Saturnine Tenshi
It is. It's a stock image. I add green beans... thinking of adding leek next time. Very easy to make, and incredibly tasty. Eating some pickled daikon now. x: Pickled it ourselves.
TheFlyingGerbil
I made jambalaya for my Mum's birthday dinner today. I doubt it was authentic but it was really tasty and it's a complete nightmare thinking of meals my brother will eat as the list of ingredients he doesn't like is a lot longer than the one he does. I also made a key lime pie - though I know that wasn't authentic as a proper one is made with lime curd and I basically made a lime mousse on top of a ginger nut base. This version is a lot lighter and more refreshing though. I have made lemon curd in the past and it is rather delicious compared to the shop bought stuff - definitely worth the effort if you're making a lemon meringue for example. UnstableArk
Forgot to take out the chicken to defrost, so I ended up making some brown rice and beans for my brother and I. Not too bad a combo, but it does get boring without anything else.
deanb
This isn't just any cheese and pickle sandwich. This is a Asda Mature Cheddar and 2-year-aged grandma-made picalilli sandwich.
Mal
Had some vegetarian Vietnamese food not too long ago. I was pleasantly surprised then again I am used to eating tofu products. There is a sort of "What you expect, what you get" shock/mismatch going on. It helps to see the "meat" as just tofu. It will make the texture of them easy to deal with. TheFlyingGerbil
I have tried several times to like tofu, but I can only eat a few pieces before my gag reflex kicks in.

Mal
Oh god... this chili con carne is the fucking bomb after two days in the fridge. /gasam And I made it myself too. Edited October 5, 2011 by MaliciousH
Mal
Steak because I felt like it and yes, a college student can afford it... with some help. As I said in the status update... its not great but its passable. Fat is non existent, even though there were a decent amount before cooking. So its sort of unfavorable. Good thing I put some rosemary with salt and pepper on it. I got three more of these guys in the freezer so time to experiment with making them good. deanb
I'd been hankering after steak for a while. Since my mum lives not far from a combi abattoir-wholesale foods place I got some rump steak (proper fillets were £22.50/kilo and I wasn't that confident in my cooking skills) and some vegies alongside it. It turned out pretty fucking sweet. You can just see from the top of the image peeking through how I like my steak
TheMightyEthan
I love that I can put "22.50 gbp/kg in usd/lb" into Google and it actually gives me the answer.
TheFlyingGerbil
"combi abattoir-wholesale foods place". Jesus. How could anyone pass that by...
deanb
You know your food has to pass by an abattoir regardless right? This just cuts out the middleman. They have a cafe on the end too. If there was space they could even add like a petting zoo of sorts on the other end. You arrive, pet the cow n feed it some hay, go into the shop part, pick up some burgers then go and finish off with a steak and ale pie n chips. They also sell eggs by the gross, and not many places do.
TheFlyingGerbil
yes, I know that, but I don't want to buy my steak next to a vat of abandoned cow arseholes.
deanb
It's hardly like they're slaughtering cows next to the till.
P4: Gritty Reboot
A few fine local eateries if anyone is ever in the Inland Empire: Flo's - Amazing biscuits and gravy served on hash browns with a side of eggs. Total bill comes out to about $7/plate including a beverage. Donut Club - Typical Chinese mafia-owned little donut shop. 6" sub, any donut, bag of chips, large drink for $5.25 no tax. Centro Basco - Awesome Basque restaurant. $20/head family-style supper weekends only, 7:30 PM sharp when they ring the bell or you don't get served. Lunch is $15 at noon. Unlimited wine and massive amounts of food. The Back Abbey - Fantastic Belgian and world beer and the best burger around. Pricey but worth it. Heroes & Legends - Pub with a great fish & chips menu item and good beer on tap. Love the atmosphere here. I'm sure there are more that I'm forgetting or that are a little bit of a trip to get to... Roscoe's Chicken & Waffle comes to mind. Then of course we've got the decent fast food joints like In-N-Out, Five Guys, The Habit, Chipotle, etc.
TheFlyingGerbil
Made some shortbread today which is my very favourite biscuit. Half with chocolate chips and half without. Had a warm one while it was still soft and another after it had cooled and gone crumbly. Both gorgeous even if I do say so myself.
excel_excel
Phew, had a great workout, and then when I got back to my place I had tuna, garden salad and hot garlic chilli sauce (no mayo or anything) and finished off with some tropical fruit mix. YUMMERS!

Faiblesse Des Sens
Tofu scramble (curry powder for flavor) with onion, garlic, red peppers, green onions, spinach, and various mushrooms with a side of hash browns. Didn't chop up the potatoes myself but I did everything else.
