Saturnine Tenshi
I think I'll give PS4 six months to a year to see what's going on. I'd rather have some games I genuinely want to play rather than games that I'm playing because that's all there is. That, and I'm not happy about the paid online. It may not be a big deal to people who use it often, but to those of us who don't, it's ($49.99/yr) no insignificant fee—more so when you're used to playing for free on PC and PS3.The thing about the 360 was that it might have seemed cheap, what with it's accessories sold separately (those that were eventually required for many common video game scenarios). And Live Gold was an example of one of those hidden fees.People often speak highly of PS+ because you get free games and discounts, but it's really only a deal in certain scenarios. And often, not one at all due to the high costs of digital games on PSN. Still, those deals are chiefly for people who buy a lot of games on PSN, because they're already spending money. But as far as digital pricing and sales go, PSN and PS+ are downright lousy. The free games are nice, yes, but I don't see myself paying money for games that I may or may not like (and that don't really belong to my account when I download them for free). Especially when I can get games I do want for the same price as signing up for the service. So yeah, additional fees. It turns a $400 console into a $450 console (or higher). So that's something I'm going to have to mull over. I can see the value in PS+ for others, but after giving it some thought, I can't say the same for myself. CorgiShinobi
I think it would benefit the PS4 if Sony included a month (or two) free trial. It would allow anyone unsure a chance to experience the service (free games, discounts, trials, etc.) for no cost and potentially gain more PS+ subscribers. I personally don't take full advantage of the service, but I think there are great discounts for PSN titles. The free games will be dependent on taste, but for me it's like a free rental service. I didn't like how I couldn't technically own the game until I did put money on it, but then again I've been able to experience a few more games I normally wouldn't have put any money on in the first place. I'm still not someone who's entirely comfortable with retail PS3 games as digital purchases, but there is an allure to others for something like AC3 for $19.59 and Tomb Raider for $20.24. EDIT: Destructoid article with Sony's explanation for making multiplayer a PS+ feature. TL;DR: All those new PS4 features, coupled with a goal of keeping a $399 retail launch price, makes multiplayer part of PS+. EDIT2: Included PS4 headset is definitely SUPER cheap. Like, that would cost you $5 at retail. Edited June 13, 2013 by Atomsk88
Mister Jack
It should be compatible with most other headsets, right?
CorgiShinobi
Yeah, not only does the "headset" look like your standard earbud/mic combo, the article alludes to how a standard jack on other headsets should work too. Sony is usually in the market of making branded wireless headsets, so I can't see them trying to pull another proprietary device.
Mister Jack
I already own a PC headset so hopefully I can use that.
Thursday Next
Stupid question, but that headset connects to the controller right?
TheMightyEthan
Looks like it. That's how the 360 does it, and I can't imagine Sony making you plug it directly into the console. I have a question about Plus: If you let your subscription lapse I know you lose access to the free games, but if you then re-up to you regain access to previously downloaded free games? Or do you basically start over and only have access to the ones that are free from then on out?
Thursday Next
Found some more images on Google+. Yeah it plugs into the controller. As to PS Plus, if you lapse and rejoin you have access to all the content you activated before lapsing. So if you activate Uncharted 3, lapse, Uncharted 4 is available for a month and then you rejoin when Uncharted 5 is available you will have access to 3 and can download 5, but you don't get 4. Makes sense?
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, that's how I thought it worked, but I wasn't sure. Thanks.

Vecha
So Kotaku just wrote an article about Sony not being clear. And by not being clear, it means they're reading WAY too much between the lines. http://kotaku.com/sony-still-a-little-vague-about-third-party-used-games-513032471 Totilo even added an update where he justified his sentiment, but he basically reiterated what he said before. He really needs to work on his reading comprehension.

WTF
Yeah a little lttp due to being busy but F2P that's first party definitely won't require plus, pretty certain the others wouldn't as well since they want to get more people to play and company policies are aiming for that. Of course then again some might not care like World of Tanks is behind a paywall on the 360. Other than that there is no infrastructure on the PS4 to pay for online passes so it's up to publisher discretion. Going by EA trying to repair their rep by not charging for online and Sony themselves not doing online passes. I think most pubs would try to avoid it - since brand rep does improve sales. Then we're in a gen where we had 100k keys for ondisc content that wasn't even content patches that had an unlock. So there's that.
Mister Jack
Something i'm wondering about the F2P games on PS4...Are microtransactions paid for with your playstation wallet funds? Or does it count as a third party client and you have to go through some obtuse in-game marketplace and use a credit card in order to get your war bucks or whatever the fuck kind of fake-ass currency they use? Thursday Next
Good question. Sony seem to be quite open with their system, however, they might want to keep that stuff under lock and key since if the sale is through the PS wallet they can easily take a cut. If it goes through the pubs own channel then it's harder to track and they may not even get a cut of the microtransaction revenue.
TheMightyEthan
Of course then again some might not care like World of Tanks is behind a paywall on the 360. Is that the dev or MS though? I was under the impression that except for free trial weekends MS doesn't allow any kind of multiplayer for non-Gold.
Waldorf and Statler
I can guarantee F2P will be behind Xbox Live Gold for the Juan. For no other reason that Microsoft wants to put as much as they can behind a paywall. As to Sony and F2P, I'm gonna take a wild guess and say you'll have to pay via Sony. They want to make some revenue out of these F2P games as well for allowing it on their console, so putting transactions via the PS system is a safe bet.
deanb
Easier on both the publisher n Sony if it's done through Sony anyway as it's in £5 minimum spends to put cash on your PSN Wallet anyway, so lower card charges. People would also be less likely to use your game if they need to input CC infor for each new MMO/F2P title they grab.
