Strangelove
Jesus, Im trying not to be so negative, but it seemed like the Mario/last gen third party machine to me. I thought the WiiU was supposed to be more graphically powerful than the 360/PS3? I didnt see that at all. It got some good 3rd party support right now, but what happens when third parties start making games for the next PS/Xbox? Nintendo will be left in the dust again. I will say that they had the best conference as far as being entertaining. Very few awkward or annoying moments. The games though? The 3DS stuff was good, but.....I dunno. TCP
A little disappointing they spent so much time focusing on a game that came out last fall, a party game, and some Ubisoft stuff we saw yesterday. Would have been great to get a price and date. Still wondering if my VC games from Wii will transfer over. What about Smash Bros? They mentioned it last year, and yet have nothing to even show this year? They could have really blown the doors on the Wii U open, talked about how it works, how it integrates with the 3DS. But at least they didn't have Usher on stage.
TheRevanchist
A man from Ubisoft said this: "Assassin's Creed III is coming out on October 30 on the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U.” So, Wii U will be sooner than later? Was he just speaking in error? Yo no se, amigo.
TCP
I suppose it could come out a few weeks before the console.
TheMightyEthan
As far as I was concerned that presentation was very front-loaded. Pikmin 3 and Scribblenauts had me salivating, but then the rest was a big meh. Smash Bros would have been great to see. @Strangelove: The WiiU is supposedly marginally more powerful than the PS360, but not just a whole lot more. CorgiShinobi
Probably the better conference of the Big Three, but there were selective moments in each one that wowed me (and I imagine for most others too). As far as multiplatform and graphics go, it's going to be like the sixth generation. Technically speaking, the PS2 was the weakest graphically whereas the Xbox had more potential. Yet, most multiplatform games looked similar with only the largest of whores looking at specific details. So while the WiiU is going to start out as Nintendo's "catchup" console with Mass Effect 3, Arkham City, and etc, I imagine the exclusives should have "more" to them. Well, hopefully speaking of course. Edited June 5, 2012 by Atomsk88
TheFlyingGerbil
aren't they concentrating on a smash bros. for the 3DS before the WiiU one? Also, is there a space between Wii and U?
P4: Gritty Reboot
Yeah so: Pikmin 3 -- A+, very interested. Great graphics, some of the coolest actual gameplay we've seen at E3 so far. Scribblenauts -- A, color me intrigued. New Super Mario Bros. U -- B, looked cool gameplay-wise but still old assets? Arkham City -- D, old hat. Cool controller implementation. I may get it if I haven't played it on PC by then though. Mass Effect 3 -- C-, still old but a massive franchise gain for Nintendo. Again may play on Wii U if I don't cave and play on Origin first. Wii Fit U & SiNG -- No score. Casual stuff, not the target market, don't care. ZombiU -- B-. Has potential. Could be lame. Lego City -- B+. Lots of potential. NintendoLand -- C+. Minigame collection. As a pack-in it could do miracles for the system's sales. As a retail title it'll fall flat for me. The gameplay demo was really awesome though. The 3DS section had some good stuff as well. Overall a decent conference, but no killer app was shown. Hopefully they'll reveal one before launch, or it could be a slow start at retail. TCP
Man, I still can't believe they fucked it up. I never really cared about Pikmin, kind of burnt out on zombie games, and as much as I love Mario, the "New" games have never been the series strongest points, and having two of them coming up does nothing for me. They could have just killed it this year. Announce a release date, system specs, show some Smash Bros footage, mention a 3D Mario and Zelda are in the works, and show us what Retro is doing. Hell, Sony showed better Nintendo games last night.
Mister Jack
The 3DS stuff was better than the Wii U stuff.
TCP
Agreed. Paper Mario was the best of the Mario/Luigi games they showed. Edited June 5, 2012 by TheCowboyPoet
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, I would have been much much more excited about a 3D Mario. That actually would have clinched the sale for me. I can take or leave the New Super Mario Bros games.
TCP
Why not release ONE New Super Mario game that's playable on both 3DS and Wii U? You could download it on both systems, and have cross play inbetween. That would have gotten me excited.
Strangelove
I dont think Nintendo wants that kind of connectivity between the Wii U and the 3DS...yet. If they were too closely linked people would demand all sorts of crazy things, like Virtual Console games to be playable on the 3DS without having to rebuy them. No, they have to sell their own version of the same thing for each console so people can double dip. Gameboy Kirby port...in 3D!!!!! ONLY FIVE BUCKS! What a steal! TheMightyEthan
According to Nintendo the battery in the tablet only lasts about 3-5 hours.
P4: Gritty Reboot
At least they'll finally let you charge while you play. Batteries have been a headache on the Wii.
Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
I did a total 180 on the system. During the press conference I wanted nothing to do with the system. Today? After watching the videos and reading up on information outside of the press conferences, I kind of want one. Well, not kind of, I REALLY want one. TCP
According to Nintendo the battery in the tablet only lasts about 3-5 hours. That's actually probably better than expected. Does anyone seriously game for 5 hours at a time? And even if you forgot to charge it, if you can charge it while you play, you're safe. Strangelove
I dont mind the battery life, but im kind of confused why its that short. its about the same as the 3DS and the Vita, but those are consoles being powered up, as far as I know the WiiU gamepad is just streamed data. Its like watching a streamed movie. Im sure the display size and brightness matter, but its not running an entire console or anything. Faiblesse Des Sens
It likely has its own processor of some sorts to run the screen and all of the many inputs and to send the data to the Wii U. Plus, they probably didn't want to include a huge battery to keep the weight down.
TheMightyEthan
Ah, hadn't considered the weight factor. @TCP: I frequently game for more than 5 hours at a time on the weekends.
TCP
Yeaaahhhh now that I think about it, me too. OK: Outside of a Zelda game every 5 years, does anyone actually play Nintendo consoles for more than 5 hours at a time?!
P4: Gritty Reboot
Not sure if trolling...
Faiblesse Des Sens
Not sure if you realize their market for nost of their Wii products are casuals who play games in small spurts
CorgiShinobi
Depends on how much I have to do and if I'm lucky enough to get that much allotted time to play games.
