TheMightyEthan
I meant 920 isn't orders of magnitude larger than 500.
Mr. GOH!
I suppose it also depends on how much of a hassle it will be to uninstall and reinstall game data. Is it easy to retain saves when uninstalling game data on the PS4?
Mister Jack
Saves and game installs are handled separately, so one shouldn't affect the other. PS+ also stores cloud saves just in case.
Hot Heart
I imagine that, within a year or two, the 500GB HDD will start to feel like the old 20GB 360 HDD in terms of how many games can be installed simultaneously. I dunno about that, all my installed PC games put together is only about 920 GB. Bigger, obviously, but not like orders of magnitude bigger. You'll have to be conscious of how much space you're using, but I don't see it being a huge issue in the near future. *Edit * - Although game sizes will likely increase now that all consoles are on BD-derived formats. Given what I've seen of game install sizes for PS4 and Xbone, I'd say Mr. GOH is right.
TheMightyEthan
Holy crap, while looking for something else entirely I discovered that not only does the PS4 capture the last 15 minutes of gameplay, but it saves all your captures for as long as you have enough free space. So you can only get up to 15 minutes out of each session (unless you quit the game and go back), but you can get as many 15 minute sessions as you want. *Edit* - Depending on the clip 15 minutes of footage looks to be between 600 and 900 MB. The encoding's not the best, it's noticeably blurry on my monitor, but it's not terrible, and considering it's doing it on the fly in the background I'm fairly impressed. Mr. GOH!
So you fill up your HDD after a few dozen play sessions?
TheMightyEthan
You can delete them... Also, at less than 1GB per play session it'd take you a few hundred session to fill it up. *Edit - but yes, it would be nice if you could set a max size for it to fill and for it to start deleting older ones once you hit the cap. TCP
Another reason why upgrading to a large drive would be a good idea.
TheMightyEthan
I'm sure I'll upgrade the HDD eventually, but not before it becomes an issue. I figure the longer I wait the cheaper the storage will be and the more I can get.
Mister Jack
Plus that 2 TB drive isn't even out yet.
TheMightyEthan
So I was wrong, those 15 minute clips aren't created for every game session, just when you hit the share button. It's just most of the time when I do that I'm trying to create a screenshot, I didn't realize it was also archiving my last 15 minutes of play. *Edit* - Also, you can take screenshots while doing Vita remote play, but you can't record video or stream. My guess is it's because the video compression resources are tied up sending the stream to the Vita. Mister Jack
I'm hoping they patch in the option to upload video clips to youtube because Twitter and Facebook are for the birds. I love my ps4 but man there is a lot of shit that has to be patched in. You could make an AIDS quilt with this many patches.
Mr. GOH!
Vimeo or GTFO.
Faiblesse Des Sens
Vimeo doesn't allow content like that as far as I know. They only want quality content.
Mister Jack
http://www.hardcoreware.net/how-to-ps4-controller-windows/ Another way to use the DS4 with the pc without having to mess with x360ce for every game.
Faiblesse Des Sens
2 things I don't see answered: 1) Does it support bluetooth 2) Does it rumble
TheMightyEthan
I'm hoping they patch in the option to upload video clips to youtube because Twitter and Facebook are for the birds. You can't even upload video to Twitter, only screenshots. They haven't explicitly confirmed that it will be getting Youtube support, but they said to keep an eye on the blog for news about them adding more services to the sharing, and Youtube seems like the obvious one. And yeah, Vimeo doesn't allow uploads of gameplay. A few indie devs had run into problems with that actually when trying to upload demos of their games they're developing, but IIRC Vimeo has made an exception for videos of games you've made. TheMightyEthan
2 things I don't see answered: 1) Does it support bluetooth 2) Does it rumble Must have been updated, cause now it says To pair on Bluetooth, hold the Connect + Share button on the controller. You will be able to pair the device using your standard Bluetooth control Still doesn't say anything about rumble though.
TheMightyEthan
Turned on my PS4 this morning to check on something and there's a new update. Looks like it's just stability and minor usability fixes.
FredEffinChopin
I'm starting to feel like youtube is for the birds lately as well. I'm hoping that eventually they let you just save them to shiny MP4s that you can do whatever you want with.
TheMightyEthan
That would be ideal. That's how 360 handles it.
Mister Jack
YouTube has been awful lately but even so it will be a cold day in hell before I ever make a Facebook page. OR A GOOGLE PLUS ONE.
FredEffinChopin
Yeah, I hate to be such an entitled video game cunt, but I'm feeling like it's time to use this current smiling (and satisfyingly pandering) face of Sony to its maximum potential and add that to the wishlist of things to send in their direction. @Jack Unfortunately all of us youtube users have + accounts now. They're really going about this terribly. It's amazing how nearly overnight the shift in this company was. They went from listening to dictating in a heartbeat. I'm really annoyed about the dishonesty of the approach as well. None of this shit is being done to stop trolling, and if it is, it's the most counterproductive solution in history. Every time I saw an article that framed their changes as such made me want to find the author and spit in their cereal.
deanb
Unless there's some drastic shift in the next five years Youtube is going to be here to stay. Vimeo is the only other UGC video service even anywhere near in popularity and as already covered they hate video game videos. Youtube has all the traffic and all the content and reigns nigh supreme, it'd take a hell of a dark horse to topple it any time soon. @Fred: When the hell did Google ever listen? Especially in realms where they hold dominance such as in online video. Only place you'll get Google listening is where they face competition such as on Android or Google+, mostly everything else they own the market and they do as they please. FredEffinChopin
Not so much in terms of policy maybe, but policy hadn't really become an issue (for me) until now. As far as their software goes, they seem to have had their finger on the pulses of the people who used it. I know that throughout the course of my relationships with gmail and Chrome, there have been a few occasions on which I've had minor issues with their structure that were resolved fairly quickly, and beyond my satisfaction. I think more disappointing than that though, and what I may have incorrectly lumped in with their consumer relations, was that they used to seem to focus on user experiences, and trying brand new things that would let more people have more access to resources, where now they seem to be moving in a different direction. One that I think most people knew was coming, but that doesn't really soften it for me much.
