I haven't played a Madden game in years and I've never really been into it but my football itch has been really bad this year so I couldn't resist. I think what shocked me most is just how many graphical glitches and ugly things happen in the presentation. I mean, the animations and things of the characters isn’t bad. If anything that’s probably one of the better things in the game. I think it’s the whole presentation that sucks so bad. The announcers are worthless and sometimes there’s just a long period of dead air. It’s all the worse since I’ve been playing MLB 11 the show and the announcers make comments that are surprisingly apt to what just happened in the game. Then it’s the fact that the exact same intro animations play for every single game. There’s no variety. In MLB The Show you get a brief overview of the field, the talk about the weather, they run down who the umpires are and they talk about a few of the players. In Madden I have to hear the same “Tony Romo has the quickest release” every single game without fail. They even pop up the scoring drive summary on a pick 6 and it's just blank. It seems like it’s the first Madden game ever. I simply can’t believe that over the last 6 years they haven’t been able to build up a long line of intros, animations etc. On top of that the level of detail just isn’t comparable to MLB the show. I don’t know if it’s a fair comparison but it’s one I can’t help but make. The actual football itself isn't bad so I guess that's good and it's not a bad game it just seems to me that EA knows they've got a monopoly and so they spend as little money as possible maintaining it. There's about a million rants about Madden but I guess what surprised me was that it wasn't the football itself that was lacking but the whole presentation. I really thought that EA would at least pretend like they're putting in some effort. I mean, if you had a character talking on a phone and the cord wasn't even attached to the phone but flying out in space on any other game reviewers would be talking about how rushed and glitchy it is. There was no liveblog either of my Bears in the demo this year. Partly because I had no PC at the time. Maybe I SHOULD create a real-time reaction thread like last time... YES.... YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
