deanb
I'm not too thrilled about it not supporting flash drives either. I would transfer videos from the pc to the ps3 so I could watch it on a bigger screen.Where you reading it won't support flash drives? The FAQ clearly states: Will I be able to install system software update 1.50 via a USB drive? Yes, you will be able to download the firmware to your PC and transfer it to PS4 using a USB memory stick. However, to use the USB method the first time you take PS4 out of the box and before installing system software update 1.50, you’ll need to enable safe mode. When PS4 is powered off, press and hold the Power Button for seven seconds to enter safe mode. Note: Users should only update using official files downloaded from PlayStation.com. And nothing anywhere else counter to that saying that USB drives don't work. The only thing they have said is no to storing games and saves on external drives as a expansion method. One thing of note is so far I've seen folks complain about the lack of CD playback, but nothing about the lack of analog video output.Who still has a TV without HDMI (and can also afford a PS4)? Hence the whole "who is still playing audio CDs in this day n age". I'd imagine if you're someone that still does, you're going to use your hi-fi and not your recently purchased video games console and shiny HDTV to so. Most people I know don't have a hi-fi system separate from their surround sound system, so the only way to play audio CDs over the good sound system is with some kind of device connected to the same receiver the TV uses (like a game console). Anyway, like I said I don't think the lack of CD or mp3 playback is actually a problem, it just seems weird. Lack of analog outputs does not seem weird. Joystiq is terrible and things like that are why. Joystiq just said Players will need to carefully manage installs if they hope to maintain a large game library, however, as the console does not support external storage via USB hard drives or memory sticks. Which to me just reads the same as the FAQ, which is "you can't put games or saves on external storage." Not that you can't use memory sticks at all. Mister Jack
I got myself access to a bluetooth pc and I was able to connect the DS4 to it. I had some trouble at first, and I'm guessing it's because that while the controller is in discovery mode, it gets impatient if it doesn't connect after a few seconds and shuts off. Since the PC takes a few seconds to install the drivers and such, it wasn't finished before the controller turned off. I got around this by tapping the DS4 button while it was in discovery mode to keep it turned on. I also tried holding it down. To be honest, I'm not sure which method worked in the end but I know that one of them did because I now have the controller registered to the pc. Aside from that one hiccup, I didn't have to do anything out of the ordinary or download any special programs to make it work. Faiblesse Des Sens
Hmmm I wonder if my dongle is 2.0 or 2.1. Either way a new dongle will be super cheap.
Thursday Next
With regard to music I wonder if it will be possible to navigate to https://play.google.com/music/listen#/now and play my uploaded music that way?
deanb
Assuming they're running a HTML5 compliant browser, and I can't see why not, it should be possible.
Thursday Next
Yeah, PlayStation browsers are normally shit hot. lol
deanb
A large part of the reason why the PS3 browser sucked (apart from them just using the PSP browser) is down to it having just 256MB tops to play with. Should hopefully be a fair bit smoother this time around given it now has much more RAM (and also HTML5 is more of a standard than it was 7-8 years ago)
madbassman39
So the PS4 not playing MP3s is a bit odd to me. Although I never used my PS3 or PS2 to listen to music because I've used other players. I did/do have a Zune/Xbox Music sub, which I am on the verge of walking away from, which means my music couldn't be played on the PS3 anyways. Vecha
Can you run the browser in the background of game...really will miss playing my own music in certain games.
Faiblesse Des Sens
It would also need to allow the music to be played while it's not focused.
TheMightyEthan
Yeah, I really doubt you can do that.
Vecha
How soon after November do you think people could walk into a store and get a ps4? Jan? Feb?
Faiblesse Des Sens
Probably about 15 days after the start of November.
TheMightyEthan
You don't think they'll all be sold out? *Edit* - I'd guess you'd have a decent chance of finding one in a store in December, and pretty much be guaranteed by January. Vecha
Well..I got over 400 saved...so as soon as I see one I may snatch one. Wonder if I should wait till sometime next year...see if there was any ps4 ylod/rrod issues...>.>(I know, I know weren't as many issues on the ps1/2/3 as the xbox, but still a worry). Vecha
Probably about 15 days after the start of November. Gotta love your Deadpan. Let me reword...How soon after the launch could a scumbag who didn't bother to preorder get a ps4 at 400 bucks plus tax.
CorgiShinobi
My estimate? If the PS4 is a huge success: February = Common, January = Uncommon, December = Good Luck If it does alright, then January.
Chronixal
Real pie in the sky guess, but I see the PS4 having a very successful launch and will really take off for the wide audience once word of mouth gets around about the differences in quality. Either way might be tough to get one in the near future.
FredEffinChopin
While I do occasionally throw on some music off of the PS3 HDD (mainly when I already have it on, and am getting ready to leave or something), I'm not so much annoyed that I can't use the PS4 to play music that way. The real bummer for me is that it seems like that means you won't be able to use your own tracks for BGM in games that allow it. While the number of those games is relatively small on the PS3, I really enjoyed it when it was available. Especially in games like Skate, in which I'd be listening to the same small playlist for the countless hours I poured into it, or Super Stardust HDD. I loved its incorporation in things like MLB The Show, where you get to create custom at-bat music and such, complete with an editor to select the portion of the song you want. I can also say goodbye to any rhythm based games that let you use custom music. While I can't name any off the top of my head, I'm pretty sure I've played such a game on the PS3. Either way, it seems I definitely won't on PS4. So yeah, I'm let down about the music thing. *Edit* In case anyone is curious which games even let you use your own music: Edited November 4, 2013 by FredEffinChopin
