CorgiShinobi
That's some fancy jazz for a transfer process, and I'm sure there's a good amount of people excited to see Pikmin on their WiiU console. Over the weekend I was talking and watching this going on, and while it feels weird not getting a new Nintendo console around launch, it's something I have in common with a lot of gamers around me (locally) under the same situation. I'm about to graduate, so jumping into the next-gen console "era" isn't exactly what's on my mind at the time. I'm not even going to bother any family about a WiiU this Christmas season because it's going to be another madhouse. My father still remembers the time he won my GameCube for Christmas in a raffle because there were so few left at the store. He was lucky, and I only got a Wii in 2006 because I had the time to wait 12 hours at Walmart for one.
TheMightyEthan
I got my Wii U because on Saturday I was like "I'm gonna go to Walmart tomorrow morning and just see if they have any." I went when I got up at 7 AM (no alarm, I just naturally wake up that early), they had 3 Premium Wii U's and 3 Basic Wii U's, I bought one of the Premium ones and went home. I went back around 4 PM to get some stuff we needed to continue painting our house, and they only had one of the Basic Wii U's left. So it obviously sold out pretty quick, but it wasn't like I had to fight people for them. I guess one of the benefits of living in a small town. The didn't have any copies of NSMB in stock though, so I had to order that from Amazon and it should get here Wednesday (and even Amazon only had 2 left in stock when I ordered it). Baconrath
Are they going to repeat the Wii Motion Plus shenanigans with the Wii U pad or did they ship a "complete" product? I guess it's too soon to tell... I await the inevitable Wii U XL.
CorgiShinobi
The only changes we can expect is Nintendo eventually increasing the size of the internal storage. I can't imagine the actual control pad getting any serious changes, especially if the thing is designed to be the only pad per console. It's expense tech, so I can't imagine having alternative designs would be that lucrative.
TheMightyEthan
I think they said that the console supports 2 pads? But yeah, it's clearly designed around one pad per console.
Chronixal
Do the Pikmin really like moving shit or something? Not as fancy an animation sequence, granted, but much a similar one is used for transfering accounts/data for the 3DS. Odd way to make use of the IP... As for the Wii U, still very much unsold at present. The time I spent with it at the Eurogamer Expo was enjoyable but on the whole underwhelming. TheMightyEthan
Have you never played a Pikmin game? They're kind of like ants, they go pick shit up and then carry it back to base.
Popular Post Thursday Next
Presumably this is why they are called Pik-min as opposed to LeaveShitThere-min.
TCP
Dean, any possibility of getting Wii U usernames below our postcounts like PSN and Gamertags?
deanb
Done. Is there any website associated with them? (like there is for Steam/PSN/Gamertag)
TheMightyEthan
I don't think so. *Edit* - One thing to keep in mind if you're adding people is that it won't give them a notification, so you need to contact them some other way and ask them to add you back. TheMightyEthan
Comparison of the Wii U version of Blops2 against the other console versions. Summary: Visuals look as good as the 360 version, but the framerate is super inconsistent. Hard to say how much of that is the Wii U hardware's fault, how much is the dev's lack of familiarity with that hardware, and how much is just that they haven't had as much time to optimize it for the hardware. If you add them through Miiverse won't it send them a notification?

I thought the whole point of the new system was you didn't have to swap details, you could just send requests. Is the only advancement that the name is easier to remember than the number on the Wii? I'm pretty disappointed with that considering people have spent the last five years saying how awful it was you couldn't send friend requests. NIntendo really do defy logic sometimes. edit: TCPs posts gives me a glimmer of hope. Also, I see you made the 3DS code thread. Can you change the name of that to Nintendo IDs and people can add there names in there? We could probably all just add each other in there as I doubt there's much worry of many people pushing up against their friend list limit too soon on their Wii U. deanb
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/25/technology/nintendos-wii-u-takes-aim-at-a-changed-video-game-world.html?pagewanted=all&_r=2& A good peice on industry response to the Wii U. Bushnell, of Atari, is "baffled", though doesn't go much more into it than that. Which is annyoing as he'sa guy who has had it oh so well, then go oh so wrong. So of all the folks to understand Nintendos potnetially tenous position on the top he's it. Bach, of MS, reckons iPhone Mario would be good (Which I agree with as I've mentioend many times)
TheFlyingGerbil
I got my Wii U today - I think it's the first time I got a console at launch and I like it. The update was a bit of a dampener even though I knew it was coming. I walked the dogs and took a shower but would have been pretty miffed if I'd sat there that long expecting it to only take a few minutes. There were a few weird quirks with the set up - what's up with not being allowed to change your timezone?! Seems like a bit of a random thing to lock down. I also noticed while I was using the stylus that a couple of times I accidentally pressed a couple of face buttons with the side of my right hand. If I can't get into the habit of holding it in a better way that could get annoying pretty fast. For a similar reason I'd have put the speakers at the top of the controller, though I think they sound surprisingly good. I think the pad battery also lasted even less than I was expecting, I hardly felt like I'd picked it up before the red battery light came on, I think I'm going to have to get used to playing with it plugged in. I love the miiverse thing so far, people's comments popping up in Nintendo Land when you finish a level is so cool, and I like that you give posts 'yeahs' if you like them. I had a bit of a drama getting the console so the pack-in is the only game I have at the moment, but I'm gong to get a few downloadable games first. Probably Puddle and Trine 2 as they're on sale as a launch promo. That's also a good sign there's sales on already. Though it's a bit pants the Premium cashback thing is only 8% not the 10% I'm sure they said it was going to be. apparently you have to spend £62.50 to get a £5 code so while that's better than nothing, it's not really going to increase the amount of stuff I buy. Anyway, I think this all comes across as a bit more negative than I intended as I really am happy with it!
TheMightyEthan
That's weird, it's 10% in the US. You spend $50 to get a $5 code.
TCP
So how exactly do you set the 10% thing up if you have the Deluxe?
TheMightyEthan
You don't have to set it up, it's automatic, but the rewards haven't started being issued yet. Here's the site: http://ddp.nintendo.com/ *Edit* - Interesting, if you click to the Canadian page it changes to French, with no apparent option for English. Popular Post Vecha
Hope to get one of these by 2013/2014. My mother was thinking of getting one for my younger brother...but was disauaded after the "Target Electronic guy" told her, "It is going to end up like the dreamcast." My wife responded to me after I told her this, "You mean awesome and ahead of its time?"
TheFlyingGerbil
I really hate it when staff pass opinions like that - it seems really unprofessional to me and obviously effects sales. On a side note - another massively slow update today
Vecha
Yeah...They should keep their mouth shut and move the damn product. I'm sure their manager would just love to hear that a customer was disasuded from spending 350 dollars.
