamn speak and spell to your console are 2 very different things. The wow factor is gone and it isnt coming back. They need to get that through their gullible fucking heads. At this point I really just want to play Bayonetta 2, the new Mario game coming out AND hopefully get a "real" new Mario game that will hopefully change shit up like Mario 64 and Galaxy did. The rest is up in the air.

Yeah, I don't think anyone thinks that the Wii U would sell as well as the Wii under any circumstances (except maybe Nintendo). What I've meant, and I assume other people mean, about Marios and Zeldas selling systems is that those games could boost it enough to make it a success (or could have, it may be too late after this holiday), but not that they would make it the runaway money printing machine the Wii was. Mr. GOH!
One of Nintendo's fundamental problems is that it's great at producing handhelds but not much else. Fuck, they even tried to make the Wii U a handheld. But why bother with an expensive Wii U tablet controller (unless you're one of those households with a single television, I guess, but then I have other questions about your dedication to gaming and/or visual entertainment media) when you can get the same sorta stuff on a 3DS? Mister Jack
Even Zelda's director said he's getting tired of the formula. How many times can we expect everyone to buy a system for a new Zelda if the game hasn't evolved since the N64?
Strangelove
Zelda really hasnt changed, has it? Not since Ocarina...
TCP
Majora's Mask and Wind Waker were different. But Twilight Princess was very similar to Ocarina. Which I liked, so forget you guys!
Mister Jack
I didn't like Wind Waker, and no it isn't because of the graphics. It's because sailing is boring as fuck. Also that part where you have to get an insane amount of rupees to buy a bunch of maps from Tingle was a tedious grind that killed all desire I had to finish the game. So obviously when they announced an HD remake of my least favorite Zelda game I rushed right out and bought a Wii U.
Mr. GOH!
What was Skyward Sword like? Zelda 2?
TheMightyEthan
Skyward Sword is more like Wind Waker than anything else, but it had its own changes to the formula too. @Jack: I enjoyed the sailing, but they have said they made it faster in the HD one because a lot of people thought it was too slow. I do agree that there's a problem with that part where you have to get all the maps.
Strangelove
From what I heard the slow sailing in Wind Waker wasnt by choice, the Gamecube just couldnt load fast enough. Thats not going to be a problem with the HD version.
Alex Heat
I don't care much for Wind Waker because of the sailing (it was slow and also really boring), the Triforce Hunt (which is made worse BY the sailing) and the fact that the whole game is basically 'Wait for Parry prompt, press A, succeed'. Having art direction I didn't like was just the creamy fecal matter on the shit cake for me (cel shading is fine, but character designs were not). TheMightyEthan
See, I love the art design of WW. But whatever, opinions. From what I heard the slow sailing in Wind Waker wasnt by choice, the Gamecube just couldnt load fast enough. Thats not going to be a problem with the HD version. Yeah, I've heard that too, and since now they can stream the data off the disc faster they can make the ship faster. They've also said they've sped up stuff like when you're picking up sunken treasure, it doesn't take as long for the chain to go down and come back up. Just little things to make there be less waiting. I wonder what that's going to shave off the time it takes to complete the game.
Mister Jack
Whether you liked Wind Waker or not isn't even really the point anymore. Nintendo desperately, and I do mean desperately, needs a game to move Wii U consoles. Even if it's getting stale at this point, Zelda is still one of their flagship franchises, and a remake of Wind Waker is the best they could do? Only the most diehard Zelda fans would buy a Wii U for that, and diehard Zelda fans probably already have one.
TCP
Me too. Sailing alone could shave a couple hours off the game. Unless... they were going to add in more dungeons... not likely but.... fingers crossed...
TheMightyEthan
I'm pretty sure they said they aren't adding more dungeons, but I'm too lazy to search for a source.

TheFlyingGerbil
Me too. Sailing alone could shave a couple hours off the game. Unless... they were going to add in more dungeons... not likely but.... fingers crossed... To expand on Ethan's point (still no sources, but I read it on the Nintendo official site and it was someone like Aonuma, so not just some random rumour) the reason they're not going to add the extra dungeons back in is because they were already recycled in to subsequent Zelda games so there simply aren't two unseen dungeons waiting to be popped back in to WW. Mr. GOH!
Bottom line is that Nintendo better not be relying on an HD remake of WindWaker to sell the WiiU. I won't call the Wii U doomed at this point, but if sales have not improved much after the holiday season, Nintendo is in for a world of hurt. Yeah I read that too. I was thinking more like they'd MAKE new dungeons. I know, that won't happen, but a man can dream, Goh.
TheFlyingGerbil
I'm guessing, since so far Wii U is the Nintendo lazy-cash-in-machine (Pikmin 3, Zelda WW HD remake, super mario u, super mario world are all rejigs of previous games) any ideas of adding new content to the game was slapped down hard and fast. Even WW HD being released as full price retail hacks me off - think of the HD updates on PS3 where they put collections together and release them at a budget price and I struggle to see the value of Nintendo's offering. TheMightyEthan
It's not quite full price (at least in the US), it's $50 instead of $60. As for the PS3 bundles, I can kind of see your point, but to me personally none of those had any value at all because I wasn't interested in the games (with the exception of the Ico/SotC bundle), so this is a better value. Bottom line is that Nintendo better not be relying on an HD remake of WindWaker to sell the WiiU. Oh yeah, I think just about everyone can agree with that.
