  1. 1. Buying a Wii U?

    • Pre-ordered/will buy before launch
    • I'm waiting for a specific franchise announcement
    • Will buy it when cheaper
    • Probably not buying
    • Definitely not buying
    • Flipping it

Quite an impressive showing. Shin Megami Tensei/Fire Emblem crossover, Wind Waker HD, Yoshi's Epic Yarn, Bayonnetta 2, new Xeno game(I got my eyes on that one), and VC. Kinda sucks that you'll have to pay for the games again, but at least they're not forcing full price. I don't agree with paying twice, but it could be worse.

Oh, and a smartphone Miiverse. Kinda nifty.

Sucks we have to wait for fall. It'd be nice if would just do a package of Wind Waker / Twilight Princes / maybe Skyward Sword, like the God of War/Sly/Ico/Jak collections. But it's Nintendo, so they'll probably charge full retail price for Wind Waker alone. And I'll buy it, because I'm a chump like that.

God DAMN! Well actually, when I first read the headline about Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem my reaction was more to the tune of "Holy Fucking FUCK!". But let's not split hairs. Although Nintendo collaborating with Atlus is no big surprise (that's what they do now, collaborate with mid-sized and large Japanese developers for hardware exclusives) that they're going with a console JRPG and it looks like they're LOCALIZING it... that's a little bit different. And great.

See, with Bayonetta 2 Nintendo was saying "We're gonna invest in partnerships and publishing deals to make sure that there is great hardcore game content on our hardware" to which I responded "Pfff, right. It's a nice idea, but I don't see it ever happening. This will be a failed 1 shot and then Nintendo will get back to making games that sell millions." But now Nintendo's back saying "No no, I really mean it. See? We're ALSO investing in getting SMT on our platform, which is super hardcore and dark and not Nintendo-like."

...I am still skeptical. I will require 1 more big third party announcement to actually believe in this trend.

I've had no luck running GCN games on Dolphin. Don't know why.

I also disagree that it ruins the art style. Here's an album of the screenshots on imgur, but I think these are most demonstrative that they kept the look:

If someone who has been successful getting GCN games to run on Dolphin wants to do that, that would be great I agree. I just used the shots from Nintendo's video.

*Edit* - But anyway the point wasn't that the GCN version looked like shit, it was that they managed to capture the art style in the Wii U version. I agree there's a little bit too much color gradient on the characters, but overall I think they very much captured the look.

It suffers from NMB syndrome, a.k.a. Needs More Bloom. Otherwise, it's gorgeous!

I'll still keep my copy of Wind Waker on GCN (since I've learned from my past mistakes), but I'm a little more interested in GBA games coming to the Virtual Console.

The one Zelda game I never owned and barely played was Minish Cap. Practically a year after it released I could not find a copy in both my town and the surrounding towns. It was like I had the worst luck and this was before I had my own credit/debit cards to do online shopping. If I'm going to spend near the same cost of getting the game off eBay, I'd like to put that money towards Nintendo. It happened when I got Metroid II, and while I don't necessarily regret the purchase, I could have had it on my 3DS with no problems a few months later.

(You Ambassadors, with your Minish Cap game on your 3DS! )

Obviously it's subjective, but even based on those pictures I think they captured the look of the original. It's not identical of course, and as I said there's a little too much gradient on the characters, but overall I still think the captured the same type of hand-drawn/-painted style.

There were some good announcements in the Nintendo Direct, it's just that none of the games look like they'll be making an appearance this year. Even then Windwaker remake isn't until Autumn. Some people are getting excited that it will add in the extra area/dungeon that was cut out of the original but I don't think that is very likely. Surely it was cut out as it wasn't fully developed, and I don't think they'd spend time doing that now. Maybe the refinements are to trim the collectathons they added to the end of the game to replace the chunk they took out. I don't think that either though - it's probably just changes like adding the menu to the gamepad, which is technically a refinement.

The other stuff looks good, but it's hard to get excited about things that are so far away. and I'm kind of annoyed that they are recharging for wii games on the wii u, when they should be just adding them in to the wii u menu. Being able to play them on the gamepad is not a feature they should be charging again for it should be part of the standard emulation. It kind of takes the mickey a bit :(

I think someone mentioned about this before: I'm downloading the Cave and Sega racing downloads and turned on the turn off after downloading option, and that option installs the games automatically, so it's weird that normal downloading doesn't.

TFG nailed it. The more I think about yesterday's announcements, the more I think Nintendo is getting WAY more credit than they deserve.

Ocarina of Time had a ton of cut content that wasn't included for the 3DS version, so I doubt Wind Waker would get those missing dungeons as well (though, that would be cool).

I've heard people say that this was bigger than the past two Nintendo E3's combined... I call bullshit. As much as I love the SMT Persona games, I, and many other North American gamers, don't give a shit about Fire Emblem. The most exciting announcement was probably the new "X" game, but they didn't even confirm if it's a sequel to Xenoblade, or give us any idea on when it'll be announced. As far new Mario, Mario Kart, and Zelda games, no screen shots, trailers, or actual details given, just that they're all in some form of development... no shit. The Yoshi game looks kind of interesting, but again, another side scrolling platformer, I've played too many of those from Nintendo in recent years. (Also, I never gave much attention to the original Kirby Yarn game, but holy crap does that Yoshi game look a lot like LittleBigPlanet.)

Having to pay to essentially have your ROM copies of Super Mario Bros. and A Link to the Past played in a new emulator that allows for gamepad support, is bullshit. Nintendo needs to look at Sony. I can buy Final Fantasy VII, transfer it to my PSP and my Vita, as many times as I want, and even back it up to my computer, it also goes without saying when the Orbis is released, I'll be able to redownload it on my new system, again, free of charge.

The unveiling of a Virtual Console service should have been done at E3 2012, and been available at launch or close to it. The 30 cent sales are nice, but having games on sale is something they should already be doing (and more than one at a time, again look at the PSN).

Don't give a shit about Fire Emblem?! You poor, poor man. But yeah, I wasn't really impressed by anything. SMT and Fire Emblem aren't high on my RPG list. Monolith Soft are hit or miss with their RPGs: Baten Kaitos games were great; Xenosaga games were awful. Haven't played Xenoblade Chronicles.

Wel XBC is super well reviewed and the new game is basically a sequel so I t they'll be pulling another Xenosaga. I wouldn't call that series awful though... but it certainly wasn't great!

Xenoblade was pretty fantastic. This new one seems to use a similar UI and open-world layout. Some bits in the trailer make it seem like it's going to be online(spread out allies, a chat window), that one I'm not sure what to think. I can only hope it doesn't take a few years for an NA release this time, but seeing how this was on a western Nintendo Direct, maybe the odds are good?

Kinda odd how this is the game I'm most excited for.

To each his own I suppose. I did try to run Xenoblade on Dolphin, but I couldn't fix the sound issues (despite using all the tips/patches I could find). Couldn't really justify purchasing it either because the only Wii I have access to belongs to my little sis, and not the pleasant one.

I do agree with this. I mean, I don't give a shit about the transfer fees because I didn't buy anything on the Wii VC, but if I had I'd be irritated.

This approach to online content would have been nice if it had been announced at Wii launch, but now the best you can really say about it is that it's a step up from Wii.

I'm mostly just excited about confirmation of stuff we already knew was coming eventually (3D Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart) and Wind Waker HD. That last one cause I'm a tool.

I'm almost more excited for Wind Waker HD than I am for new Zelda. But maybe because new Zelda won't come out till Christmas 2014 or 2015. I'll probably be dead by that point. (You know, from a sex overdose).
