Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
Will I understand the book if I never finished KOTOR? Keywork
There’s something out there: a juggernaut of evil bearing down to crush the Republic— unless one lone Jedi, shunned and reviled, can stop it.  Revan: hero, traitor, conqueror, villain, savior. A Jedi who left Coruscant to defeat Mandalorians—and returned a disciple of the dark side, bent on destroying the Republic. The Jedi Council gave Revan his life back, but the price of redemption was high. His memories have been erased. All that’s left are nightmares—and deep, abiding fear.  What exactly happened beyond the Outer Rim? Revan can’t quite remember, yet can’t entirely forget. Somehow he stumbled across a terrible secret that threatens the very existence of the Republic. With no idea what it is, or how to stop it, Revan may very well fail, for he’s never faced a more powerful and diabolic enemy. But only death can stop him from trying.   Straight from Amazon, it sums up his life and the first game aswell as what happened between this and SWTOR if i remember right so yeah. You dont have to play the first one if you just wanna read this.  P.S. If anyone is NA and is looking to join The Empire i have a guild setup and a few members who are gonna be ready out the gate for the game, click here to apply*Everyones accepted here if they just mention PXoD*. Gonna be PVE Focused but PVP may come as well since we are not sure of our playerbase just yet. I got years upon years of GM experience aswell as Raid lead, if you are curious about my experiences just send me a PM. Pirandello
Are each of the respective faction's classes locked to that faction? Â I've been talking with some friends who are jumping into the game when it starts, but they're rolling Sith, and I want to roll a Trooper (specifically, Commando. Armor and guns! Armor and guns!), but I'm pretty sure Troopers are Republic-only...

The SW books usually do a good job of outlining what events happened previously and explaining things. But, that does vary from author to author. I've been looking forward to this book for a year now. This is what I will be reading and re-reading through the holidays.

deanb
So they wisely left the price off the date announcement: 1 Month Subscription: $14.99 (£8.99/€12.99) 3 Month Subscription: $13.99 per month (one-time charge of $41.97/£25.17/€35.97) 6 Month Subscription: $12.99 per month (one-time charge of $77.94/£46.14/€65.94) http://www.swtor.com...rticle/20110924
TheMightyEthan
That's the same as WoW... Â And I was actually going to post this even before I read Dean's post, but who wants to take bets on how long this will be before going free to play? deanb
A year at most. How do you compete with free?
TheMightyEthan
Dunno, you'll have to ask Blizzard.
deanb
Blizzard? The company that forced the hand of pretty much every other MMO on the market into becoming free? Â If EA Think they can take an existing and fairly popular IP and churn out an MMO to compete with WoW then we only have to skip back in time 3 years ago to Warhammer Online. Hocking
Â Yes, classes are faction locked. You can however, roll characters from either faction on the same server. So you could roll Trooper and a Sith class on the same server as your friends. Alternatively, you could roll Bounty Hunter as a Sith - the mirror class for the Trooper. Unlike SWG, that doesn't involve hunting other players. Â who wants to take bets on how long this will be before going free to play? Â I don't think it will. The MMOs that tend to go free are the ones that are generally lacklustre in content and thus can't hold subscribers. That said, Bioware have both their own fan base as well as the Star Wars fan base to draw subscribers from. As many negative views of Star Wars Galaxies there are floating around about the NGE changes, SWG has managed to keep quite a nice cluster of paying customers despite that fact it has extremely generic content. Â The Old Republic even broke EAs own record for global pre-orders in the first week of them going live.
TheMightyEthan
Blizzard? The company that forced the hand of pretty much every other MMO on the market into becoming free? Right, that's what I'm saying. WoW costs money competes with free just fine.

Star Wars is not "fairly popular". Comparing Star Wars to Warhammer is like comparing Lord of the Rings to A Song of Ice and Fire.  Or like comparing it to DC Comics like I did a while back? (maybe in the DC comics thread). Though talking of Lord of the Rings...  Star Wars is not some mythical IP that is totally immune to flopping at the shadpow of WoW or the market forces of being infinitely more expensive than most other MMO's on the market.  Blizzard? The company that forced the hand of pretty much every other MMO on the market into becoming free? Right, that's what I'm saying. WoW costs money competes with free just fine.  And what I'm saying is that it's WoW that forced the other MMOs to go free. TOR is not immune to this fate. Most previews painting it as a pretty lacklustre game don't really help much either. Much of TORs popularity hinges upon it being the Star Wars IP and the name of a popular studio.
TheMightyEthan
I agree that TOR will probably go free. In fact I'm the one that first asked how long people think it will last... Â I'm confused, what are we even supposed to be arguing about? I just said "Ask Blizzard" because you asked how to compete with free, and as far as I can tell Blizzard is the only one succeeding... deanb
But WoW is a total anomaly though. I doubt even Titan would hit the same amount as success, and I'm sure Blizzard have said as much themselves. Â There's not really any quantifiable and simple way of duplicating WoWs success. The only way to beat WoW is be WoW.
deanb
Holy-sheet an actual in-game trailer.
excel_excel
That looked.......extremely average. I have a feeling behind the scenes EA have planned the Free2play change from the beginning, and have all the prices and content all planned out at what cost, so when the Free2play change comes they can just flip a switch and it'll go off without a problem. Thorgi Duke of Frisbee
Though tbh, what modern MMO developed today doesn't have that sort of pre-planning?
Enervation
That trailer was so average it makes monotony seem like double rainbows. The real clincher was when all those soldiers were running out of the dropship, and all of their movements were perfectly in sync with each other. Ugh. One of my pet peeves.

jimmuhpage
Giant beta testing weekend. One server listed. Full. Wait time: 3 hours. Â Â More than likely won't purchase the game anyway, so this would have been the only way I would have at least played it for a bit. Got better things to do this weekend.
