CorgiShinobi
Words can not describe this game. Instead, a video of one boss battle will suffice. If this turns out anywhere "good," then consider this my dream game. Edited September 18, 2011 by Atomsk88
BrainHurtBoy...2
Okay, that boss footage was pretty damn awesome. Also, it takes place in India (a fantasy version, obviously, but still India), which is what I've been hoping for a long time. It's the only reasonable setting for a game based on Buddhism with a main character named "Asura". This game's been on my radar for a while, but I hadn't seen that footage. I'd love to see some regular, non-boss gameplay, though, to see how navigating environments works out. All in all, I'm optimistic and excited for this game. excel_excel
SO!!! demo has been out for a little while, thoughts and impressions? Its definitely different, so Dragon Ball Z and over the top with flashbacks happening during the fights and it works for me, despite the fact that if someone called it QTEs the game it would be hard to disagree with them. I mean that's basically the whole first fight from the demo, and the second one is 25% actual fighting and 75% QTEs. There are gameplay parts but they are pretty basic feeling......but it works. Something about the sheer over the topness and anime style of the whole thing, the sheer ridiculousness of the plot and the way its presented....I like it. May get really repetitive though. Faiblesse Des Sens
I felt it was really repetitive just from the demo. =\ I might youtube it.
Waldorf and Statler
I love revenge stories, no matter how simplistic so I'll definitely play this. By play, I mean Gamefly it.
CorgiShinobi
It's from CyberConnect2, the ones behind the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja series. It plays similarily, but what I like about these QTEs is that there's emotion behind them. Maybe shallow, but it beats, "Oh crap, hit L2 to dodge!" I mean, rapidly pushing the Circle button to lift Wyzen's gigantic fighter and eventually deliver a punch that disintegrated him was awesome. Also, you can't deny fighting on the moon, flying through space, being impaled by a sword that pierced its way through the entire Earth doesn't have a certain wow factor. Waldorf and Statler
the entire game warrants at least a playthrough to see the ridiculousness of the story of gods fighting
CorgiShinobi
It would appear there's more to Asura's Wrath than fighting with other deities. LIKE STARING AT GRAVITY DEFYING BREASTS!
Waldorf and Statler
How can people bitch about this? This is the most interested I've been in a Capcom game in a while

Kovach_
The demo was fun enough, but i'd like to see more before buying since, like FDS said, it seems like it could get repetitive.
CorgiShinobi
GameTrailers has a preview which shows a bit more of the story and the non-boss gameplay. The demo I think was trying to emphasis the magnitude the game can achieve when we're dealing with these Deity Guardians. Of course, I'm concerned that the pacing might just be: big battle -> small enemies in a linear fashion -> single tough enemy -> a few more small enemies -> big battle
Waldorf and Statler
You mean like every other game of this kind? Asura's Wrath can't be blamed for not reinventing the wheel.
Faiblesse Des Sens
What other games have been like this? I've never played a game with so much QTE personally.
Waldorf and Statler
QTE's aside, I was talking about the progression in the post above. I happen to like the QTE's. It adds interactivity to the cutscenes. And it's a japanese game so it'll have cutscenes.
Faiblesse Des Sens
It's nothing BUT cutscenes.
Waldorf and Statler
That's the impression the demo left and I am not arguing that. But other gameplay videos show actual gameplay. This is what they're demonstrating since it's so radically different from your standard beat em up formula. I'm not judging it till I play it myself, my standards aren't high when it comes to games like these and clearly it is well done for what it is. CorgiShinobi
As for my previous comment, yeah, it's like standard game progression. The potential drawback though is how the normal combat will play out. Think of a game like Force Unleashed II. Cool moves, but repetitive given the lack of variation. I doubt the boss battles will be repetitive because the QTEs will offer more dynamic scenes. That's the other thing about Asura's Wrath: the boss battles provide plot progression and other dialogue. I doubt we're going to get a lot of that in the standard gameplay.
Waldorf and Statler
Just like any other game really. Repetitive wise yeah most likely, but it'll be kept fresh with the QTE's and boss battles. And that's enough for me.
Kovach_
I hate QTEs with a fiery passion.
Waldorf and Statler
Then I'm gonna take a wild guess here, don't quote me on this, and say that this game is not for you.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Walforf: Did you play the demo?
Waldorf and Statler
Yes. And I liked it. I'm not too cynical about video games. I want to stress that I rent 95% of the games I play, this one and Kingdoms of Amalur included. Once you're only paying $20 a month to play 3-4+ games, the level of angry nerdness goes down by a lot. I used to also get pissed about everything. Plus not to mention I'm gonna be able to keep Kingdoms of Amalur for like 35 or 40 bucks. And since I'll be the first to play it in the Gamefly list... it'll be brand new.
Waldorf and Statler
http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/121/1217485p1.html This article explains something about the game that has me intrigued. To summarize the article, this guy has played about 2/3 of the game and says that the game is not a beat em up like people expected. He says that in a regular 20 minute gameplay episode, about 1/4 of that is actually a beat'em up and the rest is a combination between QTE's, cutscenes, shoot em ups and boss fights. So far he has nothing but great things to say about how unique the game is, but if you were expecting a brawler ala God of War that you should look somewhere else. Nitpick: she. The writer is a lady, as it says at the end of the article. But yeah, I played the demo and liked it a lot. It's more like an interactive anime, but I'm okay with that, as long as it's engaging. QTEs don't HAVE to be the devil. The game parts of it were fun, and the scripted sequences were interesting.
