FMW
The soundtrack CD is very high quality, but not too long. I'll take a quality/quantity trade any day though, so I'm cool with this I guess. Just like everyone else there are a few tunes I would have included in place of a few that did make the cut, but that ultimately boils down to personal preference. Everything in here is good, and I guess Nintendo's favorites aren't exactly the same as mine. Fair enough. If I had my way, Mt. Crenel and Cloud Tops from Minish Cap would have made it into the track list. I feel like those two would have converted to orchestration incredibly well. The first track is indeed the best, it's pretty surreal.
TCP
If I had my way, Mt. Crenel and Cloud Tops from Minish Cap would have made it into the track list. I feel like those two would have converted to orchestration incredibly well. I can't even remember what those songs sound like... Nintendo needs to hurry up and release Minish Cap on VC (along with the hundreds of other GBA greats)... especially since Skyward Sword takes a few cues from Minish Cap. I got through the first dungeon. I've read a few places that the first dungeon is the worst, which hey, that's good because it wasn't half bad, just your typical Zelda dungeon (minus block puzzles, thank god). The combat in this game is some of the best I've ever seen. Even the easier enemies take some planning to defeat.
FMW
I'm in the same place as you are, CP. That first boss was enthralling in the way first boss battles very rarely are. As for the Minish Cap music you no longer remember, we can fix that! The Mt. Crenel music is my personal favorite "exploration" piece. It's the track that, to me, best communicates adversity and seeing what's over that next horizon. That track is here: As for cloud tops, it's more of an anthem type thing. It's "hero music". I realize that the Zelda franchise is stuffed to the brim with hero music, but this one is one of my favorites!
「Advent Chaos」
Welp, I just caught up with you guys, it was a fun battle, I had more trouble on the first part for some reason though. Actually, I died 2 times! Haha I suck. Just got out of there, broke a chandelier and delivered some soup, gonna take a break and continue on <:
FMW
Lol, that'll teach you to telegraph your moves AC. I flipped out the first time he disarmed me. Totally. not. okay.
「Advent Chaos」
I will now associate you with that FABULOUS evil man. You must rid yourself of that pink dark knight and put said evil man as an avatar. Haha really? I was all like "Whoa that's pretty coo- BWOAH SHIT HE'S COMING AFTER ME!". TCP
Ok! Some spoilers/predictions from up to the end of the 2nd dungeon. So at the beginning of the first dungeon Lord Ghirahim says something along the lines that Zelda is a princess (calls her "Her Majesty"? I think?). The second time we see him, he talks about "his master". I'm starting to think he might be from the future and is a servant of Ganondorf. Or the entire thing about this being a prequel to Ocarina is bullshit, since there was a shape at the beginning of the game (when they explain the history) that looks a hell of a lot like Ganon. Also: who wants to bet that the "woman in black" is Impa? Looks like her. Personally I prefer the fat Impa from the Oracle games. CorgiShinobi
I stopped right before putting on the iconic green tunic, so now I won't be playing until Monday. Better than waiting till Christmas.
TheMightyEthan
I figured out what the problem was with the aiming: it's not that the Motion Plus was losing track of the TV, it's that every time you go into an aiming item (like dowsing or the slingshot or whatever) it assumes that when you first entered that mode you were pointing the Wiimote directly at the center of the screen. Now that I know that and can make sure I actually AM pointing it at the middle of the screen when I enter those modes it's not nearly such a problem. I still think it's stupid and that they should have used the sensor bar for reference, but at least now it's not face-punchingly frustrating. TheMightyEthan
Also the Temple of Time was flipping awesome. Boss was cool, but too easy though.
FMW
I agree. Boss was cool, but too easy. I have a hunch I'll be seeing him again though... and I have a hunch he'll be more difficult when next we meet. As for the aiming thing, there's a reason they didn't just go for more traditional pointer tech where they base the orientation off of the TV screen. There's an item later (I'm not saying what!) that you aim without pointing the remote at the screen.
CorgiShinobi
Actually, while it's a bit odd using solely MotionPlus, I do like how you can technically play with the controller without concern of it having always pointing at the television. Of course, once you get into sword fighting I guess being a couch potato doesn't last.
