Yantelope
So valve has announced a new CS game: Global Offensive. I'm very curious to see if this is going to be source engine based as well. I'm 99% sure it will be considering they got pretty good graphical results on Portal 2. I played a fair bit of CS:S in my day and that game was so fickle. Somedays it seemed as though everything I did was a headshot and other days it seemed my bullets would go everywhere but their intended targets. As an XBLA game though this might be worth $15. Anybody else excited for this one?
Luftwaffles
I'm not sure. Part of me loves Counterstrike and played 1.6 to death, then the other part of me thought CSS was a mess and bought it mostly for the GMOD props. I think I'll probably buy it because I haven't missed a new Valve game ever, but I can't see it dragging me away from Battlefield for very long as far as online multiplayer goes. I feel like I've already lost the reflexes that made me good at 1.6 and would rather hide in a building with a LMG.
Saturnine Tenshi
Well, I don't know how I missed this. Probably the not having internet when the news came. I'll be getting this over any other first-person shooter. As long as Valve maintains the freedom which the first two have had, and don't make it some wretched console port, I'll be pleased. deanb
I'm vaguely interested in it. Used to play CS:S Quite a bit back in the day (Uni had a server, 5ms ping, but stopped it several years ago) I wonder what they're aiming for with GO. Counter-Strike has a big name, but I'm unsure how well it'll go down on consoles. Is it going to be F2P? Purely multi-player? Still on Source? Counter Strike players get pretty set in their ways, it's why CS1.6 is still one of the most active games on Steam so I can see why Valve would want to make a new game instead of just updating CS:S. Saturnine Tenshi
Well, I think the name will be enough to drive the game. When you think multiplayer first-person shooter — if you know anything about PC games — Counter-Strike inevitably comes to mind. It may not be first for everyone, but it's there. My biggest qualm with CS:S wasn't that it was in any way worse than its predecessor(I only briefly dabbled in the world of scrims). No, it was that the mods were never as robust as 1.6 in its prime. Some of that could be attributed to the chasm between 1.6 purists and CS:S players.
Johnny
@Dean: They are aiming for a more true port of 1.6 in the newest version of the Source engine, appealing both to the public and competitive player. It's not gonna be like a "mdoern military shooter" with iron sights, instant kill grenades or stuff like that.
P4: Gritty Reboot
That excites me, Johnny. I'm honestly pretty pumped for CSGO, hoping it won't suck. It shouldn't though. Apparently the Defense Grid team is contributing to it, so there's that for whatever it's worth.

It's not gonna be like a "mdoern military shooter" with iron sights, instant kill grenades or stuff like that. That would be ideal. There's a part of me that is still wary of Source being used in a multiplayer shooter, but Half Life 2 Deathmatch is still a blast online so that may just be pessimism on my part. Harri
What I would like to see in CS:GO is a single player campaign. The one that turtle rock studios developed (CZ deleted scenes) was actually enjoyable. However, I'm also interested in how they'll handle the console versions. P4: Gritty Reboot
Almost ashamed to admit it, but I too liked CSCZ's campaign. It was old school even then, but it was ok. Wouldn't care if CSGO didn't include one though.
Saturnine Tenshi
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/08/26/cs-go-trailers-plant-the-bomb/ Cross platform play? *gives a hearty paunch chortle* Looks neat, though I can't say I enjoy radial menus. deanb
PS3 get's to even the score by becoming one of the...3 games on PS3 to use the official kb/m support. lol de_dust. They're not showing any new maps are they? I saw aztec, office, italy, and others I can't name cos I've not played in a while. Looks nice. Wonder how it's going to be dealt with. I assume it's a purchasable game?
Saturnine Tenshi
I saw one new map. Some indoor facility, and that's it. Could have been me not recognizing the new design. And how many of those PS3 owners are going to use mouse and keyboard? Few, most likely. I haven't read too much on the game. I heard there was something on G4, but I'm not watching that crap. Yantelope
Looks like it could be fun but I don't know if the same old Counter Strike can get me excited. BF3 looks so much more interesting.
Cyber Rat
Looks like it could be fun but I don't know if the same old Counter Strike can get me excited. But what if there are hats~?
Luftwaffles
I feel like cross-platform support is a good thing for me at least. I suck at CounterStrike something awful now, but put me up against a bunch of people trying to play with a gamepad and I'm sure I'll do fine. Cyber Rat
I'll prolly nab CS:S on the next sale whenever it happens.

deanb
Aye. I'll be up for some more next week, but as I said in steam chat I'd prefer to play a bit of "proper" CS:S. With hostages n bombs n shit. Chatuae n stuff.
Luftwaffles
I'd be down maybe wednesday, thursday or definitely friday as I don't have class then. Was disappointed I wasn't able to get to my good computer today. Looks like some more people could definitely be good.
toxicitizen
I wanted to join in when I got the event pop up, but the game wasn't installed and I eventually forgot about it altogether :/ But at least now it's installed and ready to play for next time. Faiblesse Des Sens
I liked the feel of CS: GO. I just didn't like playing it with a controller!
