  1. 1. Buying a Wii U?

    • Pre-ordered/will buy before launch
    • I'm waiting for a specific franchise announcement
    • Will buy it when cheaper
    • Probably not buying
    • Definitely not buying
    • Flipping it

The coolest thing about it for me is the ability to play games on the tablet so you're not hogging the TV. But looking over the list of launch software, though impressive in terms of quantity, the only two games I'm at all interested in off it are Pikmin 3 and ZombiU. And really those not very much.

*Edit* - Show me a 3D Mario and a new Zelda and we'll talk. Show me a full-fledged Pokemon game (I know it'll never happen, but a man can dream) and I'll buy it right away.

Oh, since some people were asking, they've said that the WiiU will work with flash drives or external hard drives via USB, so you can connect as much storage to it as you want.

Nintendo supporting universal standards and Sony requiring proprietary storage... I feel like I woke up in bizarro world.

@ excel: Nintendo Land is a pack-in in the premium bundle, and it also does include the Nintendo network premium. It's not 10% off, it's points back equivalent to 10% of the price you pay for the downloads. the points payback won't be active straight away, but they will backdate it for games you've previously bought when it becomes active so no need to hold off from buying downloadable games at launch. Also, it works for DLC too not just full games.

the ZombiU bundle also includes a pro controller so looks to be good value too as it's £325 on shopto and the normal premium bundle seems to be £300 most places.

That nano game is a download game and is a launch title, not launch window, so that implies the eShop will be running from day one which is good.

Anyway, I'll be getting it at launch, probably the zombiU bundle, if not the premium bundle. It's the PS4, xbox 3 that will have to fight for space under my TV as the order in which I've enjoyed my consoles this gen is Wii >= PS3 > 360 so it's MS that will have to pull off something special for me, not Nintendo.

Mister jack mentioned this on the last page, but 8GB is better than the Xbox 360 4GB at least.

Looking through all the coverage, I still believe Nintendo is trying to make this a hybrid console with the two different SKUs. The basic one applying more to families while their more "gamer" centric one offers four times the memory and comes in the "Hardcorz BLAK!"

I'm a little more tempted in getting a WiiU with $350 being the highest, and having a bundle or two, beats the start of the seven generation when consoles ranged from $400 to $600. I even have a spare external HDD with 160GB which should last a long time given that I've only filled that much on my 250GB for my PS3 in four years.

350 isn't exactly a BAD price, but the Playstation 4 (or Orbus or whatever the hell it's called) can't be that much farther away, and I highly doubt they'll repeat their FIVE HUNDRED AND NINETY NINE US DOLLARS mistake. It'll probably cost more, but the question is will it cost so much more that the Wii U's price point will make it a good alternative, even knowing that I probably won't like its games as much?

I might get it to be honest. I just spoke to Amazon CS and they said my preorder price would be guaranteed. In all honesty the damn thing isn't worth the 250/300/350 they're charging for. 200/220 and 250/270 seems appropriate and I've even heard that the range was supposed to be 199.99-279.99 before retailers decided to put it up higher. Amazon initially went with £210 and £260 but then took it off. I got in at 199.99 for the 2 minutes that it was on and I feel that's a decent replacement for the Wii and I might get a slight upscale from the 480p that it plays at and that would be worth it enough in my opinion.

Though I've got to be honest, I'm really not much of a heavy gamer anymore with my career and business consuming all my spare time and I'm back to being a more PC/handheld gamer once again.

I'll be getting ZombiU and Lego City Stories and possibly Rayman Legends. That's about it really. I don't really like Pikmin (hate that sort of game in all honesty - sacrifice was probably the best that had the whole unit following you RTS mechanism and the only one I enjoyed outside of Giants: Citizen Kabuto). But I can see Japanese support coming in heavily for this due to DQ X, MH3 and other titles that there'd be more titles that I might be interested in. at the price I'm getting I'm good to give it a shot.

Damn it I missed the amazon £200 price. To be honest, the Wii not playing discs is a reason for me to upgrade, I still have at least nine Wii games I play and have yet to finish.

Bloody hell, 200 quid would have been the BEST.

Gerbil: All DLC being 10% off is fantastic.

well, I've pre-ordered it at £300 for the ZombiU premium bundle. Shame I'm the only person on the board that actually seems excited about it - people elsewhere seem more enthused.

It's de rigueur to be non-plussed by tech announcements. See iPhone 5 and WiiU for prime examples. :)

Well the iPhone 5 was just an incremental update. Gizmodo wrote an article on how it being boring was a good thing, and how it will continue to be boring until they lose market share.

With the Wii U.... well personally game launches in general are meh because launch lineups are never that great! Why spend the money on a console on launch that will get a price drop by the time it has good games?

No worries. I'll be equally meh when their competitors go to talking about next-gen hardware. I might be more inclined to buy that hardware, but not enthused!

Not true at all, at least when talking about their consoles. The Gamecube had a price drop to $150 from $200 a year after its release, and then down to $100 the year after that. The 3DS price drop is also still fresh. If the Wii U doesn't do well, they'll drop the price. I think personally its in a better position to do well sales wise than the Gamecube was, at least. New Super Mario Bros is quite the monster.

The whole Bayonetta 2 exclusivity has reminded me of how ridiculous gamers can get over these things. It reminds me of when Oddworld went from PlayStation to Xbox.

I think we know by now, but in case not it was because SEGA dropped the series and Nintendo swooped in to claim the property. The reactions ranging from disappointment to people willing to vandalize copies of Bayonetta 2.
