Enervation
How does 15 jumps take over an hour? (Maybe I've just forgotten how long it takes to go through that many systems, but over an hour still seems excessive.) It also doesn't make much of a difference what ship you use (unless it's a damn freighter or something, those take ages just to align to wherever they're warping) unless you're traveling through really huge solar systems. If it's just a few AU to warp to, then your ship's warp speed is pretty moot, but if you're traveling 50+ AU to from stargate to stargate THEN I could see how your starter frigate would take a lot longer to get there. Also, were you autopiloting or using "warp to 0m"? Fairly certain I was using warp to 0m, and that it took forever. I do remember jumping around 140+ AU through a single star system. It was quite a distance from the starting zone, and like I said I was using my starting ship (which I had basically stripped of all equipment to put onto the Cormorant) and my energy drives weren't large enough to cover the distance in a single jump. 140+? Maker... That would explain why it took awhile. Sometimes in those desolate systems it can seem like you're warping forever. Yea, I kept thinking I was going to get jumped, but then I look at the sector description and see I'm in a 0.9 zone. Pfft.
Mercurial
You've probably all seen this image, but it's not actually this bad. Short description from wiki. Eve Online (stylised EVE Online) is a video game by CCP Games. It is a player-driven, persistent-world MMORPG set in a science fiction space setting. Characters pilot customizable ships through a galaxy of over 7,500 star systems. Most star systems are connected to one or more other star systems by means of stargates. The star systems can contain moons, planets, stations, wormholes, asteroid belts and complexes. Players of Eve Online can participate in a number of in-game professions and activities, including mining, piracy, manufacturing, trading, exploration, and combat (both player versus environment and player versus player). The character advancement system is based upon training skills in real time, even while not logged into the game. So ya discuss and if you're interested I have 21 day trial buddy codes. MasterDex
I've got an account but I haven't paid for time in it for ages. I keep telling myself I should resubscribe but money's been tight here so I haven't had the opportunity.
TheMightyEthan
Can someone explain to me what's going on with Goonswarm? I know they're attacking the main hub to shut down trade, and that they've stockpiled minerals (presumably so they can sell them at a higher price after shutting down trade?), but there's more to it than that that I don't think I get. deanb
Because they can. And attacking one of the most high profile high-sec areas and potentially crippling the entire economy of EVE would certainly put their name on the map. http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/04/28/nowhere-is-safe-in-eve-online-as-goonswarm-suicide-bombs-galactic-trade-hub/
Mercurial
I wouldn't say cripple, but they probably have a couple of highsec corps scared now.
MasterDex
I wouldn't say cripple, but they probably have a couple of highsec corps scared now. If Jita is still as major a trade hub as it was back when I was playing, you can be certain of it. The likelyhood is that the people with something to really lose will all have stayed in station or offline. You'd be an idiot to risk what you have if you know goonswarm is about. Geck0_k
Ello, m8s! I've been invited by Dean to weigh in on this tread so,.....eh. It's not just the main trade hub. The entire jump route between all three(or four) trade hubs are being picked about and jihad'd. It's not about trade, and the mineral stockpiles were purchased previously in response to CCP removing unique drone mineral drops from Drone anomalies and the so-called Drone Regions. Most of the minerals in the eve economy come from these drops and a massive number of capitals/super capitals were built using this "gun mining". When The Mittani (GoonSwarm Alliance CEO) was running for the Council of Stellar Management(CSM), he had goal milestones and "prizes" announced for reaching these. Reaching 10k votes was what put "Burn Jita" into action. After he was thrown under the bus by CCP for comments made at the Alliance Panel during fanfest, Burn Jita took on another meaning. Because of what those that had grudges against GSF, The Mittani, and nullsec in general; Burn Jita became a way to extract massive amount of carebear tears and wreck havoc in supposedly "safe" hisec. It's something akin to class warfare. For many years, most Nullsec alliances payed no heed to CSM activities. Due to not having a voice in this process; nullsec had been on the end of some downright disgusting nerfs while watching hisec get buffed. During CSM 5, they went too far. After nerfing the npc bounties and spawns in hisec, and then nerfing jump bridges(jump bridges allow nullsec residents to bypass gates, and travel good distance in short time through vast networks from their alliance and other coalition members), enough was enough. Nullsec put their candidates forth, and voted with superior numbers and organization. This was also during the time of the infamous "monoclegate"(enough has been said on this elsewheres, os go look it up), and the complete loss of focus on the "flying in space"(FiS), toward "walking in stations"(Wis) and ambulation. Moving away from just an avatar, and actually becoming actual people, interacting in environments other than just ships in space. This was also during development of "World of Darkness", an MMO based on Vampire: The