TheMightyEthan
It's the same as the latest redesign for the PS3. The PS3 use to have a standard PC power cord, but Sony switched over to the two-prong cord (whatever it may be called) for the "Super Slim." Huh, I assumed that was the cord the PS3 had always had, since it was the same one as my PS2, Vita, and old Sony boombox thing.
Eleven
They switched over starting from the Slim. Only fat ones use PC power cords.
Saturnine Tenshi
Which is really convenient btw (PC power cords).
CorgiShinobi
Ah, I never owned the first Slim, and considering the change in hardware, it would make sense that the power supply changed back then too.
Mal
Which is really convenient btw (PC power cords). I'd been know to hijack my brothers' PS3 power cord for my PC when I visit my folks. One less thing to unplug for me and pull out from behind my desk. Hell, I hijack the TV too so I don't need to bring my monitor. So add in two less cables. Don't forget the speakers! Lastly add in two more cables... Awesome sauce.
Thursday Next
Re: Manuals as Dean says, it's for warranty, eula, ToS, etc. If you don't have a PC, and you plug in your PS4 and it goes *bang* a USB stick is not going to help you. A paper manual will. Also, you have to be able to read the legal gubbins before activation for it to even have a chance of being enforceable. Mr. GOH!
If you don't have a PC or laptop but you have a console, you should just GTFO now because this world of electronics ain't for you. Smart console manufacturers would work it so that the user has to affirmatively state that s/he read all the legal stuff first thing when setting uo the console. In fact, I'm pretty certain the PS3 and 360 work that way. Turn it on for the first and a window pops up saying "By selecting OK below, you acknowledge you have read and understand documents A through Z and that you release all claims current, future, in all jurisdictions in the universe, yadda, yadda, yadda." Fuck, just put all that stuff in a series of windows the user has to click through before you can play games. Then it doesn't matter if the user has a physical manual or an inaccessible USB manual; his shit just got owned for legal purposes. At least in the US. Not reading the legal stuff is no defense for enforcement. Edited June 28, 2013 by Mr. GOH!
Thursday Next
Yes! That's the perfect solution! Only people with PC's and Laptops should have consumer rights. Unless of course, you plug in the console, turn it on and it goes *bang*, or doesn't even boot, before Sony are able to take possession of your faecal matter for any purposes legal or otherwise. Then you have to rely on the paper manual.
TheMightyEthan
Then it doesn't matter if the user has a physical manual or an inaccessible USB manual; his shit just got owned for legal purposes. At least in the US. Not reading the legal stuff is no defense for enforcement. To a degree, but only insofar as the terms might reasonably be expected to be included in the EULA to begin with. They can't put in completely insane stuff, like "by using this Software you hereby agree to pay a tithe of 10% of your personal, pre-tax income to Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc, now and forever, until death do us part, amen." and then try to enforce that. Or, they could try, but it ain't gonna happen.
Thursday Next
Ethan can confirm this for US, but in the UK not reading stuff is only excluded as a defence if you have had a chance to read it. For example, if you get the terms of sale on the back of a receipt after you have made a purchase, then, in the UK at least, those terms would be totally unenforceable. Similarly, if the terms are not accessible without having to go out and purchase (or already own) extra, unrelated equipment, like a PC, then they won't be enforceable.
TheMightyEthan
That's how it's supposed to be in the US, but in recent years it seems to have fallen apart, at least as regards software licensing. I remember reading a decision in law school where the court said EULAs on software are enforceable, even if you don't see it until the install process, because if you don't like the terms you can just return it to the store. Really? Have you ever tried returning opened software to the store before, Your Honor? How did that work out for you?
TheMightyEthan
The light bar on the DS4 can't be turned off. Part of me thinks that's lame and the light could easily get irritating in some situations, but another part thinks that the PS4 is sitting pretty if this is what people have found to complain about.
TheFlyingGerbil
I don't think it will bother me personally, and I doubt it will make that much difference to battery life, but it seems strange that you can't turn it off when the console doesn't even come with an eye. Hot Heart
Will it project onto the floor and make my cat go all crazy around my feet?! This is potentially dangerous. I NEED ANSWERS.

Doesn't the light bar indicate what player you are instead of a tiny red LED?
madbassman39
@FDS I believe that is correct. Also, I believe that the light bar is an LED its self using up the same amount of battery as the little red one on the PS3. I also want to point out that I wont be looking directly at the light bar itself so I probably wont notice. As for the light reflecting off the TV screen, I cant imagine it being any worse than the PS Move ball, which I never found to be any kind of problem. TheMightyEthan
@FDS: That was one of the suggested uses. Even if it's an LED like the tiny light it would still need to use more power. More light = more power (for the same type of light technology), it's just physics.
Hot Heart
More light = more power (for the same type of light technology), it's just physics. Oh, yeah? Well...

It could be a more efficient bulb and produce more light and less heat.
TheMightyEthan
That's why I said "for the same type of light technology". Of course we can argue what the "same type" of technology is, but AFAIK an LED is an LED, and they're all more or less the same efficiency (for the same color). I could be wrong about that though. deanb
But if it's the same light how would it be using more power? Same light = same power.
Thursday Next
Well, presumably this uses three (RGB) or more leds to make the different colours. So that's at least three times the power of a single LED. Of course, three times bollocks all, is still bollocks all.
deanb
Can have colour changing LEDs and they'd only be one at once if it was three. But yeah, even if it was three, and all three were at once it's sod all. The bluetooth connection and rumble features are going to be using vastly more. TheMightyEthan
I'm assuming that there is more total light being output by that bigass bar than by the tiny little indicator. Therefore more power.
Thursday Next
Meh, I doubt it will be a significant factor. As you say, if this is all people have to moan about...
