Yeah, most games didn't actually use it, which is why they did away with it, but both the DS3 and 360 pad had pressure sensitive face buttons.  I can't find anything on whether the Xbone has analog face buttons or not.

I went to a Fry's electronics today and was able to hold both an Xbox one controller and a PS4 controller. The Xbox One controller is smaller than the 360, and the shape fills my palms less. The new Xbox button and placement are great, but other than that its pretty much a smaller tighter feeling controller from the 360.

The PS4 on the other hand felt the best. It alone made me pine for a PS4. It was nice and felt good. The triggers turned me off a bit, until I grabbed a 360 and Xbox One controller right after and realized there is nothing different minus the width of them. It felt so good in my hands, although I would have liked the controller to be a tad bit bigger, but only for pure aesthetics reasons.

The PS4 instantly became my favorite controller I've ever held and I would consider it to be the best controller of all time!

I'd still say it's pretty much on par with the 360 controller for my normal usage, but that's actually really high praise coming from me.

If I'm being really analytical the better d-pad on the DS4 over the 360 controller would push it over the edge, but I play things that use the d-pad so infrequently that it's not really a factor for me.

So I finally held an Xbone controller and it was rather strange.  First of all, it felt super light and kind of fragile.  Maybe that's because it was plugged in instead of using batteries but I can't imagine batteries would add that much weight.  The d-pad was better than the old one, although I still prefer the DS4 where it's four separate buttons instead of a cross.  Face buttons mostly felt the same.  The weird part for me was that the sticks and triggers, two things I readily admit the previous Xbox had over the PS3, actually felt worse.  The sticks themselves felt extremely loose, even more so than the dualshock 3 did.  There was almost no resistance from them whatsoever.  The triggers also felt like they'd been hollowed out and filled with air or something.  I know there's rumble in the triggers now so maybe it's different when you actually play a game, but I was just holding the controller for the sake of holding it so I don't know.

Has anyone else held one of these controllers?  I'm not sure if the one I got my hands on was messed up somehow or if this is how it's supposed to feel, but if my experience is normal then it baffles me why Microsoft would change the parts of the controller that really didn't need to be fixed in the first place.  Except for the d-pad it actually felt worse.

I felt the same way about the Xbox One controller when I grabbed it. Luckily there was a 360 kiosk right next to it so I swapped back and fourth. The Xbox One sticks feel equally as resistant as the 360, and same with the triggers, just compared to the PS4 they feel inadequate.

You may have had a broken controller :/

Wow, I'm kind of impressed with how much worse MS made the Xbone controller.  The 360 controller was nearly perfect, why did they change it?  The sticks are looser and it doesn't feel nearly as comfortable in my hand.

*Edit* - Also, AA batteries?  In fucking 2014?  What the fuck?

They're not just a ton looser, but I definitely noticed as soon as I picked it up (and then immediately compared to a 360 controller to confirm).  It's not like they ruined it or anything, it's just every change is for the worse (except the clickier d-pad) so I can't figure out why they would have done it.

Have you had a long time to play with it/do you own an Xbox One? My first impressions were that it was an improvement but as you get used to a controller certain quirks may become apparent.

A wee size comparison.

When plugging into a PC it loads up as a "Hori Mini4" rather than a DS4 so that might throw stuff off. I guess I can update on that.

edit: update, minor test seems it doesn't get detected same way a DS4 does. Though yet to test with DS4Windows (which it turns out in moving my folders around means I've not gotten that installed anymore to test).
