deanb
I'm not much of a soup maker but I guess bones won't take up much room in a freezer (though maybe freak out housemates) A stew/casserole approach I think is for if I would be cooking for entire house, maybe in the future. TheFlyingGerbil
Soup is totally easy to make and completely different to anything you can buy. you could earn some brownie points by cooking a meal I know my flatmates really appreciated it whenever I made something - although they never returned the favour! You could even take it in turns to cooka house meal once a month.
deanb
Yeah at the moment it's just a case of time, we normally do do meal for each other every now n then. Come summer it'll be back to normal on things like that.

deanb
Not had one for years and since I may soon be gone thought I'd have one for a final time. A parmo. The donner was what Ben got, he swapped some for some parmo. Was pretty nice donner, I'd hope so given the takeaway was "The Kebab Centre". Parmo was nice too.crunchy, gooey, chickeny. Nice side too, decent amount of onion.
TheFlyingGerbil
decent amount of onion? That is a LOT of raw onion!
deanb
Most places only tend to put like 6 slithers of onion in a side and a ton of cabbage.
TheFlyingGerbil
I only like a few bits of raw onion before it starts burning my mouth and ruining the taste of other stuff. Also, "Not had one for years and since I may soon be gone thought I'd have one for a final time." sounds like you're dying! I'm guessing you're referring to finishing uni... deanb
A parmesan, or Parmo for short, is dish from the town I'm currently in*, you can get it from various take aways in the north east, but afaik it's not made it's way down south much. (Some chefs on TV shows** will cook it and have to explain what they've just made ) It's based of an Italian dish. It's chicken fillet(s) flattened and coated in bread crumbs, this is then fried to make it all crispy, put in a pizza tin (or just left on a flat thingy) coated in white sauce then topped with cheddar cheese and stuck in a pizza oven. Some takeaways even do them like pizzas so you can get toppings too. They come in two portion sizes, a Half (above) or a full (which I know of no one who has managed to finish one), both with a side of chips and salad. Half is just smaller, not one cut in two. Wikipedia suggest that a full parmo is roughly 2,600 cal (with chips). more info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parmo You could probably make one at home, control the portion size and what goes in it. It's a pretty simple dish. Could probably even use actual parmesan cheese *made by an American mind **'saturday cooks', 'ready, steady, cook' etc. Dunno if you guys have anything like that? Generally a professional chef with public/celeb making something.

deanb
Just had Cottage Cheese on Bagel. I went into the shop not knowing what I want. Picked up Cottage Cheese to have on toast, saw bagels were on cheap, so picked them up for a shot. Cottage Cheese n Philli aren't too dissimilar. It worked very nicely. But maybe that's cos I have a thing for Cottage Cheese. I could have had it on it's own n still called it a great tasting meal.

Mal
Four Saudi Arabian dates and coffee, with cream and sugar. I should take a picture of these dates. They are by far, The best dates I have ever had. My mom Saudi friends comes to the States sometimes and brings these with them. All I know is... these dates are expensive as fuck over here in the States. So I must conserve what supply I have... and then get these from them at a later date. I MUST HAVE THESE DATES THROUGH FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. Jujubes just don't cut it anymore with the introduction of these dates. --- Five hours later... MORE DATES. I think I tracked down the name of them. Sukkari dates. They're around $20 per kg (~2.2 LBS) and shipping to where I live is... anywhere from $40 to $75. This is one expensive fruit to eat but damn is it worth it. Edited August 13, 2011 by MaliciousH