Masquerade, and the WiS portion of eve was chided as little more than beta testing of the Carbon Engine for WoD. Back to the important parts: The rise of NullSec CSM. Under Chairman Mittani, FiS was thrust solely in the forefront for CCP. Eve was seeing an unprecedented amount of welcomed balances, and new ships as well. A lot of people didn't enjoy the fact that this wall all due to competent nullsec players; let alone from a Goon, and went about slandering and chastising anything and everything that came from it. After CSM 6 and with voting finished for CSM7(which The Mittani won his Chair again), he got wasted at fanfest during the Alliance Panel, said some off-hand remarks heard everyday by plenty of people in game, and was nailed to a cross for it. A massive campaign...a machine was put into action. The same type of publicity campaign that worked to get CCP to change direction and focus on FiS in eve; was now being used to completely derail and remove The Mittani from the CSM, and Eve. The Mittani apologised, owned up to his words, and resigned CSM 6, as well as his forthcoming CSM 7 chairmanship. Due to the pressure CCP was under, they felt it necessary to remove him for CSM 7 completely, and banned him for 30 days. GSF, and all their allies were out for blood, and already had a date: April 28th. It's rather entertaining that the economic rebalancing would come as this is scheduled. Along wiht all the shifts in the market, the nullsec entities that have control of Technitium(only available in nullsec, required for tech two ships building) would announce the formation of OTEC, or Organization of Technetium Exporting Corporations. The squeeze is being put to those who have no clue how much force and control those of us on the outside can exert in their "safe" little world. And after everyone is finished in hisec, they can fade back to null and continue to take care of our own organizations. I'll take any questions you guys have, and try to answer them to the best of my abilities.
MasterDex
I just picked up the 30 month sub to Eve on steam - €6.80 until later today. It's a shame I wasn't allowed to apply the month to my old account but it might be nice starting all over again after so long. If I get hooked again, I can always double-box, it's not as if that would be totally economically ridiculous right now! But hey! I've stopped buying weed so some money has freed up and I need a new addiction anyway! Anyone do the same with this deal? Or will I be alone in the void? Mercurial
I am still playing dunno for how much longer though let my alt expire and my main only has another week. Might buy some plex or something next friday. Edited May 29, 2012 by Hakidia
MasterDex
Your playing for a while now though, right? Chances are anything I might want some help with would be far too below your level to bother with. Hell I'd say even if I renew my old account, you're well ahead as well, lol. Still, that being said, I might pester you for some advice now and again. I've got EveMon and EveHQ updated, anything other apps worth getting? All I have to do now is wait for all these updates to install. Freaking Steam version only downloaded Incarna so I've been sitting through the updates from the launcher for the past couple of hours. Mercurial
Nah I just started up again a month or so ago and the alt was on a 21 day trial cause my old character was basically ruined when I last stopped playing. If you got an android phone Aura is pretty good though it pesters you with mails and when ever your skill queue is low. MasterDex
Up and running! Will have my old account back up on Wednesday. For android, I downloaded Evanova, does the job for me. Myself and Senor Bloodaxe were talking about getting a PXOD corp started. Any interested parties? I'm going to go out on a limb here and say Dean has first dibs on being Corp Leader if he wishes. Excel_Excel should be joining us in Eve tomorrow. Also, if anyone wants to join us, we can send out some 21-day buddy invites so let us know here. Geck0_k
So, here's the deal: Jon has a corp up currently(Good Man.) and you all are invited to join. Throw in an app and I'll be sure to get things rolling.

MasterDex
Where abouts is it? Anything worth anything in there? Also, why are you getting rid of your character? Why not keep them going in case you want to come back later down the road? Edited June 9, 2012 by MasterDex
deanb
I'm not getting rid of the character, I'm closing the account. I'll potentially still come back to it in the future.
Mal
EVE is a game that will always be dear to my heart even though I never played it. What goes down in that game is quite legendary. Every so often one big alliance or another performs a major offensive that can involve hundreds if not thousands of players through an entire week, something even longer, of battles and skirmishes. Then of course you got the occasional butterfinger, who is entrusted by the alliance/group, in charge of a Titan who jump himself only instead of the whole fleet which usually ignites a sudden battle as opposing factions comes to kill it and the butterfinger's alliance come to defend it.
Connorrrr
I showed that trailer to my other half, it was so cool. I've never played EVE online but it always fascinated me. I never will play it, either. I do not have the patience to learn a game so complex. Hats off to those that are deep in it though.
deanb
https://community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs/introducing-clone-states-and-the-future-of-access-to-eve-online/ They're rolling out a free account level. Sort of inevitable I guess, and welcome too. Wouldn't mind having a pop back in to EVE.
