THE MLB THREAD

I dislike the DH rule. Makes the pitcher less of a man. But, maybe the Cubs will have better success in the AL. And maybe they can get some more rallys together and put up some more runs with a DH. Cubs got a long way to go.

I'd go see them if I were around that area.

I'm heading to Oakland to check the A's out before they /probably/ move to San Jose. My buddy grew up in Oakland. His dad died when he was little. So he has a lot of memories about that stadium with his dad, and he gets the 20 game package every year to go with his brother and sister. I go with him, as well. Him working in athletic marketing, he also has freinds who work in that stadium. It's a real heartbreaker for him that he might never go to that stadium again to see his beloved team.

Cool that you got the The Freak's jersey. Those aren't cheap, and they look sharp.

Though I gotta agree with you that the DH rule is indeed stupid. It's really pathetic when you see a baseball player get hurt because they don't know how to run the bases. That was the last great Steinbrenner rant.

Chien Mien-Wang is playing against the Lastros in Houston when he is forced to run the bases and gets a stress fracture.

Steinbrenner says that making the pitchers pitch is stupid. Every NL team responds with "Your baseball player doesn't know how to run the bases?"

Don't get me wrong, the AL teams should always lead the league in runs scored, but that's what happens when you get a free batter who doesn't have to do anything. It's why the NL should normally have the upper hand when it comes to the World Series.

That is why I hate these interleague games. They disrupt the flow of the season. In addition, it messes with the records of these teams that means a lot when it comes down to the wire.

And, let me put it this way, I would never have a little league team play where the pitcher doesn't get a chance to bat. These are essentially GAMES they play. GAMES that kids love to play. And every part that kids love to do when playing ball is BATTING. Taking that away from the pitcher is dumb. Just plain dumb.

The only differences I love to see are about the ballparks themselves. Is hitting the foul pole a foul or in play (homerun, essentially, if you are hitting the foul pole)? Are the ballparks batter friendly or pitcher friendly? How deep is the deepest part of the outfield and how deep does the centerfielder have to play? These are the only fun things about interleague: seeing the small things.

Damn it! I would have loved to have seen it. I was texting with my buddy about it, and talking about the game with the other guys in the Disney park (all of us checking the score). We could only talk about the score and the stats we get on our phones.

I'm ready to watch a good series though. Verlander is a prime stud, Sandy K style pitcher. He could easily destroy any team. I'm just hoping the G-Men can push around the rest of the pitching staff to compensate.
