What better time than right now to start a Persona thread. A whole bunch of Persona projects have just been outed!

Firstly, Persona 4: The Golden is coming to PS Vita. A port of the original ps2 game with additions such as 1.5 times the voice work of the original, new opening movie and anime sequences and even a new character.

Secondly, a Persona 4 fighter is in the works for arcades, and then ps3 and 360. It will feature characters from both Persona 4 and 3 and apparently continue the Persona 4 story, two months after the events that happened in that game.

Lastly, basic preperations for Persona 5 are apparently complete, with all the series regular staff on the project, including the awesome Shoji Meguro, composer for the Persona series (and also for Catherine!)

I'm a huge Persona fan, so I'm stoked about pretty much all of this stuff. The fighter will be interesting, I just hope it gets localised, it sounds very niche. Having said that, Atlus are usually very good at localising their in-studio projects, so I'm optimistic.

The fact that Arc System Works are making it, makes it the most anticipated title of the bunch. Capcom knows how to appeal to the masses with it's fighters, and SNK know how to target the Asian market with what they release. But ASW are the best a crafting a fighting game. No doubt about it for me.

Of course, Persona 5 is exciting. But I just can't wait to see what Arc Systems will do.

Yeah that does make it sound an awful lot more interesting than just "a persona fighting game". I wonder if it'll be in 2D or 3D... I'm mostly just interested to see where the story leads, since it's set a couple of months after Persona 4. (I do wonder how the plot will work with a fighting game but we'll see)

I would be 99.9% that it would be 2D.

The good thing about ASW fighting games, is that they always manage to have a strong story built into it, so that's one aspect that would be interesting, considering the story strength of the Persona series. I have plenty of faith in both Atlus and ASW.

I'm expecting a lot of style, loads of awesome music, and amazing graphics. Seriously pumped about this. :)

Well I'm pretty excited, I think. It's not hitting me, but I know I'll be fangasming excited once I see some footage or somethin'.

I'm terrible at fighting games, but I find 'em enjoyable. I've seen Blazblue being played, but my only experience with ASW was Arcana Heart 3 and really that was more Examu, they just borrowed the ASW fighting engine.

Persona 4: The Golden, now that sounds exciting! I'm very curious about the whole "calling for help wireless-ly, hopefully it's something like co-op in which case that'd be just great.

Wait, is Aegis in Persona 4 as well as 3? Or will P3 characters also be in the fighting game? That'd be pretty cool!

I really need to finish P3 :(

Persona 3 characters also going to be in the Persona fighting game. Aegis wasn't in Persona 4.

And I'm disappointed that I have to tell you that. Go play Persona 4! :P

Hey, I'm not proud of it :(

What's stupid is.. I bought P3 and P4 at the same time about two years ago. Started P3 and played pretty much non-stop for about 2 weeks then sort of burned out and stopped. Then I once again started playing it a lot back in like february 2011, and after about a week I stopped again. I haven't touched it since, and I think I'm like 2 months (in-game) from the end of the story.

I haven't started P4 because, well.. I need to finish P3 first -_-

I started P3P last year and got maybe a third or something through the game, then I sold my PSP. Now that I have my Go im trying to go through it again. I gotta say, the two things the game is based on, dungeon crawling and simulation really wear thin fast. At least to me they do. I HATE dungeon crawlers, but the storyline and characters were getting me through P3P, but now thats getting very tedious too. Its so repetitive. It has a really good turn based system, but Tartarus is just lame. DA2's dungeons would close some passages and doors and open others, so they were different maps, despite looking the same. Tartarus is the same thing.

People bitched about Dragon Age 2 having the same 3 dungeons over and over again, but somehow its ok when P3 only has one. I need a goddamn change of scenery besides Tartarus and school.

I think ill just go back to FF4. I can visit towns, ride a ship, listen to amazing music, and go to the goddamn moon in that.

I also think im done with playing games based on teenagers. Catherine and Nier taught me that current Japanese creators can do a fantastic job if they were to base games on people who are a bit older. But instead they go for this teenage crap.

I can't comment on the comparison since I haven't played DA2, but the floors in Tartarus are randomly generated, so they all have a different layout and if you go through a previously cleared floor, it will be different. Though it's true that Tartarus is pretty much the same experience all the way through. You won't suddenly reach a floor that plays differently than the previous ones. But isn't this true of most dungeon crawlers, especially randomly-generated ones?

Also, reading your post makes me wonder, how far along are you? Like, what's the highest Tartarus floor you've reached?

I'm bummed that Persona 4: The Golden won't have a female MC. That was a really cool concept for P3 Portable and I wish they would have kept it. A new female NPC is cool, but not AS cool. There's still more to show about this game though, so hopefully they'll blow my socks off with an epilogue like FES or something.

I'm bummed that the Persona 4 fighter will have a storyline within canon. I liked it when each Persona was being left as it's own unique entity. Yes, there are callbacks to 3 in 4, and 1 and 2 share some characters, but there was never really a continuity to be worried about. That looks to be changing now.

There was always a continuity. Characters from P1, Eternal Punishment AND Innocent Sin were featured in P3 through Trish's Show. In terms of continuity, the only game that was barely disconnected was P4, and even then, in P3P you visit Inaba. I'm not sure what you mean by each Persona being a unique entity, since they've always all been connected and clearly set in the same universe (Igor, Velvet Room, etc.).

Getting into Anime territory, but did anyone watch -Trinity Soul- ? I may need to watch that again, because most of the time I felt like I was getting mindf*cked and I've got a strong feeling that they'll be bringing characters from that series into the fighting game (or at least wouldn't be too surprising).

AC, I watched Trinity Soul. I thought it felt like two different shows pasted together honestly. The first half of the show was really slowly paced, focusing on character interactions and honestly only a very few action scenes. I really liked the first half of the show, it did all the things right that anime usually get wrong. I also appreciate the emphasis on family, that's something that gets left behind in shows like this way too often.

The second half had a lot more action, was confusing and difficult to follow, and failed to actually play upon all that careful character development. The second half felt like a poor man's Evangelion (minus the creepy sexual fixation). I didn't like the second half of the show at all.

Also, regarding the fighting game:

Come on now Ark System Works, this is stupid. I normally don't like to act like I can do a developer's job better than they, but this is just a ridiculously obvious mistake. You don't put "Ultimate" in the title of your new fighting game! You save that for the rebalanced update 10 months later! Come on people, get with the program!
