MasterDex
I've recently got the games again and with the help of the BigWorld mod, I'm playing through the entirety of the series in one go. It's great to go back to stuff like this and Deus Ex and have all that stuff that in many cases has been left by the wayside. Having to read the spell description before firing it off? Needing to judge distance so you don't get caught in a hail of your own fireballs? Permadeath? I'm having a blast replying it. So, who here's played the great Bioware/Black Isle masterpiece? If not, why not? Thoughts, Opinions? Let's have them.
Nezacant
Ok I'm going to Necro this post. BG doesn't deserve to be ignored! Amazingly underrated series that, because it is in 2d, many people wont go back to play. This series is what led to great games such as SWKotOR, Neverwinter Nights, and Dragon Age. Played and finshed BG1 + it's expansion 3 times. Played 2 + it's expansion 5 times but only finished it once. (It's just so damn long!) Needless to say, I loved and still love BG. One of the best games of all time.
MasterDex
Finally, a post! It's definitely one of the best games of all time and it's shocking how much stuff it does that modern games don't (or do, but do so badly). I can see why people would be hesitant to replay it or play it for the first time nowadays but if we were to write up a syllabus for required playing, Baldur's Gate would have to be near the top of the list. I'm really liking what the Bigworld Mod does too, I can't wait to see how my character is by the end of it.
Nezacant
OMG... I just clicked your link... Dude... I'm behind on so many games... I'm about to replay BG again... All your fault Dex.
MasterDex
MWAHAHAHAHA! If you're installing a lot of the stuff, be prepared to wait. A big install can take up to 6 hours.
Saturnine Tenshi
I've played Baldur's Gate many, many times. With many, many mods. I think I prefer the world of the first one and everything else of the second. I must have owned both games many times, beginning with the tall fold out Baldur's Gate 1 case. Spent way too much time over at the Pocket Plane mod website.
_S0MA_
IF there was a primary cause as to why SO many gamers find MANY of these new games to be complete shit; its cus of the fractional lifetimes we spent playing BG1 + 2. i was having a convo. with a RPG'ing friend about how you cant really explore in games anymore. remember in BG if you walked too many screens to the right, you ran into a basilisk almost immediately. you and your crew were fuct! atleast thats the way i remember it. i think the last game to really allow the user to explore was Fallout3. i know it gets flack for NOT being like the first two [three?] but the proximity based mini-missions and random encounters made a great experience; plus it looked great [on my rig] and the day/night changes were awesome. anyway. gimme a world that is massive, explorable and open. i will gladly hand over my money... addendum: so i tried farcry and farcry2 cus someone mentioned that the world was open and expansive. i uninstalled after trying to kill everyone in town with my turret machine gun. infinite guys running around shirtless who take more than one bullet from a M60. sigh
