CorgiShinobi
All the way through? Not going to judge or anything, and I do realize it's not for everyone.
Mister Jack
Yeah, I played it all the way through. It's not a "game" in the traditional sense, but I'm sure I don't have to tell any of you that. I'm not sure what words to use to describe it, though. On second thought, I think a better way to describe how I'm feeling is I'm not sure what criteria I should be using to judge a game like this. deanb
When it throws in Flow n Flower it's more of a "ThatGameCompany Collectors Edition" than a Journey one, though I guess Journey is the game on folks lips of late. Good that it does come with the other two though cos if $15 for a 2hr game was hard to swallow $30 won't have been any better There's also a trial out at some point cos I grabbed it other day. Yet to play though.
Strangelove
Yeah I know, but theyre putting those other games as bonuses to compliment Journey instead of a Thatgamecompany trilogy. I guess theyre name doesnt carry much weight.....yet.
danielpholt
Just a shame this will never come to a platform I own. I'm not going to buy a PS3 for this and Uncharted, so I'll never play this, unless Sony decide to put it on pc.
TCP
Then buy a PS3 for the inFamous games, The Last of Us, and LittleBigPlanet games. Also see Resistance, Jak, Ratchet, Sly, God of War, and the countless other exclusive titles. Considering how well the PS3 has sold in recent years, none of these games are coming to PC anytime soon. This compilation doesn't surprise me (though, it's a tad bit silly that flOw and Flower are "bonus" games), Journey is one of the best selling PSN games. Unfortunately I think most people interested in these sorts of games, probably already have Journey and Flower. Yeah I know, but theyre putting those other games as bonuses to compliment Journey instead of a Thatgamecompany trilogy. I guess theyre name doesnt carry much weight.....yet. Even the Ico/SotC collection wasn't called "The Team Ico Collection". Edited June 26, 2012 by TheCowboyPoet
Strangelove
This is a collector's edition meant for fans of the games honestly. It has tons of extras that the regular person who hasn't played any of Thatgamecompany's games wouldnt care about. I think a lot of people are going to double dip. Luckily, theres a lot of content here for 30 bucks. If I have money by then, Im definitely getting it. Also, Journey is the best selling PSN game ever. From what I hear though this might be their last exclusive game since their contract with Sony has expired. I doubt Journey or Flower will ever get ported, but Thatgamecompany will go multiplatform or Sony will buy their exclusivity again. Theyve said that Sony basically lets them do whatever they want, so there's that.
TCP
Yeah, Flow/Flower/Journey will remain exclusives to Sony, but it'll be interesting what happens to the next Thatgamecompany game. I really wish Sony would just purchase them, but maybe with their current financial troubles, they can't?
Strangelove
I dont think Thatgamecompany wants to be bought. Same thing with the people who made Ico. Theyre just contracted to make exclusives, but once thats done theyre free to do whatever they want. Same with Insomniac. Also, Flow is on the PC I think. Thats not exclusive. To be honest, all Sony and MS should care about is games not being on the other system. Let PC gamers play everything I say. Third party exclusives anyways, not the first party stuff. TCP
The staff producing the Ico games are Sony employees, the only thing is Ueda left the company, but is finishing Last Guardian as a contractor.

TCP
Then get rid of the GameCube, you essentially have another with your Wii!
danielpholt
It's a new Wii, Cube games won't run on it. Maybe if Sony are nice they'll give us backwards compatibility on the ps4, that or a PSN version that works on the new system.
TCP
I totally forgot that some new Wii's don't play GCN games. That's crazy!
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, I think the era of backward compatibility was short lived and is now past.
TCP
At least the PS3/360 will be in HD so in 5 years they won't look like garbage, unlike every other pre-HD console nowadays. I won't have a problem leaving my PS3 plugged in if the Orbis doesn't have BC, at least, not for the first few years. I imagine it'll be like the PS3 and still be supported for awhile.
Mercurial
Ya I don't see PS3->Orbis as big a leap as PS2->PS3 so I doubt they won't have BC.
TheMightyEthan
I'd be quite surprised if they have BC unless they keep the same architecture and can run PS3 games natively. Keeping Cell seems unlikely though.
deanb
I don't see why they wouldn't have the Cell. They've invested in the architecture and it's worked out pretty well in giving them some degree of an edge over 360 titles too. Cheaper to continue than to throw R&D on a new platform. And they also get the boon of backwards compatibility which may or may not regain a bit of lost faith in that dept (And even though it was scrapped in later models they have made a point of having BC on their consoles at least at launch). If it's built direct into the main chip, instead of extra chips like it was for PS2 on PS3, then it's something that is both pretty much free for Sony, and also no fear of it being removed later on. Strangelove
I dont know much about this stuff, but wasnt the cell the problem? Isnt that why developers complained about it being hard to develop for? Youd think theyd want to go a different and easier route this time. From what I hear the Vita is supposed to be extremely easy to develop for because of the problems with the PS3. At most I thought they would add the cell in the PS4 for backwards compatibility like the early PS3's had the emotion engine built in for PS2 backwards compatibility. TheMightyEthan
The cell gave them a slight tech advantage in first-party titles, but overall it was a liability because it made it a PITA for third-party developers and the PS3 versions of multiplats suffered as a result. I don't see Sony making that mistake again. Moving away from the cell doesn't mean they'd have to R&D their own architecture all over again. There are architectures out there, you know. There's no reason they couldn't use PowerPC (like 360 does) or x86 or anything else. *Edit* - All of that said, Cell in a PS4 would be less of a liability than it was in PS3 because devs have gotten used to working with it now. deanb
Yeah the Cell was an issue early on, though Naughty Dog knocked out the Edge Library which has helped. It also provided a differentiator that has allowed their first party titles have an edge. While Sony has gernally had pretty good relationships with third parties I don't think they'd cede control of their platforms features completely to them. If it was to just up n have the same processor as the next Xbox (though the GPU n API would still be different cos DirectX) then it loses on a unique differentiator. And PS3 n 360 were pretty slim in features this gen so going PPC(I still laugh at X86 in a console) would make the similarities even closer. The initial cost of R&D and programming difficulty were pretty much the only issues with the Cell, and both of those are now pretty much wiped out. With multi-core programmers now much more available and GPGPU too, a many-core CPU-come-GPU chip has quite a lot going for it. Vita has an ARM chip in it, pretty much the exact same as most phones out there apart from the recently announced Intel Atom phone. So yeah programming for it is pretty simple when there's a massive deluge of ARM programming of recent years. (Cell came out just as multi-core and GPGPU was starting up, cutting edge as it were. A lot of PS3 was a bit too cutting edge for it's own good and...sony got cut... )
