Waldorf and Statler
Using found armor as components is nice, but at one point you'll make such epic armor that only an even MORE epic armor you build could beat it. I found myself bored in games like this when I didn't have any incentive to decide whether to take or leave armor other than "can i use something from this to make my already beast armor beastier?" And I agree with you WTF. The scope of this game is massive and... while I wouldn't say I am obsessed with this as I was with Skyrim when it first came out, there are many factors that come at play to determine that [one being how skyrim had come out 3 months before and I was already somewhat burned out of massive games like this]. Being a finesse guy with sorcery, my main skills I'm upgrading are detect hidden, mercantile, and stealth. I'm also dabbling in making crystals. With detect hidden and mercantile, I'm making a decent amount of money. I never have less than 80,000 gold. I also have armor that gives me health regen, which means I only have to use health potions every once in a while, and when I HAVE to have more, I can just buy them. Once i reach the point where small health regen potions are useless, I'll respec to get rid of alchemy and just put more in mercantile so I can buy regular potions. I love poison blink. With my fire/ice damage daggers, and my increased elemental damage, I can do poison and fire/ice damage beastly. I can kill big guys relatively easy if I can sneak up behind them, and overall I don't tend to play as rogues but rogue/mage is so fucking sweet. WTF
I do agree that the rogue mage is pretty sweet but it's hard to find a good robe or even find the necessary bits to create one and so I've got a fair number of points in might too. I've not made a lot of crystals and I do have some points in detect hidden which I guess I should improve based on what you said. Personally I don't care about armour, but I do care about weapons and that's always my main focus in games like these. I just like to find one awesome armour and be done with it. But I love having several weapons. Personally I love the chakrams (kind of weird to use it as a plural in English, but yeah) because they just take down enemies for massive damage. Combine that with a fae blade and dagger and that's pretty much what I carry about. I just love the fast weapons. Everything else seems useless to me at the moment. I guess since I didn't spend more than 8-10 hours with Skyrim I'm not quite burnt out on this as yet. Plus i suppose the thing is entirely my fault too for not caring about Skyrim since I just don't care to play in the Nordic lands. The world is just eh to me for the most part. Whereas the world in Amalur feels fresh. I think it's because I've spent over 200 hours in Morrowind that I just couldn't feel that way about the other TES games since. Oh and the combat, finally a WRPG that does combat decently instead of a clunkfest.
Waldorf and Statler
Being a rogue mage doesn't require you to have a robe to have decent magicka. I have a combination of a whole bunch of armors, plus rings and necklesses, that give me extra magicka and magicka recharge. And tell me about it. This is the first game where combat is actually straight up fun. I love me some Skyrim, but god damn does it have the most blind fanboys ever. Some actually defend the combat and say this combat is shitty.
WTF
I know I know but it's the aesthetics man. I just like to see the character I made in her robe or some decent leather outfits. I honestly dislike some of the designs of the might armour but at least it's not so far followed the rule of the better the armour the less it covers. The shields though, whoever designed some of them really knew how to make them stand out. Shame you barely see them when running around. I usually have talismans and rings for decent magicka. It's just the mapping that I forget. Sometimes I've forgotten that I have x spell since I'm so used to just using the early ones I got. Also screw those plants that bite you soon as you head to a treasure - I wish I could kill them.
Waldorf and Statler
Oh fuck me I recently discovered those plants while doing one of the later missions in the House of Ballads. It gave me bleeding damage, and the boss fight was already full of bleeding damage so yeah. that sucked.
WTF
That boss fight was fun though, I tried it twice because I goofed up in what I wanted to say the first time. One thing I'm not entirely sure of is that, conversation mid-boss fight with a dialogue option. Sometimes it's ok but sometimes you're like okay I chose this path just let me do it already. Enervation
So uh, I just finished it. I'm not sure what to say. I'm pretty sure what I will eventually say will be negative, though. The combat system was fun but everything else sort of brought it down.
Waldorf and Statler
Pretty sure the main story is not the main appeal. I'm sure I wouldn't have much to say about Skyrim if I beat the story mode asap. I dont even think I've done much of the main story. This game is designed around exploration and loot. Enervation
It feels like a WASD control Diablo to me. :l I never really was able to get into Diablo. Something with the loot carrying that always made me feel annoyed. Amalur is no different.
WTF
Ahh, you played with a keyboard? I'm sorry but this game is crap to play with on a keyboard. It's much better played with a controller. That's just the way it was programmed. Also loot is an important key point in diablo and this did try to take that aspect from the Blizz games. No crazy loot in Diablo makes it as meh as the clones. Loved the horadric cube.
Thursday Next
I can't get rid of the side-quests, I'm trapped in a Zeno's paradox of the bloody things.
Waldorf and Statler
What do you mean? As in they're stuck in your menu? Because if so, I have some shit in my inventory that can't leave [like a specific armor set I supposedly sold]. Or do you mean there are so many you don't want to deal with them?
TCP
When will this get a price cut! I'm itching to play it.
Waldorf and Statler
I'm sure you can find it used for consoles now at a gamestop for like 40 or 45. Steam though, it might take a while. But cowboy word of warning: this game is nothing groundbreaking. If you've played MMO-like single player RPG's before, you'll enjoy this. it is REALLY well done, but nothing groundbreaking. I mean that I can only ever do half of the quests but by the time I've done them, I have a whole new bunch of quests. Strangely though, the dude who collects Freeman Armbands is no longer accepting them. I've 50 of the bastard things sitting in my inventory. I need to get rid but he's not playing ball. I might go smack the shit outta him next time I see him, see if that changes his mind.

Yeah, that's what I figured, especially coming off Skyrim, I don't think this game can live up to the standards of the games it's trying to be. I'm expecting something closer to the level of a RPG like Fable 2. I only buy new, but this strikes me as a game that'll reach 39.99 soon. Which I think is a reasonable price to pay for both the quality and the quantity of this game.
TheMightyEthan
I'm holding out for $30. Actually, there's a 50% off sale on Origin this week, and KoA was in the e-mail ad I received, but apparently it's not actually discounted.
deanb
You checked the site? Origin is iffy in that some of the deals are on the client and some are on the site. And some are if you're in one country and some deals if you're in another. It shows up as sale on my end, and it's an alright price but not an alright time. Yantelope V2
KOA:R might be held up because of the "excludes games released in the last 30 days" but it came out 35 days ago so I dunno.
TheMightyEthan
No, from what I can tell it's on sale in Europe but not the US. I only checked the site though, didn't try the client.
deanb
definitely on sale over here.

deanb
Ha ha, you have the VAT Eh? What's your point? Google Translate provides this: "Ha ha, your final checkout prices are simple to work out because a single tax means that all items can be taxed on the "shelves" rather than at the checkout based upon whatever tax laws are in place within the particular square mile location you're in at the time"
TheMightyEthan
Most of the time when ordering online we don't have to pay tax at all, so
