Thursday Next
Nintendo has trademarked Nintendo Network, which would be unnecessary if they were just using a modified steam. There's even been rumours about PS4 being the steambox, but no this is either something separate or something that most likely would go with gaikai or onlive. Trademarking "Nintendo Network" is only unnecessary because there is an existing Nintendo trademark. If Nintendo are going to re-brand their Nintendo wrapped Steam client (assuming that's what they have), then it would make sense to trademark whatever name they chose. MasterDex
It would seem to me that if Valve were working with Nintendo on a network service that it's in a consultancy role. Considering that Valve is still a private company, I think if Nintendo were going to get any help in creating a network service, it'd be them. WTF
Well considering they've actually gone about to say certain features of the NN I believe it could mostly be like what Dex said. It's a rebranding and new trademark technically as they're scrapping a lot of what exists today including the wii points.
deanb
Niiicccceee. Sort of steam-punk Gravity Gun/ASHPD hybrid

deanb
http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/03/19/valve-on-bringing-the-pc-to-e3/ Valve discussing potential E3 plans. It's an odd one. On one hand as a PC gamer I'd like to have a sort of main event to look forward to. But on the other hand it does tend to mean you end up with like 60% of a years total output of announcements clumped up in the space of a week and it's pretty tiring and disorientating

Faiblesse Des Sens
It's a great read. Valve is one hell of a company.

SomTervo
Stunning read, that developer guy's article. Actually pretty inspiring. I've got a couple of game-developey contacts, and it makes me want to contact them to get a strong writing CV to apply for jobs like this. I find Valve's whole approach just... I need a good word for this one... Sublime.
deanb
It was in someone's status. The status posts that go after about a day or so. Stunning read, that developer guy's article. Actually pretty inspiring. I've got a couple of game-developey contacts, and it makes me want to contact them to get a strong writing CV to apply for jobs like this. I find Valve's whole approach just... I need a good word for this one... Sublime. Seems pretty nifty, though they do point out at the end that their way of doing things isn't for everyone. I'm unsure if I'd be able to work with that kind of flat system, not overly strong in self-directed work, then again if there's something I enjoy doing and that company has projects that utilise that I'd settle in with that pretty quickly, it's only an issue if there's nothing to do that I truly enjoy. I wonder what you have to do to be fired from Valve.
Vargras
A Valve representative apparently confirmed to Game Informer that the employee handbook posted online is indeed real. You know, in case anyone cares about that.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Considering it reflects that dudes letter perfectly and has company in-jokes and matches up with everything else anyone has ever said about Valve I don't know why people doubted it. It's far too polished and expansive to be fake, really.
deanb
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=valve_linux_dampfnudeln&num=1 So Steam/Source in the works for Linux. No doubt as n when it hits it'll be big news n all but I can't see it being as big a thing as hitting OSX. In my experience Linux tends to be installed on lower power PCs/non-gaming locations. Support tends to sorta suck too as far as things like GPU drivers go(which are pretty important for gaming). I like Linux, nifty OS, but I don't tend think of Linux when I think "OSes I'd play games on".
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, when I think of Linux I think of "OSes I'd put on an htpc"
Johnny
I'm glad it's coming to linux because that means I can use steam as an IM on linux
Luftwaffles
If I remember right, doesn't Linux have awful OpenGL support? Like, even worse than Mac? I dunno, I still just don't think of Linux as a gaming box, like many here, it appears.
Faiblesse Des Sens
What about indie titles? Generally lower requirements.
deanb
http://www.blappeture.com/ I don't know if it should go in the Portal or the Half-Life thread. Either way I don't think this one is a fake.
Luftwaffles
Either way I don't think this one is a fake. Why? It doesn't seem a whole lot more different than anything we've seen before.

As Dean said on Twitter, it seems unlikely someone would hire JK Simmons just for a hoax. Just went and re-listened to it. Last time I went to the page it was just a "Hi, I'm Gabe Newell" soundfile, which is why I was skeptical. But yeah, this is... strange. Maritan
the audio clip is actually an Easter egg found in the new "Perpetual Testing Initiative" DLC for Portal 2, and the rest of it could have been put together by anyone. Case solved.
