Vargras
From: http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/09/19/dota-2-game-leak-hints-at-half-life-episode-three.aspx A Vietnamese beta tester has leaked the entire game client for Dota 2, and the Internet is on fire as the code is picked clean like a desert carcass. Among the massive data mine are details about a Dota store, and weapon information for something called ep3. Could that be Half Life Episode Three? Team Liquid has parsed out some information from the Dota 2 game code. Contained within the Dota 2 client are weapon files for something called ep3. Check out the screen below. Is Valve planning a flamethrower and an icegun for Half Life Episode 3? What exactly is this weaponizer? Right now we have more questions than answers, and ep3 could really be anything. Still, it’s fun to dream about Half Life Episode 3, especially since Valve doesn’t seem to ever want to talk about the game.
Luftwaffles
I don't really care about the weapons for EP3, to be honest. All I care about is that it happens, and hopefully this means we'll be getting a little bit closer.

All I care about is that it happens, and hopefully this means we'll be getting a little bit closer. Valve knows how big the Half-Life franchise is, and they know fans want the next part. They've been awful hush-hush about it, and considering all of their other major franchises have gotten updates or will be getting updates, all that's left to take care of is Half-Life. Honestly, I won't be surprised if they bust out a brand new engine for it. They might use a beefed up version of Source, but a new engine wouldn't surprise me either. I sure hope they bust out a whole new engine, but as this does look to be more of a continuation of the episodic content rather than a full length Half-Life 3 I would be pleasantly surprised if that happened. This "weaponizer" thing sounds like it could warrant a new engine, though, just like the Gravity Gun and Source.

Liquids are notoriously difficult to properly render on computers. They either don't look right, or they don't behave right.

Portal 2's fork of Source rendered its gels really well, better than any other game I've ever seen, but I feel like Valve definitely "cheated" a little bit with the liquid textures and made them solid color rather than some sort of transparency and that's why they rendered so well. I think Source can do liquid physics and rendering well, but I'm not 100% sold on its competence with transparency.

Well, the Borealis will definitely be involved, and that's stuck in the ice up in the Arctic. Means the water is either gonna be transparent or murky. deanb
Heheh. Already seen this. Sorry to burst anyones hopes and dreams, but it's most likely a red herring. Valve have snuck MMO code into TF2 before, they know people fish through files.

Vargras
This did not need its own thread. I don't see why not. There's far worse topics that have been posted.
deanb
And stuff that's never gotten off the ground. In future though there's a report button if you feel content is in the wrong place or what not rather than backseat moderating huh?
Faiblesse Des Sens
What would it be moderated for? It's not off-topic, it's just stupid and belongs in a HL thread.
MasterDex
That'd be your opinion of it. Personally, I feel it's fine in its own thread as it would help to keep the discussion on the topic (The leaked code). I've had a strong suspicion that the time between Episode 2 and Episode 3 was because Valve were going to just release Half-Life 3 along with a new engine but this leaked code seems to throw a spanner in that idea. The Weapon_Ice.cpp file makes sense to anyone that finished episode 2 so that lends credence to the relation of these files to Half-Life and the timing seems to make some sense too as after DotA 2, Valve have no other games announced as in development. Considering that DotA 2 may not grab too large of an audience, Valve may be hoping to get Episode 3 out by the end of next year to keep profits up. DocSeuss
after DotA 2, Valve have no other games announced as in development. Um, what about CS:GO?
excel_excel
So then its in development. HOORAY! Maybe they are waiting for next gen console hardware to come out, so they can release it on PC and consoles simultaneously.
Yantelope
Keep in mind that even after it's officially announced you'll have to wait for another 4 years.

CS:GO is already close to beta phase, and is more of a CSS 1.5 rather than a CSS 2.0.

Yantelope
So it's a prequel to CS1.6? I thought that too. No, It's CS1.6-
