Yeah, but that's a PITA, and the point is that I shouldn't have to. And it's not so much the environmental issue for me as the fact that something like 10% of 1st-world residential power use is from devices in "standby", and that means that 10% of my electric bill is shit using power when it shouldn't be.

Just to add here as I've done in status posts: Don't take the RAM to heart as devkits have higher RAM than the main console.

I'm still wary on the whole X86 thing.

What do/did the PS3 devkits have? What I'm finding with my quick Google search is that it can be pretty similar or even below what the actual system have.

I'm also going to be wary/take the leak with a grain of salt. The RAM amount seems too good to be true. It would be sweet if it does go all the way to 16 GB. I'm totally fine with a console trying to last a decade but it will have to have the specs to make it work. The consoles right now are just keeping up and they use every ounce of juice it has in order to keep up. With 8GB or 16GB of RAM, I wonder how far can they take it. I think I can even settle with 4GB/6GB.

Good point, Tenshi. I think the Dreamcast, but also more recently, the PSP, are examples of how cheap development leads to diverse and creative games. (Yeah, PSP is full of ports, but especially if you import, there are lots of quirky games that are rarer on more costly systems. At least indie projects have helped ease this though...)

I think, of everything Nintendo has done in the past years, the GamePad is the one great idea Nintendo has had. I wouldn't be opposed to Sony using the similar device, as they'll be able to do it better... multitouch, higher resolution, etc. There's also the possibilities of using the Vita instead.

It wouldn't be a surprise, they've given it a shot with both PSP and more so with Vita so I guess it's an inevitable path. Hopefully like the Wii U there will be the option for DS3 though. the Gamepad in it's current incarnation hardly seems the optimal gaming peripheral. Of course as many have noted, this wouldn't be the first time Sony were set to abandon Dualshock only to come right back to the old faithful.

I would LOVE it if the tablet design became standard. Being able to play while someone else uses the TV (or even while you yourself have something on the TV) is so fantastic, you don't even realize how great it is until you can do it.

Of course obviously they can't abandon the classic controller altogether, otherwise couch multiplayer would be practically impossible and I don't see them doing that.

I doubt it's actually the new console. Just my opinion and all, but I don't see Sony making an announcement to announce such a significant step in the brand. Considering that they did something like live action segments for one video game, it might be about some new features coming to the PlayStation platform.

Then again I could be wrong and Sony wants to dazzle us so at each convention attendees are flocking to their press conference with baited breath on the new system.

WSJ reports mention taking screenshots and videos will be one function of the new touchpad, and they say touchpad, not a screen.

I think I've read here that PS3 can actually do those it's just that no one does it. SR3 had a video recording option on the PC version, i doubt the PS3 had it though.

Oh wait, touchpad with a share button probably means having a screen? I actually didn't read it from WSJ, only the article from the verge.
