(I wasn't sure if this belonged here or in something like off-topic, but I figured it fit more here. But feel free to move it if you think otherwise)

Alright, so last night I played the Catherine demo and decided I had no choice but to once more dig into my collection and sell stuff in order to buy it.

Most of the PS3 games I have left I want to keep so this time I dug into my PS2 collection. Here's what I've got so far. Some of it I'm planning to put on eBay while the rest is likely to end up at the pawn shop.

So yeah, I'd like to know what you guys think. Some of these have HD collections either already out or on the way, so I'm not really sure how much demand there would be for them.

Any input would be appreciated, even "That's won't sell" or "ARE YOU INSANE?! DON'T SELL THAT!!".

So here's the titles and their condition

None of these are greatest hits, btw.

These are the ones I'm thinking of putting on eBay

PS1: Final Fantasy VIII (used)

Final Fantasy IX (used)

Chrono Cross (used)

PS2: Ratchet & Clank (used but mint condition)

Ratchet & Clank Going Commando (new and still sealed)

Ratchet & Clank Up Your Arsenal (new and still sealed)

Ratchet: Deadlocked (new and still sealed)

Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus (used but mint condition)

Sly 2: Band of Thieves (new and still sealed)

Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves (unsealed but never played)

Zone of the Enders w/ MGS2 demo (used but mint condition)

God of War (used but mint condition)

God of War II (used but mint condition)

And here's what I'm thinking of sending to the pawn shop because I don't imagine there's going to be much demand for it on eBay. If I get about 30 bucks for this lot, I'll be happy.

Star Ocean: First Departure (PSP)

Resident Evil 5 (PS3)

GTA: Liberty City Stories (PS2)

GTA: Vice City Stories (PS2)

(the next few ones are all PS2 box sets)

Call of Duty Legacy (Finest Hour & Big Red One)

Resident Evil: The Essentials (RE4, CVX, Outbreak 1)

Devil May Cry 5th Anniversary Collection (1,2,3)

GTA Trilogy (III, VC, SA)

Honestly I think those are safe bets to sell and here's why

there's already a Sly HD collection which is actually done well.

GoW has a collection.

A Ratchet collection should hit us sometime in 2012-13.

DMC collection is all but announced so you can wait for it. The GTAs might be worth getting digitally for the Vita. The FFs (7-9) are better off buying through the store when they're cheaper.

Chrono Cross - I might hang on to it for a bit in terms of value and Star Ocean as well because they're not out digitally and could go for a bit. Same with RE: Essentials unless you want to buy the box from Japan which pretty much has most of it.

Well, that's the thing. The fact that most of these have collections either already out or coming soon is why I'm not sure whether or not I'll be able to sell them at a reasonable price.

I mean, on eBay, your auction has a better chance of being noticed if your starting price is 0,99$.

But if there's little demand for it, you run the risk of someone snatching it for the minimum price, which kind of sucks :/

Well put it this way it is a bit of a gamble but don't sell them all together just do it in bits and pieces. It's the best way to get your money's worth. For instance I bought the GTA4 collection on steam and sold Episodes from Liberty CIty (the 360 version) and made £12 off of it (the collection cost me £6.4). Then I thought hmm, why on earth do I need vanilla GTA4 on the PS3 anyway and expected that to go for cheap but it went for guess what another £11. So that was basically £23 which was way more than what I'd for the Episodes and the steam bit put together (not GTA4 though since that was still in the 20s) so all in all I thought that was fair. If you can manage to sell your games such that you can definitely get a profit go for it.

The way I usually sell stuff on ebay is I look at what I want to sell goes for and put up low bid and a buyout price that I'm comfortable with and often I get the buyout price with great ease. I also only usually do 1 day deals. Weekends are your best bet because more people tend to buy stuff on weekends and prices get inflated. Also the time you place your auction does matter. Auctions placed that end when people are free usually sell better. From my experience between 400pm and 530pm is a good time (since people start browsing random shit before they leave work), 1200 is not bad as well. Bids that end between 730 and 900pm are great because everyone tries to buy stuff at that time.

There's a corelation here. The time when people finish eating is also the time they decide to do some heavy bidding. It may sound strange but that's what I've seen from my experience.

All I can say is older stuff might be harder sell but it's all about timing, visibility and demand on the market. Worse comes to worst you can do a batch sell but they usually don't give the best results and selling multiple items simultaneously doesn't always yield the best results.

Well I wasn't planning on selling everything as one lot, if that's what you meant.

But I was thinking of selling the Sly games together, the Ratchet games together, etc.

Good advice about the timing, though. I usually end up making my listings late at night, which now that you mention it is probably not the best way to go about it.

I think I'll put a few of them up right now and see how it goes.

Doesn't Gamestop have credit trade? Why not just trade them in there and buy Catherine with your credit?

I don't really go to Gamestop. It's not that I boycott them or anything like that, though. There just isn't one in my immediate area and I buy most of my videogames on Amazon.ca anyway. Going out of my way to Gamestop whenever I buy or sell something would be more of a hassle than it's worth.

Glad you liked Catherine, but a couple of questions.

You planning on buying Catherine Regular or Deluxe?

Do you have any fund massed at all so far? If so how much more 'til you reach your goal?

Regular. Even if I do manage to get enough for Deluxe, the extra cash would be better used on something else.

Deluxe is nice and all but I honestly can't say I need a pizza box and some boxers :P

And so far I have no funds at all. I had resigned myself to waiting a few months before getting the game, but the demo ruined those plans, so this is kind of a last minute desperate effort. I'll very likely be getting enough cash to cover half the game next month, so even if I can't get the whole 60 bucks now it's not that bad, but I was kind of hoping to be able to get it in time for me to get the pre-order soundtrack and art book!
