RockyRan
OK, so I think I'm in the middle of a strange process where my brain is re-wiring itself, and it's equal parts of scary and annoying. I think I'm playing TOO much PC gaming, because while I enjoy the up-close-and-personal feeling with playing on my desk with the PC (I seem to be more immersed/involved in the game for some reason), I'm feeling increasingly becoming more fatigued after booting up my PS3 and attempt to play for a reasonable period of time. I feel that my brain is getting TOO used to my closeness to the gaming display, because when I play on my HDTV I tend to get a little motion sickness. This happens especially when I'm playing games that require good reflexes and/or concentration (Wipeout HD, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Super Stardust HD, any racing game really) my eyes feel weird trying to concentrate on a certain object in the screen and my head starts to feel "off". I find myself frequently "resting" my eyes by looking away and out the window. It feels like an issue with my depth perception that starts making me feel nauseous. Worse, the Dualshock 3 and 360 controller is starting to feel weird. Playing good-reflex games results in me gripping my controller too tightly. My thumbs become sore and my hands feel cramped after a good hour or so. And I grew up a console gamer, so this is just feeling too weird. I grew up with an NES, SNES, N64, GC. I owned all three current-gen consoles. I'm more than used to gaming on a couch with a TV and a controller, but I just don't know why it feels so weird now. Most of the time I'm at my desk now, whether it is working on coursework, surfin' da webz and biwinning at TF2, so I feel like my brain is saying that PC monitors look "right" while everything else feels "off", and WASD+mouse is "right" while a controller makes my hands go "WHY HAPPENING?!?!?1?g? E1G?gelkhikOHJAL;H'Z" This is strange. Too strange. I love console gaming, but physically it's becoming more and more of a burden for me. HALP! WHAT DO I DO?? :'(
Yantelope
So just how much time do you spend playing games every day?
deanb
Roughly 1.62hrs a day on PC by the looks of it.
Yantelope
I was seeing that too. Then again he's got 388 hours logged on TF2 so he must play a few hours on there.
Kovach_
Plug in the PS3 to your PC monitor then.

Maybe an hour or two per day (I'm only doing summer school now so I got plenty of freetime. Normally I wouldn't do any playing during weekdays), but for about a year I didn't touch consoles. Now I'm playing them both right about equally and I'm noticing this...disconnect. On 6/9/2011 at 11:50 AM, Kovach_ said: Plug in the PS3 to your PC monitor then. I used to do that when I didn't have my HDTV, but now that I do I'd like to use it for console gaming. It's just a bummer I'm getting weirded out when I do that
SanaEquiesterer
Sit closer to the tv? I don't understand motion sickness, but the first thing that came to mind is that your brain could be getting weirded out with the PS3/360 because you're focusing on a smaller frame with a lot of movement and your peripheral vision sees the stillness of your surroundings. At least that is what I think because it doesn't happen with the PC, where the monitor would take up more peripheral vision. How often are you resting your eyes with the PS3? There are dozens of vision remedies that recommend looking away from the screen after a while. I remember 20/20/20: every 20 minutes take 20 seconds to stare at something about 20 feet away. Or even just get up and do a minor chore about the house to focus on something more close at hand. As for cramping hands, I remember Kotaku reviewing those silly looking foam things you inserted your controller into. They might have been for your wrists or resting your hands more comfortably when playing, though. Look around the net to see if there are third-party comfort peripherals you can get. Or just relax a little?
