My wife is really excited for this one too. Luckily for me, though, she likes to see someone else play through the game first so that she doesn't get stuck and frustrated. So I get to play through it as soon as it's out without having to fight for TV time. :D

From Penny Arcade

I can tell you one of my favorite things about The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword without spoiling the game one whit, which is nice. Are you ready?

Playing the game, you start to wonder how long they’ve been prototyping some of these motions. Did they have these interactions modelled already, but lacked a controller of the necessary resolution? Even individual enemies become tiny puzzles to be sussed out, creating that squirt of “I AM CLEVER” brain juice that invariably leads to a bumping of fists.

Here’s the thing I was talking about before, the cool thing. So, Link doesn’t have a default arm position when he’s holding his sword: there isn’t one in his animation. He is holding the sword whatever way you are holding the Wiimote, which you might not realize at first. What this meant was that, walking through a dark cave, Gabriel was holding his sword out in front of him - just as a scared young man might do, but he was doing it because the controller was being held out in front, at the ready! Later, it’s a tool of expression: we like to hold the sword behind us at an angle, to give it that yojimbo flair. You will decide how you like yours, also; I thought you might like to know.

That Main Menu Theme just upgraded the game from "I'll play it one day on a friend's Wii" to "Holy hell, I really really wish I had a Wii."

I haven't been enchanted by the other songs that have been played in the trailers, but that theme really caught my attention. Here's hoping the rest of the soundtrack keeps up the level of quality.

So played the leaked demo. P cool. Though I'm glad I did the bird flying now and had a chance to get the hang of it; at first it was kind of frustrating and stupid, so I'm glad that that wasn't my very first impression of the game when I actually got it.

My fears were confirmed about the lack of use of the sensor bar though. I kept having to hit the recenter button about every 5 minutes, if not more than that. I hope that was just for the demo since there's a lot of interference at E3, and that in the final version it uses the sensor bar at least to have some idea where the tv is.

Is the demo just telling you to recalibrate it, or is it forcing you too? Cause Sports Resort did the same thing, but you'd be fine still controlling it

Dunno what to say Ethan, I'm sure the full release will be great!

OK.......IGN review is out, it got a 10, which its been getting from most other places. Seems like this is a true, real evolution of the series in all aspects. What gets me is that its being called the best storytelling Nintendo's ever done....very very excited. I was going to wait for Christmas, like I did with OOT and TP but....god damn this looks too good to wait for

A real great video review from IGN (I know it's IGN but there's a handful of editor's I trust there, Rich George being one of them). He's calling it the best Zelda of all time... which is saying a lot because, at least in my opinion, Ocarina of Time is the best game of all time, so if Skyward Sword is better than Ocarina then... yeah! But ignoring the "best Zelda of all time" it really looks like Nintendo has done something special here with the motion controls.

It is a little peculiar that the 1UP reviewer gave the game a B+ (8.5?) and stated at the beginning of his article that it is not the best Zelda of all time. It's all subjective of course but it's pretty clear this is going to be a big debate for years to come.

Joystiq gave it a 4.5/5. Said that lying within it is the best Zelda game of all time, but that at some parts it's covered up by needless filler. Said even without the filler it would have been 25-30 hours, and the brilliance still has plenty of time to shine through. That was the only negative comment they had about the entire game.

Looks like review embargoes lifted today. All agree that the controls work well, though some complain of frequent recalibration to keep them in top form. All like the art style, though some complain that the game looks dated regardless. All like the overworld density, though some don't care for some of the fetch questing you need to do as you explore said overworld. All like the music, but some don't much care for the musical instrument Link plays this time around.

What's important I think is not that people have complaints. No game is all things to all people. What is significant is that complaints are generally not consistent across the board. That speaks well of the game's quality.

You know, in case you were afraid this wouldn't be a quality product.

I think the only genuine problem among those is the recalibration since all the others are pretty much subjective. e.g. my favourite part of the Zelda games is the fetch quests, so if that is the worst complaint I am a very happy bunny :D

Damnit, I was hoping they'd fixed that for the final version. WTF were they thinking not using the sensor bar AT ALL?

I can't speak for the reviewers, but all I was having to do was push down on the d-pad in order to re-center the pointer, because the Wii Motion+ lost track of which direction the TV was. Using the sensor bar would have fixed that.
