Mal
http://gematsu.com/2015/10/sega-trademarks-valkyria-blue-revolution Is the story/tone going to be more like 2 and 3 or more like 1? Mobile or multiplat? Stay tune!
deanb
TIL there's a third. Yeah it'd seem that the PC port revived the series a fair bit. I think a lot of Japanese devs are starting to see PC as a viable place for JRPGs and the like.
toxicitizen
The third one is a PSP exclusive that was never localized, so it's not too surprising that you wouldn't have heard of it. Apparently it's pretty good, or at least better than the second one. I'm still hoping that the success of the PC version has caused Sega to come around and finally localize and port it along with VC2, but that's probably not happening. Besides, their PC port strategy has been kinda weird so far. I mean, VC came out of fucking nowhere and that was great, but was anyone asking for Sonic Lost Worlds or whatever the fuck it's called? No, people were asking for Vanquish and Bayonetta. Edited October 20, 2015 by FHellD
MetalCaveman
Third one is awesome (there's a fan translation available ). In fact, I would hope they skip 2 and bring 3 to PC, though that'll never happen. Having Bayonetta and Vanquish on PC would be awesome too. \m/ \m/ As for that new trademark, I'm hoping console game in the style of the original, but it's most likely going to be mobile and more like 2.
MetalCaveman
http://www.siliconera.com/2015/11/17/valkyria-azure-revolution-announced-for-playstation-4/ Valkyria: Azure Revolution announced for PS4. \m/ \m/ Seems like more of a spin-off than a direct sequel, but still, great news, just hope it gets released here. Also, original original VC is being re-released/remastered for PS4.
toxicitizen
I'm intrigued but it not being an SRPG and not actually taking place in the same world as VC is a major wut move. At least, considering how VC performed on Steam, I think a PC version is likely should the game get localized. So there's that.
Mal
I feel that they could've just gone with a super-prequel. Same world but during the height of Valkyrian tech which maybe started to get buried with the events of this new game. While I am bummed but I'm not overly concerned about this change. Gameplay... bold move to make it real time. It might turn out good. As for the remaster, at the very least VC on PC allows for downsampling. Absolutely gorgeous game when done so. So no real need for changes there though the cutscene could use a sprucing up so hopefully they will redo them and update the PC release. Maybe make them real-time in-engine renders. Going from crisp 60 fps to jaggied 30 fps is kind of jarring.

CorgiShinobi
Not sure if I would double dip for my PS4. I mean, I straight up was dedicated to the game that I mastered it. Not sure I would bother with the same dedication when I have newer un-played games. A shame the in-game trophies were not PlayStation trophies back on PS3. If anyone I know has a PS4 you know I'm going to be recommending it!
Mal
Teaser I can see it now... Ride forth Valkyria for the Holy Mother... who will be the last boss.

CorgiShinobi
So tempted. This game, I've played it already, but it keeps coming back wanting me to relive the glorious wonder of it's being. I stare at my PS3 copy from across the room and contemplate.... MetalCaveman
Valkyria Chronicles 4! https://gematsu.com/2017/11/valkyria-chronicles-4-announced-ps4-xbox-one-switch http://portal.valkyria.jp/new/en/ 2018 for PS4, Switch, Xbox One, possible PC release but I don't think it's been confirmed yet(?). Quote It is the year 1935 EC… The continent of Europa is engulfed in the flames of the Second Europan War between the Atlantic Federation and the Autocratic Eastern Imperial Alliance. Although the Federation struggles valiantly against the Empire’s forces, the relentless imperial military machine threatens to consume them. With victory slipping away, the Federation executes Operation Northern Cross: a last-ditch attempt to capture the imperial capital and end the war. Commander Claude Wallace and his loyal childhood friends in Squad E are sent to fight for the desperate operation’s success, but they will have to endure harsh bone-chilling elements, waves of imperial soldiers, and the terrifying Valkyria… and unravel a grave truth that will shake them to the core. Sounds cool, looking forward to it! \m/ \m/
Mal
So far most of everything looks fine to good. The only bullshit thing is the PS4 time exclusive Japan. PS4 release is March 21st 2018 in Japan, Switch is some time later. Edited November 20, 2017 by Mal
toxicitizen
Lol no mention of PC. That's pretty much what I expected. SEGA Japan don't give a fuck. It's actually a little insulting that even Xbox is getting it, though. But yeah, at this point I have zero expectations from SEGA. It took years just to get Bayonetta and Vanquish. After how well the late port of VC1 sold, if we're not getting VC4 then the people still hoping for Persona and Yakuza are kidding themselves. MetalCaveman
At least it won't be a long wait. There'll probable be a PC version at some point though, just probably way later than console versions.
toxicitizen
I'm honestly not so sure. If a PC release is planned, then there's no reason not to announce it alongside all the other versions. The chance of a port isn't zero but I think it probably depends on whether or not SEGA EU decide to port it down the line. The fact that it's not a no-brainer for the Japanese branch says it all, I think. Just leave it to SEGA to find a way to sour such a great announcement lol. I'm happy we're getting a new proper VC but it's kind of insane to think that Koei Tecmo are actually better at supporting PC than SEGA now. Mal
The Xbox One version seems to be for the West only. The Japanese release date doesn't mention it. But yeah, no PC announcement is just bizarre but as I said in the other thread, I have a Switch so I got this game covered. I probably will give this game a year before I get it just to see if a PC version is anywhere in sight. The Canvas engine is just so damn pretty when you get rid of any aliasing by downsampling. I'd argue it makes VC one of the best anime-styled games* out there. So I want it on PC. * Barring the per-rendered cut scenes. Pre-rendered should go away. Edit: The only mention of PC is in this press release: https://sega.jp/topics/171113_soft_2/ It's in the category it is place under in. It makes me believe just a bit... just like with this announcement. Edited November 20, 2017 by Mal
Mal
Quote Isara Umm... maybe I have my timeline wrong but isn't VC4 after VC1? What happened in VC1 is part of the reason why the offensive happened. So, I think what they are is just tacked on characters in ways similar to Vyse and Aika who are from Skies of Arcadia. To me Vyse and Aika are fine but when ti comes to character from the same universe, it just gets weird. Last game where this happened and which I disliked was in the Neptunia games. DLC though so I guess I can ignore. Edit: DLC is missing Marina. Edited November 20, 2017 by Mal
MetalCaveman
I thought 1, 3 and 4 took place somewhat around the same time, different fronts of the same war and all, though I could be (and probably am) wrong. I don't mind the characters being included since it's DLC stuff that you unlock after clearing the game.
