Chronixal
Please note, this is only applicable to UK users. Following in the wake on the BBC iPlayer, the itv and 4oD catch-up service is now available on PS3. From a quick first glance, the 4oD service is much better quality than itv's. It's as close to broadcast quality as I can notice whereas itv's is noticeably pixelated and compressed, especially so during the advertisements. Still, nice to have them both now. Using it now to finally see Tramadol Nights which I missed initially.
jayc4life
FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU Again Ireland looks like it's getting shafted, despite being able to receive these channels normally. Hopefully not though, I can get 4OD on YouTube so they'd be dumbasses to region lock it on PS3. Don't know about ITV.
deanb
@Jay For ITV you're screwed. This is the first time they've put their service on a 3rd party device (so no youtube), others being the Virign Media box. (which apparently they don't consider 3rd party, I guess cos it does TV already?) This is all pretty cool. Hope it's more than the iPlayer thing which is just a bookmark stuck on the XMB. I'd hoped for am ore fully featured client. Especially now most PS3s have chunk hard drives that stuff could be downloaded to. I've used ITV's catchup thing in the past to watch Primeval and it's very low quality. Certainly not broadcast. 4OD's has always being good, with iPlayer coming out crème of the crop. I guess I'll boot the PS3 up later. Is it requiring an update or a download from the store?
Chronixal
Nah, they'll just appear on the XMB under the iPlayer icon. You're right though, they appear to just be links rather than a proper client. I really really shocked at just how poor itv's offering is. It's sub SD quality. Although it must be said, there's fuck all on itv worth watching at the best of times.
jayc4life
Yep, links. And as again, despite me using my aunt's postcode in London, nothing will load for me (Really? You'll geo-lock stuff anyway even AFTER asking me for a postcode? Not just me that sees that as an absolutely pointless waste of 5 seconds typing it in if it's going to auto-determine my location anyway?). Thursday Next
From what I can tell you don't get 4oD's full library. Only the "catch up" stuff. Which is ok I guess, but I was hoping to have an on demand Peep Show marathon.
jayc4life
Yeah it's only the stuff they have "on-demand" rights to. Which obviously means nothing that's licensed from foreign networks and the like. The icon for it isn't on my XMB yet, only ITV and BBC (my primary PSN account's actually English however I managed that, it explains why I have them)
Thursday Next
Apparently Peep Show isn't on the PS3 version. It is on the web version. If it's only gonna let me watch stuff for 30days after broadcast then that's a touch disappointing. I'm at work at the mo, but will check it out later. Chronixal
Yeah, the selection is pretty sparse. In fact, all 3 are services are really. I don't know if it's a bandwidth issue or half-arsery but it's a bit disappointing. I was hoping to go through and watch season 2 of The Inbetweeners
Dayvie
From what I can tell you don't get 4oD's full library. Only the "catch up" stuff. Which is ok I guess, but I was hoping to have an on demand Peep Show marathon. I was disappointed in this also. 4oD online has the entire back catalogue of The IT Crowd, Black Books, and the like - I was gutted when I couldn't find them on the Playstation. Although, I have enjoyed catching up on The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret.
