Yeah, but the 3ds has shit graphics and shit resolution. They made the right choice in recycling there. PS3/ps4 is a whole other thing. It's going to stick out like a motherfucker.

I'd like to think that they chose a home console over a handheld with the intent of updating everything. Otherwise they could have released p5 on 3ds since it's so popular in japan. And everywhere else.

Wait, do you mean the actual in-game assets? I'm talking about the designs here. I don't really expect a completely new compedium but I'm sure they remodeled them and everything. Otherwise, yeah, it would stick out and look like shit. I mean, from what I can tell based on screenshots and footage, SMTIV actually uses sprites instead of 3D assets and I'm pretty sure they were made specifically for that game, not lifted from somewhere else.

It made sense to re-use assets going from Nocturne to the other PS2 SMT games but not when you're making a platform/generation jump. I expect the game to have graphics comparable to Catherine. I mean, it's not like Persona 3 and 4 are huge games. Only half a dozen locations in towns and the dungeons are procedurally generated. There's no excuse for it to look like a PS2 game.

Only in the spin-offs like the fighting games, where the casts of P3 and P4 meet. Otherwise, P3 and P4 have completely separate, self-contained stories. I expect P5 to be no different in that regard,

My understanding is that P3 and P4 are self-contained, but all the Persona games still occur within the same setting which is, in turn, an alternate universe of the first SNES SMT game.  Continuity-wise, by Persona 4 Arena, Persona 1 happened around 15 years ago, Persona 2 was 13 years ago, Persona 3 was 2 years ago and Persona 4 was only a month and a half ago.

Yeah, I meant their respective narratives are self-contained. The games still take place in the same universe. I wasn't sure about P1 and P2, though. Persona 3 might as well have been a reboot for what little in common it had with previous games. What part of P4A are you talking about? I don't remember it acknowledging the first two games.

Yeah, really my question boiled down to "do I need to know the events of one game to understand what's going on in the next?"  It sounds like the answer is no, which is good.

It's hard to say for sure considering how little we know but if P5 is anything like 3 and 4, then it should be its own thing with a new cast of characters and everything, yeah.

P4 does have some small references to P3 but they're completely inconsequential and have no bearing on the story whatsoever. They're easter eggs more than anything, really. Like, during the school trip in P4, you're not really missing out on anything if you don't realize that the school you're visiting is the same one the P3 cast attended.

I'm personally enjoying it so far...though, it seems more grindy than P3/4. And a tad more difficult, but take that critique with a grain of salt...I'm not the best gamer out there. I usually play on any setting from normal to easy. It was my first entry into the dungeon-map-explorer-genre-thing...and I'm loving that aspect. Also interesting to see puzzles put in place with the map. I'm worried the story itself is going to end up being short...but can't comment on that yet.

The characters are goofy and lovable as always.

New Persona 5 trailer!

Holy shit, that gameplay! That music! Visual fidelity and presentation look very similar to Catherine, which is great. Really digging the masked vigilantes angle for the party, too.

Oh man, this is gonna be so gooooooood!

I wanted to like P3P so bad, but just couldn't get into it because of the dungeons.  From asking around the webternet, it seems that P4G improved that aspect immensely over P3P.  Is there a decent chance that I'd like P4G even though I couldn't get into P3P?

I suppose that depends what it was you disliked about P3P's dungeons. They're better in P4G but still kind of similar. It's not one uberdungeon like Tartarus but rather a series of smaller, themed dungeons. But it's still the same kind of procedurally-generated maze-like floors. There is a little more variety to them, though.

I think P4G has an easy mode, so you could always use that to power through the dungeons and just enjoy the school life/story parts. Although, I didn't find the game particularly difficult on normal so meh.

So fucking hyped, man.

Atlus...announce the date already! How about a Quarter?

Been watching some "analysis" videos...

Many seem to think we will be fighting "Demons" ala SMT(and the older Personas right?) instead of Shadows this time around. Personally, I'll have it either way.

Also, hope(as it looks) it'll be darker than P4(and maybe even 3?)....While I adored P4(G) P3 is slightly better story-wise in my book. But again, slightly.

Hope there are large, open areas that seem to be hinted at in the trailer(could be wrong.)

Couldn't agree more. P4 is the better game overall but I thought P3 had a much more interesting story. P4 was basically Scooby-Doo, which is fine but nowhere near as exciting as that whole end of the world thing P3 had going on.

I'm really curious what P5 will be about. There's already been comparisons saying that if P4 was Scooby-Doo then P5 is Lupin III. I'm only vaguely familiar with Lupin but it already sounds like a much more interesting dynamic, imho.
