CorgiShinobi
I will not buy anything on the eShop until they implement a proper account system. This I agree with, so I'm content with my physical copy of Punch-Out!! Though I do make the except for a few digital exclusives, i.e. Mighty Switch Force. TheFlyingGerbil
they're pretty tempting at half price though. That's £8.99 here for the first week of release for each game. Pretty tempted by the Prime Trilogy as I only had the first one. Edited January 14, 2015 by TheFlyingGerbil
TCP
Question: if I add an SD into my Wii U does that increase the amount of game storage space?
TheMightyEthan
You mean like for downloaded games? I think it does, but am not 100% sure.
TCP
Yeah for games. My Wii U is low on space, but it only has 32GB anyways so maybe if I buy a large SD card that can just float me through to the next Nintendo system. There's only a handful of games I'm going to get, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Mario Maker, Zelda... and um..............
TheFlyingGerbil
You cannot run games off the SD card. I haven't entirely worked out what you can do with it, tbh, just that you can't do the main thing you would want to. You can put usb thumb drive (or sd card and usb card reader) in the back of the wii u to run games from that. Either option would be cheaper and neater than an external HDD Edited January 15, 2015 by TheFlyingGerbil
TCP
So what you're saying is I can get a 64GB USB thumb drive and triple my Wii U's storage space?! GERBIL, YOU GLORIOUS BASTARD!
TheFlyingGerbil
don't get too excited yet - all the advice I read was from the Wii U launch. There have been many updates since then so it may no longer be the case. BUT I just put a thumb drive in the back of my WIi U now to try it and am transferring Trine 2 over as I type this to see if it works. I'll update you with the good/bad news ASAP. exciting times.
TheFlyingGerbil
Good news it is. Trine 2 is still shit, but it still plays. It didn't feel any slower to load, but I probably wouldn't put something like Mario Kart on there just because I'd always be paranoid I wasn't getting optimal performance. Still, I'll happily move most of my games there which will leave space on the internal memory for the latest and greatest.

Either option would be cheaper and neater than an external HDD Oh, this is what I thought we were talking about. I completely forgot the Wii U had an actual SD card slot. What in God's name is it for if you can't run games off of it?
Mister Jack
I believe you can run virtual console games off of it.
TCP
Good work Gerbil.. you've earned a gold star. You can put usb thumb drive (or sd card and usb card reader) in the back of the wii u to run games from that. Either option would be cheaper and neater than an external HDD Oh, this is what I thought we were talking about. I completely forgot the Wii U had an actual SD card slot. What in God's name is it for if you can't run games off of it? Maybe for storing game saves in Wii mode? Or... umm... being a mystery port like the Vita-1000's accessory port?
TheMightyEthan
If I knew how I would replace Gerbil's Donator tag with that star.
Normo
Super Smash Bros. stores photos on an SD card (and supports nothing else, which is a bit annoying), but that's the only other use I can think of.
CorgiShinobi
Pretty much Virtual Console games and any in-game media is the only purpose/use I've had for the SD card. Otherwise I've got an old HDD in an enclosure for the larger items.
TCP
Woo! N64 games on the Wii U! Super Mario 64 looks way better on the tablet than blown up on the HD TV.
TheMightyEthan
Is there even any anti-aliasing or anything applied? They should at the very least have some kind of post-process AA built into the emulator, something that could just operate on the output image without altering the game itself at all. TheFlyingGerbil
there's not a chance in hell nintendo is doing anything to make virtual console games look good, they didn't even fix the PAL/NTSC frequency issues that actually make games run incorrectly never mind bother with prettying them up. N64 emulation in general is still pretty shaky, though. Sadly, I'm still not going to get Conker or Banjo on the virtual console because of those Microsoft jerks. Mr. GOH!
Good riddance to bad rubbish. I eagerly await Nintendo's next step on the path to irrelevance. ETA: It's too bad, sort of, because the Wii U had some cute games. It is a shame that they were stuck in the Nintendo walled garden; Splatoon, or variations on it, could be fun on almost any modern platform. Edited March 22, 2016 by Mr. GOH! TCP
Somewhere GOH, there's an alternate timeline where the Wii and the DS bombed and Nintendo is now third party. You might be thinking that this is the darkest timeline but that's not true the darkest timeline is the one where the Wii U was a huge success.
CorgiShinobi
Somewhere in the dark hollows of the cold wastelands of Canada, TCP is adding the final chapter to his fourth installment of PlayStation erotica novels. This sad news only feeds the lust in his heart for a world where, one day, Pikachu only says "Sony" in the most anime schoolgirl accent of 20XX.
TheMightyEthan
Nintendo has "denied" the report, saying that production will continue at least through the fall. Apparently they don't understand what "this year" means.
