Yantelope
So, I always find Marketing fascinating. Sometimes selling can be an art in and of itself. One of the things I've been noticing lately is how games like The Witcher 2 have been keeping themselves in the headlines well after their release by putting out new updates and patches constantly. Seems like it's cheaper advertising than just buy ad banners and they're providing something to players as well. Pretty smart it seems. I remember Burnout Paradise kept itself in the headlines for a long time doing something very similar. Anywho, just wondering if you guys are seeing any other strange marketing trends that you like or hate. Also, on marketing:
Yantelope
I'm starting to think that the whole DRM always on thing is just a big marketing trick to get people to talk about the game. It's kept Driver in the headlines for a while now. Maybe that's the real success of this DRM.
Vargras
Third-person shooters with regenerating health, featuring dark and gritty environments. Actually, how about just the regenerating health. I despise that feature.
Baconrath
I feel like these days when something is "leaked" it just translates to "Hey, we're putting this out early, but if anyone asks we didn't do it." Then everyone is like "Oooh this isn't supposed to be out hurr hurr espionage" and the Hype Train gets a-rollin'. Or, it could actually someone in a burglar outfit who sneaks in to their offices after-hours and posts their stuff on Youtube by typing really fast. Yantelope
Yeah, the leaks are usually a marketing thing too. I bet Eidos was plenty happy to have tons of people downloading the "demo". The last legitimate leak that I believe was probably Half Life 2. Yantelope
Well, they've always said that any publicity is good publicity. The only thing that fails is not being seen at all when it comes to selling. I wouldn't be surprised about the Crysis 2 leak. I sure seemed to soften the blow about only being DX9. Yantelope
I'm also willing to bet that Xenoblade not coming to america is a big marketing ploy too. I bet they're just trying to build outrage and buzz and they'll throw it out there and everyone will run out and buy it.
RockyRan
I remember Good old Games' marketing stunt. Pissed off a whole bunch of people.

RockyRan
When they faked that they were closing down completely even though they were just re-launching the site.
