excel_excel
Yeah so its been out since yesterday, thoughts on it? Its got a weird control scheme, 4 way shooter style, WASD to move, directional keys to shoot. Your shots slighty change direction depending on how your moving. No remappable keys or official gamepad support yet. Its genuinely fun though and I think its meant to be played without kind of knowing what items do and that sort of thing! You get find items around the dungeons and by beating bosses, some which might improve your stats or change and improve your attack and give you optional attacking power. A few items I found a Steam sale 50%, don't know what it does but I have a cute little 50% tag on Isaac now, a coat hanger stuck through his head, a Shoop da Whoop attack Opps, since its programmed in Flash, saving is stored in the flash cache.....so be careful with CCleaner Edited September 29, 2011 by excel_excel
CorgiShinobi
You can use your mouse for aiming and shooting, but it's a little goofy at first, then unreliable once the difficulty increases. If it wasn't for the hilarious and plentiful amount of items, this would almost be a bit shallow. It's one of those games that takes a bit to master, but then you must play it more times to unlock extras and really get the most out of it. I love these kind of $5 games! EDIT: FRICKIN' MONSTRO II!!! That's it. Once you find the boss chamber, if you have near full health, go for it. I mean, once you've found an item or two, GO FOR IT! I was being OCD thinking there might be something else, but instead I wasted three hearts for a few pennies. I was so close, but SHOOP DA WHOOP is useless on tougher boss given how much they move. I traded it off for the Unicorn horn, but I don't know what that even did. Probably something more useful. Oh yeah, the Bent Spoon is probably the most helpful item: homing tears! Mister Jack
Any word on if this game will ever have controller support?
MasterDex
Any word on if this game will ever have controller support? Haven't heard any but I can see this getting a console release so perhaps once that arrives, it'll be added in. I wouldn't mind higher resolutions either. It's not a big deal but still, I'd rather play the game at my native resolution. As for power-ups, on one playthrough I got all these demon related pickups that seemed to be meant to work together. I was awesome. The crown of thorns is also a great pick-up as is technology, but that takes some getting used to.
fuchikoma
I didn't expect a lot out of this game when I got the Voxatron debut bundle - not sure why, I guess it's because I'm not so big on Smash TV and Robotron type games and it drives me nuts when I try to dodge and ram against a level feature. I'm having a lot of fun with it though! I should have figured... I was one of the original buyers of Gish and have raved about it for years and also really liked Super Meat Boy (couldn't stand "Meat Boy" the browser game tho...) Edmund McMillen makes some fun games. His warped sense of humour also really helps. Since getting into it yesterday, Isaac has found A halo (wreath?) of flies "Number 1" - fast "tears" of pee, and a smiling face Wooden spoon - covers him in spoon welts Coat hanger - through the head! Mom's underwear - which he wears, of course. A cat's head The floating fetus of his brother?! SHOOP DA WOOP The Virus - poison touch, and covers him in warts Tarot cards that do various things, including killing him instantly. Wish I remembered which it was... [edit: aha! I think it's "the priestess," which destroys an enemy if there is one, or destroys you if you waste it!] And that's just the weirder items For controller support, they recommend "Joy2Key." I used the Logitech control panel for mine - WASD on d-pad, UDLR (cursors) on the face buttons, right bumper to bomb (E?), left bumper for item/interaction (space), and left trigger for special item (Q). Start button mapped to escape so I can pause it. Hmm... and right now I'm going to map select to "F" because the game never remembers to stay in fullscreen. Mal
So earlier today I FINALLY got into Mom's room and beated her after my second time facing her. Took me long enough after a week or two of trying of a couple rounds here and a few there. I swear if I died... I would of quit because I was packed with coins, bombs and keys. I was also loaded with powerups. Kind of like my first encounter with her but that time I died pretty badly...
CrowKnow
Kinda annoying how everything is so chance based, at least once session I'll end on floors with: only bombs but, only chests on the map or only keys and only dark rocks, rooms with no cover but, so many ranged enemies the fps dies making it even harder to dodge . Having my steam cloud save randomly wipe or fail to upload doesn't help either. Still enjoying the game though, giant amount of buffs is interesting and struggling to get to the end. Connorrrr
http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/06/the-wrath-of-the-lamb-will-be-the-binding-of-isaacs-only-expa/ I love this game, glad to see it's getting more longevity. A 3DS version would be neat too.
fuchikoma
I can NOT see this on a Nintendo platform as it is... For instance, A naked child, blessed by Satan, puts on his mom's underwear, takes a bunch of drugs, pees on everything he meets, is joined by the ghostly fetus of his aborted sibling, then kills his mother because it's the right thing to do?
Saturnine Tenshi
Picked it up when it was part of a bundle and only got around to seriously playing it in December. That was before the achievement, but I did get much farther when the achievement spurred me too (incidentally, many times farther than I ever had in sitting down once to get the achievement). Anyway, I think it's neat. The game is deeper than I expected: never knew there were so many types of upgrades to find/unlock. Still not too keen on the visual style. It's not that it offends me; it's just cloying. We get it, alright. You want to be nasty and offensive.

That was my initial reaction to the news too. I mean, sure, Nintendo aren't nearly as uptight as they were back in the day and there are violent and mature titles on its platforms, but the Binding of Isaac is something else entirely. Saturnine Tenshi
I read my quote and it sounds stooped. Or it's just my lack of oxygen. Wrt religious aspectts: I don't really have an opinion. It's just there. I'm not offended if that's what you're asking.
Faiblesse Des Sens
I think it's a rather huge part of the game. It's called the fucking binding of ISAAC.
Mal
With me not being raised Christian, it didn't do anything for me. I just find it cool?
fuchikoma
Ditto. I've heard the short version of the tale, but had to go look it up just now to make sure it was the one I had in mind. No matter how big a part of the title of the game it is, all you need to play it is reflexes and a sense of humour.
Mister Jack
Maybe everyone else already knows about it but I just found a mod for Binding of Isaac that lets you play around with the game's settings to make it less random. You can also edit maps, but I haven't really figured that out. If you don't want to change the rules of the game, you can just use it for the bug fixes on the original game. You can even turn the fixes on or off if you want to use a particular bug or exploit for whatever reason. If none of that appeals to you, then you can just use it for the graphics acceleration and controller support. http://spidermod.spiderland.net/ Edited December 10, 2013 by Mister Jack