TheMightyEthan
No no, I don't mean they should have gone with the traditional pointer tech, I just wish they had used the sensor bar to dynamically keep track of where the TV is without me having to hit the down button to recenter it. Like when you first boot the game and it says "point the Wii Remote at the center of the screen and press A" so it knows where the center of the screen is; it's using the sensor bar for that. I wish they'd just done that continuously, on the fly, without user input. I don't want them to have used the traditional pointer, I just want them to have used Motion Plus with the sensor bar as a reference. Waldorf and Statler
Just got past The Second Temple. First time I was forced to go back to the sky temple and buy some potions. I like that they brought fairies back, I just wish they appeared more often as I have like 2 empty bottles with me at all times so now I know I should only keep 1 bottle empty.
TheMightyEthan
When were fairies ever gone?
Waldorf and Statler
Maybe they weren't gone. I just don't remember finding any in the DS games or Twilight Princess.
TheMightyEthan
Oh, I haven't played the DS games. In Twilight princess though there are a couple in jars an things, but if you do the Cave of Ordeals every 10th floor you get to basically turns one of the Spirit Springs into a fairy fountain. From what I read though there simply aren't any fairy fountains in Skyward Sword at all.
TCP
I am really enjoying upgrading my equipment, I hope this sticks around and is maybe even expanded upon in future Zelda games, as it really suits the world. I can see a lot of potential in upgrading swords as well. Some very minor non-plot related spoilers here: I just made it to the fourth temple, but I was surprised I had to return to the first temple again. In all the Zelda games I've played (which is most of them) I can't think of ever having to do that. I had heard we had to return to the same areas again, but I was figuring it was trips back to Faron Woods, etc not having to go back to a dungeon, find a small keys, and fight some mini-bosses. I don't really mind that though, these areas are so well designed and so interesting to look at, I don't mind coming back. Some other thoughts: I think this has been mentioned before, but when the game was in development, like most of you, I thought the sky would be akin to the sea in Wind Waker, but it's really just Hyrule Field that can't be walked across. Or even more similarly, a larger Termina Field, with Skyloft serving as Clock Town. Once you think of it like that, I get more of the 'Ocarina' vibe out of it, which isn't a bad thing. From what I read though there simply aren't any fairy fountains in Skyward Sword at all. I'd be interested in hearing why certain series mainstays were kept and others weren't. Waldorf and Statler
I finally have two bottled fairies and will do the impossible to keep it that way by keeping the third bottle with potions. Also I have not upgraded any item yet. Once I get a dusk relic, I'll turn my sacred shield into its second iteration. Though I REALLY wanna get the Hylian Shield, but apparently you can only get it after beating all the temples/dungeons.
TheMightyEthan
I really like upgrading equipment too. I do NOT like the limited inventory space for "items" though. I have bought all the pouch upgrades, so I have the full 8 slots, and I still don't like having to choose whether to use my upgrade bomb bags or not due to limited space. Also, why the fuck does my shield take up a slot in my pouch when it's equipped? It's not in my pouch, it's on my fucking back! Bring back hammerspace goddamnit!
Waldorf and Statler
Yeah. There are some really stupid design choices, like the whole shield taking space thing. Have you guys been using your shield much? I find that with the gauge in the shields, I don't like using them because I fear they'll break and later on I'll really need them. Every combat encounter revolves around me dodging and attacking. Only time I use my shield is when enemies shoot projectiles.
FMW
I use my shield a lot in melee combat. I worry that I use it too much, because perhaps I am depending on it too much. I should be mastering the motion controls more. So far every non-boss monster has been easy to defeat with a well timed shield bash. But I guess that "easy way out" is balanced out by the risk of having my shield break and having to do without. That happened to me near the end of the second temple actually, but I survived okay because the boss didn't require much shield work. I guess it's a risk I can live with
TheMightyEthan
I'm like WAS, I only use it for projectiles b/c I'm terrified of breaking it (even though I have the self-repairing shield and have fully upgraded it).
TCP
I also don't use my shield much, but now that I have the Goddess Shield, which heals itself, I'll take one or two hits with it. It's too bad, I understand what they were trying to do with the durability of the shield, this way it gives you something to upgrade besides just size, but maybe they're just too easy to break? I beat the fourth dungeon boss last night. Now that was a battle.
Waldorf and Statler
yeah. I feel that making the shield break was a nice touch, but they didn't foresee people not using it at all in fear. I used the shield in every other Zelda game, but this one has me scared to death. I liked the idea of having to change shields throughout the game to combat different enemy types, but maybe remove the whole bar thing. I fear that the only time I'll be comfortable with using the shield regularly is after I get the Hylian Shield.
