Counter Strike

So valve has announced a new CS game: Global Offensive. I'm very curious to see if this is going to be source engine based as well. I'm 99% sure it will be considering they got pretty good graphical results on Portal 2. I played a fair bit of CS:S in my day and that game was so fickle. Somedays it seemed as though everything I did was a headshot and other days it seemed my bullets would go everywhere but their intended targets. As an XBLA game though this might be worth $15. Anybody else excited for this one?

I'm not sure. Part of me loves Counterstrike and played 1.6 to death, then the other part of me thought CSS was a mess and bought it mostly for the GMOD props.

I think I'll probably buy it because I haven't missed a new Valve game ever, but I can't see it dragging me away from Battlefield for very long as far as online multiplayer goes. I feel like I've already lost the reflexes that made me good at 1.6 and would rather hide in a building with a LMG.

I'm vaguely interested in it. Used to play CS:S Quite a bit back in the day (Uni had a server, 5ms ping, but stopped it several years ago)

I wonder what they're aiming for with GO. Counter-Strike has a big name, but I'm unsure how well it'll go down on consoles. Is it going to be F2P? Purely multi-player? Still on Source? Counter Strike players get pretty set in their ways, it's why CS1.6 is still one of the most active games on Steam so I can see why Valve would want to make a new game instead of just updating CS:S.

Well, I think the name will be enough to drive the game. When you think multiplayer first-person shooter — if you know anything about PC games — Counter-Strike inevitably comes to mind. It may not be first for everyone, but it's there. My biggest qualm with CS:S wasn't that it was in any way worse than its predecessor(I only briefly dabbled in the world of scrims). No, it was that the mods were never as robust as 1.6 in its prime. Some of that could be attributed to the chasm between 1.6 purists and CS:S players.

@Dean: They are aiming for a more true port of 1.6 in the newest version of the Source engine, appealing both to the public and competitive player. It's not gonna be like a "mdoern military shooter" with iron sights, instant kill grenades or stuff like that.

That would be ideal. There's a part of me that is still wary of Source being used in a multiplayer shooter, but Half Life 2 Deathmatch is still a blast online so that may just be pessimism on my part.

PS3 get's to even the score by becoming one of the...3 games on PS3 to use the official kb/m support.

lol de_dust.

They're not showing any new maps are they? I saw aztec, office, italy, and others I can't name cos I've not played in a while.

Looks nice. Wonder how it's going to be dealt with. I assume it's a purchasable game?
