TheFlyingGerbil
I downloaded my free games today and found the process was really easy and quick to complete. Overall, I'm pleased with the games offered. I certainly think they chose a good selection - you can't say they fobbed you off with second rate tat. I don't think they could have done anything more (except release it at that price to begin with!)
excel_excel
Yeah the NES list is alright, and you'll be getting the 'upgraded' versions for free when Nintendo releases the NES titles on the eshop. The GBA list is far more appealing, every single game they've announced so far for it is a classic. Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 Mario Kart: Super Circuit Metroid Fusion WarioWare, Inc.: Minigame Mania Mario vs. Donkey Kong Still no way for European owners to register their DS if they couldn't access the eshop before the 12th of last month though....YOUR TEARING ME APART NINTENDO
TheFlyingGerbil
were you not online at all before the 12th? if you set up your friend code before then or updated the system software you should be registered too

RockyRan
Apparently, the rumored "second joystick" attachment is real. http://blog.esuteru.com/archives/4734766.html Wut.
BrainHurtBoy...2
That is so horrible. Will this be successful? God, it just looks so ugly! I was planning to buy a 3DS next month, but now, there's no chance. I'm waiting for the inevitable built-in second analog version. Can it even fit in a pocket? Jesus! Strangelove
What the fuck are they seriously thinking? I cant even imagine buying a 3DS any time soon now. Not when it has to look like that. They need to get their shit together quick.

Another one of the strong speculations (the same one, in fact, that foretold of the second analog add-on) is that Ninty plans on releasing a redesign with the stick built-in. Mal
To mirror the response from the link... wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww This news makes me sad and scared for Nintendo since they drove themselves off the road so much. TheFlyingGerbil
that... thing... is awful. If they bring out a new redesigned console I will not be happy. If they give all existing customers a free add on pad I will not be happy. If they offer all existing customers a new redesigned console and move all their games over I will still not be happy. This fiasco just shows that they had no confidence in the 3DS hardware to begin with so they shouldn't have released it. You may not have liked the power or design of older consoles but you always felt that Nintendo released what they wanted to and had solid reasons for their decisions. They just seem to have completely lost their way and I can't help but have lost a little faith in them. I actually feel more sad than angry. deanb
From what I can tell it looks like an add-on. The headline itself paints it as an add-on for Monster Hunter, so not a new console design.
DarkMalice
I don't understand this move! Are they trying to alienate everyone that's already bought this thing? Seven or so months ago the 3DS launched, and now they tell you that you can't play every game announced for it. You gotta pay more money to buy an extra slide pad attached to an inflatable lifeboat so you can play. Meanwhile, everyone without a 3DS is just gonna wait until they make a redesign with the second stick already built in.
Yantelope
Nintendo needs to just suck it up and crank out a new unit with dual thumbsticks.
Thursday Next
Nintendo do seem determined to totally wind up their early adopters: 1: Release with not much good software. 2: Drop price by 100 bucks. 3: Make device obsolete. Genius play.
deanb
I don't think they're doing it on purpose. I think this is Nintendo at the moment and the past couple of years: and it's going to start costing them big time. Both their next gen products have next to no differentiation with their previous product (that's where a 1, 2, 3 naming system comes in handy) leading to mass consumer confusion, never mind what's going on within Nintendo. I don't think they know why the Wii and DS have done so amazingly well, tbh I don't think anyone does. And they're trying to capture it all over again. Give it a decade and they'll be rubbing shoulders with Sega. As I said to LewieP: Super Smash Brothers: Kinect is not a long way off. Oh and if the Vita is launching (at least in Japan) for this Xmas, and retaining it's $250 price then Nintendo really need to move fast, and with good PR, on this thumbstick business. I think the Vita caught them off guard quite a bit.
excel_excel
I'm a bit perplexed...well I don't really know what to make of this second thumbstick. It certainly seems Nintendo themselves have no games coming out that take advantage of it. Super Mario 3D land has a fixed perspective, Mario Kart never uses a additional thumbstick. There is no need for this, in anything other than a Monster Hunter A GAME THAT HAS THRIVED ON A PLATFORM WITH ONLY ONE ANALOGUE STICK. If you ask me just using your right thumb on the touchscreen to move the camera or whatever makes more sense then this. I don't think this is the end of Nintendo though. In Japan they'll suck up Monster Hunter 3DS by the truckload. And the 3DS is still selling more than the DS did at this point in its lifespan. They won't I'd wager. Monster Hunter will still be playable without this thing I'd imagine
Yantelope
Yes, generally you say that it's not required, much like the 360 didn't require a hard drive but it really helps if you have one.
excel_excel
I wouldn't compare it to the harddrive at all. You need that to download arcade titles and DLC and everything else. This is for one game right now, and that's a game that might not even be released in the west
Thursday Next
Either loads of devs will support it and it will be practically a necessity like a DualShock controller on a PS1, in which case it will be loathed by early adopters as the thing that forced them to buy the 3DS 1.5. Or, no one will support it, in which case it will be an expensive ball and chain to strap to your 3DS when you want to play MH. I'm thinking that this wouldn't even exist if Ninty didn't intend it to become the norm. I wouldn't be surprised if the price drop was in part to pave the way for $250 3DSDS (3DS DualStick).

excel_excel
http://ie.ds.ign.com.../1193360p1.html despite all this, sales up 260% for August. For a console with no 'new' killer apps yet, that ain't too bad. I smell another Wiimotion Plus which would be okay to be honest. How many games actually utilize Motion Plus? if that is what the fate of the 2nd stick thingamijig will be then, ok, less shit for me to lug around! In fact its been confirmed Monster Hunter Tri RANDOM LETTER 3DS will work without the 2nd stick.
