The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Ugh, there are two mini games I hate in Skyward Sword: Harp and Pumpkin Pull!

Harp simply because the "correct" way of playing sounds awful and is such a waste of time.

Pumpkin Pull because while it's easy enough to get to 400, getting to 600 for the Piece of Heart took me about 40 minutes with me ending up between 420-560 on most plays. Seriously, once I hit exactly 600, the MotionPlus was goofing up and I managed to make another 10 points.

Stupid Fledge, and to think I took pity on you for trying your best to improve. If only arrows could hurt you...

I pretty much only beat 1 dungeon per day. I liked the over-all story in this game better than Ocarina, but the freedom of Ocarina is unrivaled [imho].

Ocarina had a much more immersive world... for it's time at least. The only modern games that have made me feel like that again were Red Dead Redemption and maybe Skyrim (which I'm too afraid to play on my PS3 till a few more patches!).

Spoilers from near the end of the game (I think):

I still haven't finished the game! I haven't experienced the sort of fatigue playing you guys described, but the idea of clearing more than one dungeon in a Zelda game in a single sitting is kind of foreign to me anyway. I guess I don't do marathon sessions quite so long as some other players. A single dungeon normally takes me two play sessions to clear, let alone all the business in between them.

To quote dean: That's what you get for getting a PC game on the PS3. :P

;)

Getting off topic but I just can't get into PC gaming. I'm too much of a Mac and console guy, it goes against everything I believe in!!! :P

I'm being a little bit of a completionist, but there are a few other things that have sorta bugged me.

One, I still don't know how I feel about the two Life Medals to make a complete 20 Hearts. When I do an Analyze, Fi tells me how my pouch has a low percentage of "survival" even though I have two bottles of Heart Potion ++ and another bottle with a Red Fairy. Add my Goddess Shield, a Large Quiver and Large Bomb Bag and I think I have a better chance of surviving than adding different potions or different medals.

Two, and I did theoretically expect this, but your gifts for Gratitude Crystals. They're just like the Gold Skulltula Tokens in Ocarina of Time: at a certain point you're fine with abandoning the side quest.

As I'm saying this they are minor, but meh...

EDIT: So I don't double post.

Beat the game and here's what I got to say...

Returning to the same areas again and again didn't really bother me too much, they at least made an attempt at making the area different or giving you a new area to explore within that area. However, I wouldn't have been opposed to a fourth overall area... maybe snow? However, the more I think about it, the more the world design reminds me of 2D Zelda's, specifically games like Link's Awakening or the Oracle games. There was a lot crammed into those worlds, and everything had a purpose.

What in the world is a Red Fairy? Is it the same as a regular fairy? A google search revealed nothing.

He must mean a pink fairy, the ones that revive you.

That's what I was thinking, but the fact that he specified color at all is what confused me...

Well there's blue fairies that don't revive you but do say "hey! listen!" and yellow fairies that can be a bit rude at times.

I can't tell if you guys didn't catch the bad joke or if you're kidding..

but regardless I'll explain: I was talking about how one person was colorblind due to them thinking the fairies were red, then said I'm not colorblind only to say the tunic was a different color.

Maybe it was funnier in my head.

Oh you! What a joker.

....It probably would have made more sense if I read the first part of your post. I just saw "brown tunic" and immediately freaked the hell out. As demonstrated last night in the Assassin's Creed thread, I haven't been too observant as of late. :P

There's a Waldorf and Statler comic in the making here...

Yeah, I guess I meant "Pink" Fairy, as in the one that revives you if you happen to lose all your hearts. For the life of me I thought they were called Red Fairies, but then again I had the same fairy bottled up in my pouch for a looooooong time. (EDIT: In Skyward Sword, they're referred to as simply "Fairy.")

Speaking of which, how do you guys feel about fairies only healing six hearts now? In Twilight Princess, I'm sure it was eight, but all the way back from Ocarina of Time it was all hearts.

It makes it fair tbh. Then there would be no point of actually bothering to buy the potion or catching bugs to make them stronger.

Funny enough I never needed potions. I had the medal/token that made hearts appear more often and that was a big help. I had three bottles [all three of them with fairies] and the only time I died in a boss battle and had to use a fairy was in the very last boss. And funny enough, the second I stood up and slashed him one more time I got to do the finisher

I only ever bought two different potions: Heart and Stamina.

Heart, for obvious reasons, but the Stamina potion I used for the Fledge side quest, and to cheat in gaining one of the Goddess Cubes in Eldin I made a Stamina Potion ++. Rather than trying to slide down the sand slopes over and over, I got to the platforms about midway, drank the potion and ran all the way back to the split to go down the other path.

I was pissed enough when they reduced it from all hearts to 8 hearts, so you can imagine how I felt about this...

I understand why they can't have the fairies healing all hearts, but they should have left it at 8 imo.

*Edit* - Also, wtf is up with there not being any way to double your resistance or whatever? Like how in OoT you could make it so enemies only did 1/2 damage. Did I just miss that or is it not in this game?

Ah, the Great Fairy of Courage's Enhanced Defense.

I think now that we can actively use our shields (shield bash), we've (as in those in charge) forgone any added defense since the last inkling of improved defense was in Phantom Hourglass. In Skyward Sword, the ultimate form of defense is the Hylian Shield since it can't break.
